Some of the dopest food I've ever gotten in my life, man Cebu blew my mind. It's incredible to see how diverse Filipino cuisine is and I feel super lucky to have experienced it on my 14 day trip in the Philippines. It's definitely a place that takes a special place in my heart, and I'll forever remember the great bites and people I've met along the way. I love you Philippines and see you soon :-) ❤️🇵🇭

I want to say thank you so much for this video. What could've been a "take some b-roll of street markets for views" became an homage to the culture. It is almost normal to see videos of tourists show obvious disgust when approaching filipino food let alone eating it. Instead, you came at each vendor with grace. You have my respect and thanks.

I was born in Cebu in 1976 before moving to Los Angeles in 88. The food scene was so much different when I was growing up. I think it was simpler and the ingredients were more authentic. The one thing that nobody can take away is our style of lechon because I believe we have the world's best lechon chefs. Thank you for loving my homeland and I appreciate your work♥👏

This is the best feature of Cebu I have ever seen. Ever. Not even Filipinos do it this good, this authentic, this well-researched. Shows real local knowledge. Shows heart, Dooby. To be honest, at first I literally skipped this video because in my mind I thought this is one of those classic foreigners video eating. 32:34 God damn, Doobie nailed it! That's what most clout-chasing PH food reviewers miss. The food here in PH might taste repetitive, lack spices, mostly fried, reliant on sauces. We get it. But the vibes, man. The bonding, the group atmosphere. That's what PH cuisine is all about. Communal food, beer-friendly, mix-and-match to your liking with things like rice and vinegar to balance it out. With excellent music in the background (tone-deaf Pinoys are rare). Oh, and to finish it all up, we have a top-tier dessert game, PH love them sweets!

i went to college in cebu and i'd have to say you went to more places in 72 hours than myself in 4 years lol. but seriously, i'm feeling a little homesick right now and your videos have really put a smile on my face. tina, i've always loved your content, but these philippine food crawls have been nothing short of excellent. thanks for putting a spotlight on filipino cuisine! to quote kris jenner, you're doing amazing sweetie!!! p.s. u have to try visiting dumaguete and bacolod some time! the philippines is home to delicious, complex, and interesting food, and though i'd say you've explored *so much* in the time that you were there, you've only just scratched the surface!! food in the province is such a different experience!

man, I miss my home, cebu. can't wait to get back there this golden week. 8:25 puto'g sikwati. puto = sweet sticky rice with ginger sikwati = hot cocoa those round things made from cocoa beans are called tablea. my grandma used to knead those by hand every night. puto'g sikwati is a traditional breakfast. best paired with the sweetest mangoes.

@@wh2ok I just got back here in Cebu and I would like to say, the mangoes right now are the sweetest! I hope it could stay that way when you get here in June. I would recommend you check the food presented in this video like Lechon and the local chorizo and eat it with puso shown in the video as well (it's very simillar to ketupat from Indonesia). And If you can, checkout torta from Argao and maybe bibinka near some churches early in the morning. That's as traditional as it gets I think lol. There is also a variant of puto that is purple It's less sticky (the rice grains feel more separated) but it's more fragrant. If you're looking for what locals usually eat there are many food bazaars in areas like IT Park where you can find food like siomai (local siumai) and ngohiong. There are also traditional food that can be eaten during christmas like binignit but I think some places make them anyway even when it isn't christmas, unfortunately I'm not a very good guide and I just go where my relatives take me so I can't name places really well, sorry for that.

"Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it's bad food." - Dooby, 2024 In Cebu, there are a lot of cheap places to eat and mid-range and expensive ones too. The thing about the place Tina went is IT IS THE PRIME SPOT of Cebu's market industry. So, the food they serve are cheap because the ingredients that are used came from direct suppliers, there's no middle man in between. The Taboan Market is also a public market, so the rent is cheap to zero. The cooks or sellers of the food are their own bosses and employees as well, so the products' stay w/in the price they wanted it to be. This just goes to show how locally-owned and small businesses are still able to provide GOOD FOOD but at a price that ANY FILIPINO can afford to buy. You gotta love Dooby for bringing this type of discussions and examples in a platform where creators typically follow the mainstream (or tourist-y) options. Gihigugma tika, Dooby! I'm Filipina and live in Mindanao, I just visited Cebu for a short travel to visit my brothers, nephews, and nieces who all live there. Would've loved to see you there because I also went and ate at all the places you've been!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm so happy you chose Cebu because that is my absolute favorite place to visit when I want to eat lowkey good food. There are a lot of places in the Phils that have different take on food & Filipino culture, but Cebu is the best place to start a Filipino food journey. At the Pungko, pungko, I believe they don’t serve beers because if they did, people would hang out and chill there forever just drinking. It’s to keep the flow going and have people just eat and leave. So I think that’s why they refrain from selling beers. Awesome content! I love how you really went really local and the markets. You’ve done a lot more than I have and I was born and raised in Cebu. I cannot stop laughing about the “Chicharon Bukake!” 😂

Totally agree on not going to hotels and resorts for food because the best of the best kind of food here are found in markets, streets and in small inexpensive eateries. 2:18 that was not pork skin.. those were LANDANG, a processed starch comming from a Trunk of a Boli Palm tree or Buri Palm tree. We use those in Coocking Binignit. it is a Visayan dessert soup and it is served Hot. it is like the Halo Halo of soups bec, its ingredients are Glutinous rice, Landang, Coconut milk, Banana, Taro, Purple yam, Sweet potato, Sago. and I don't know if you already tried it but its the sweetest soup you will ever have..

Thank you for taking the time to explore Cebu, Tina! I just have a few things to point out: - People in Cebu are called Cebuanos, not Cebuans - The white wrinkly thing you called chicharon is landang, not chicharon. I think it’s used in binignit/bilo-bilo which is a snack that is kinda like a sweet hotpot - Paypay is cebuano and tagalog for fan so pinaypay is quite literally fanned out banana. - Puto sikwate is usually considered as breakfast food in Cebu, not dessert. - Kinda wish you tried the chorizo with a little vinegar, just like how we locals like it. - Puso is encased in coconut leaves, not banana leaves. - The root crop you pointed in Taboan market is called gabi, i guess taro in common terms? Filipinos, correct me if I’m wrong here - The crab relleno is filled with crab meat and vegetables that I can’t identify but definitely not rice. - There’s a debate on which city makes the best lechon in Cebu (Talisay, Carcar, Liloan) but I guess wherever you go, you can never go wrong with Cebuano lechon. - Love that tuslob buwa didn’t scare you but if you want the most authentic tuslob buwa you can get, go to Pasil. It’s a barangay right beside Taboan. - I think I may be biased but I honestly think there’s not a bad restaurant in Cebu so it was not a surprise that the pochero place you went to was good, but if you’re taking recommendations, try Ekit’s Pocherohan next time. All in all, I love this video! You couldn’t have done a better job on showcasing Cebu to the world 💕

Cebuano language is not a "Dialect" it Originated in CEBU 6,000 years ago and it has it's very own written " Syntax, Grammar" called ( Kudlit Kabadlit ).

Chicharon bulaklak or ginabot in cebuano is actually pork intestine. The rice in cebu is called "puso" which is wrapped in palm leaves (not banana).

Tina, this made my heart so warm, it actually made me tear up. 🥲 I grew up in Cebu, and despite of leaving home to traverse wherever, nothing comes close to home. (We all hear this a lot, but i’m saying it with utmost sincerity.) You’ve poured so much thought, heart and soul into this that I think I just grew another heart with so much missing for home… and I’m actually swelling with so much pride, coz this is exactly what our culture, our food, our people deserve. 🥹 So daghan kaayong salamat (thank you so much) to you and your husband for doing this. 🤍 I do have a few notes though! In case you wanna revisit Cebu again and dive deeper into our local cuisine! (Also for anyone else lurking in the comments and are curious to try and visit!) I’ll try to do this in the order of how you featured the food on your vlog although I’m no longer mentioning the food which I think you really hit right on the spot for the best experience. * Puto and Sikwate - You were so sooo lucky to have experienced this in Taboan where it was freshly prepared before you. Not everyone gets to enjoy this experience. More than a dessert, this pair is actually a breakfast staple, and I especially love it when the sikwate is prepared thicker (richer) and a little bit more bitter, like melted dark chocolate. And this pair goes so well with mangoes too. I think a lot of Filipino restos offer this, but if you want something quick and really well made too, any branch of Tabléa Chocolate could serve you a good one (you can buy packs of tablea or any tablea-made desserts with you to bring home too.) * Buwad (!!!) - a.k.a. Dried Fish. I actually thought you’d try some dried fish since you were already in Taboan. A lot of the dried fish in Taboan comes from an island called Bantayan which is on another island (still in the jurisdiction of Cebu) but far north. You have to try the ultimate Filipino breakfast with the freshest danggit (a kind of dried fish), eggs and garlic rice. Another plus for a trip to Bantayan is its otherwordly beaches. (You can go to Kota in Bantayan to experience some fo the best in all of this.) * Pungko Pungko with Chicharong Bulaklak - We actually call this Ginabot in Cebu. The texture is quite gummy/chewy because it’s not just deep fried pork BUT pork intestines. Lol so surprise! You did not just eat a pig’s brain (Tuslob Buwa) but also a pig’s intestines. Hehehe. But to be fair, Ginabot is my all-time favorite Cebuano streetfood. Like I literally inhaled this in high school, but I must say that for the best experience, you have to try the ones in Lapu2x and/or Talisay/Tabunok! They serve always the freshest batch and they’re huuuge. The crisp is like no other. I think what makes Ginabot taste 10x better is actually the sawsawan (sauce mix) that you dip it into. I especially love it when they include tuba (coconut wine) in it. So the best sawsawan to match ginabot is tuba + onions + ginger + chili + suka (vinegar). Or what we call “suka nga pinakurat” (you can order this separately too like a liquid gochujang lol). * Lechon Manok - You only featured Lechon Baboy (which undoubtedly is Cebu’s pride and glory) but we actually have some really amazing Lechon Manok too. The best ones are those prepared in the same way we do with Lechon Baboy (so it’s the spit roasted chicken, not the barbecued chicken). I would recommend Joule’s Lechon Manok in Talamban. * Siomai sa Tisa (and special mention: Braddex) - Since you’ve gone to Colon and Carbon night markets, if you go a little further south of the city, you could visit Tisa and experience their “Siomai”, which is inspired by the Chinese Siu Mai or Zhēng Jiǎo. What makes it extra special is how they make their sauce/dip for their Siomai, and the whole dimsum experience is turned into a street food staple in this area. I also mentioned “Braddex” since Cebuanos reaaaally love a particular chain of dimsum fast food, and Braddex is a version of it where they’ve managed to recreate decent dimsum, and turn it into something more accessible for everyone. * STK (Sugba, Tuwa, Kilaw) - literally translates to “grill, stew, and eaten fresh”. These three methods is how we best enjoy seafood here in Cebu. Despite growing up in Lechon capital of the Philippines, I really love and take pride of my seafood, so apart from your experience in Lolo Inteng’s Bakasihan, I wish you could’ve visited other STK shops (there’s a bunch lined up in Capitol area, which are some of the OGs), a few steps away from Fuente Osmeña Blvd. Or maybe, if you do end up traveling to Bantayan next time, if you visit the local market, you can find these good spots/vendors who can gladly STK the best and freshest seafood for you. * Brazo Cake - And while you’re in Bantayan (there’s also actually a branch in Cebu City already), you can go ahead and try the Brazo de Mercedes Cake in Kermit’s Bantayan. If you love desserts, you will probably die for. (There are so much more Cebuano desserts I tell ya.) Anyway! I hope these help in your itinerary to your next Cebu trip! 🫡 Again, daghang salamat for producing this amazing and thoughtful content about Cebu. 🥹
