Pretty cool tutorial, despite all the comments from guys who cant do this. And it does look like a fun project. I live in Alaska, and I have a project upcoming to make some spruce paddles for my canoe. Theyll probably take me a while, off and on to complete. Have to cut the trees, slab them, dry them, trace out the shape, rough cut them, finish them off with chisels, gouges and sanding, etc. Can I buy a pair of paddles for next to nothing? Sure, but doing the project is half the fun.

Good work Don. Those work well for inside snap rings because when you squeeze the handle, the tips contract. To make a set for outside snap rings, start with a pair of batter terminal pliers - these open *or spread( when you squeeze the handles. Sure, you can make do with either but having both makes for a better option. As far as making them, personally I love to make specialized tools. Anyone with money or a credit card can buy most anything, but you dont have the satisfaction or sense of accomplishment of making them.

Very cool, Don! I bought a snap ring pliers set that can be adjusted for opening and closing ring gaps for both kinds and it came with different sizes of pin-hole tips for different size rings. I don't know if it could handle o-rings that big, but it's worked for everything I've needed so far. You're always so helpful with things like this. I've had applications for welding, but had to figure out other ways to deal with them. Maybe one day. Todd of Project Farm did a welder comparison review not long long ago and, for my needs, the $90 one would be good enough.

Nothing's wrong, for keeping the creative juices flowing. I know there will be a lot of comments on "I don't own most of those tools", Well, how do you think Dony got them ? Certainly not from playing video games. Get off your fat butt, create something that will generate some profits THEN, buy the appropriate tools. Built bird house/feeders. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish with a 4 1/2 in grinder and a simple welder . I had to rebuild the transmission on my Street Glide and according to the HD service manual if had to buy all the special tools to do it it would have cost me $700 US . Made every thing myself and worked out fine .

@@donyboy73yeah I do know you can buy cheap lineman pliers. And I did give credit for ingenuity. And I do know good snap ring pliers aren't cheap but, not everyone has a shop with, spot welders. Every kind of die grinders and cutting tools to be able to do all that the video showed. So basically, as cool as it is to say, " look what I can do", ya have to have hundreds of dollars worth of tools,to save 40 bucks. But it's still a cool video.

I’m glad I found this comment because I was wondering if this video was for real. Sorry, I have to agree with the mindset of “if you can afford a shop with that much equipment, you can probably afford some real snap ring pliers”. I guess I would feel differently about it if the job had been done with hand tools only. No welder, grinder, drill, etc.
@peterford9369
@peterford9369 Жыл бұрын
@@fyrcap962 I did check harbor freight and saw their cast snap ring 12 inch pliers for 31 bucks each. Inner and outer. I'm not knocking ingenuity. It's how man has moved beyond the stone age. But yeah, those of us that don't have a decent shop loaded with drill presses, welding equipment,etc, are gonna find it hard to take a pair of 5 inch,5 buck pliers and build a pair of snap ring pliers. But I don't want to take away from the ingenuity at all.
