Animated deaths, powerful melee, and I would say fewer mandatory short cutscenes, like all those quick events where the Slayer isn't even shown.

2016 was definitely the more cinematic game, but pretty much everything else was done better by Eternal. Also, the dash deals decent damage, actually. You can stagger an imp with two dashes.

I think you never understood why the melee got nerfed. The point about melee atacks being way too weaker in eternal was because of the blood punch mechanic where it served as a panic button and to destroy weak points/cybermancubi armor (beside dealing a HUGE lot of damage), and also to make the player use the weapons more often. If stronger melee was a thing in Eternal, then the player would've abused this on a lot of enemies (Just how it happend in 2016 and on your footage). Doing Glory Kills was a top priority for the player in order to earn a blood punch to stay way more active in combat.

Unique death animations really helped sell the impact of your deaths. I loved getting pummeled by Knights or steamrolled by Pinkies. In Eternal you just explode. (Probably due to the speedier "arcadey" tone.) Dynamic glorykills going kinda makes sense because Eternal is so much more open and there's not as many opportunities for them. 2016 is way more claustrophobic. And not being able to chainsaw superheavies is good because it keeps them as big threats you have to respect and take doen another way...until you get the Crucible :p

Also, another thing about SnapMap is in case id shuts it down and a lot of content is lost, which is a sad thing i don't want to happen. This is because of Doom being that series whose one of the main programmers released the source code of the old games because he was influenced by hacker culture. Obviously, modern id and their games are not in the same state as old id but modern games seem to be harder to preserve for the future because they're never really "complete", because of stuff like updates, DLC, services and online based features. It's why i wish the phrase "Doom IS Eternal" applied to stuff like mods, wads, source ports, reverse engineering, etc all those sections in the fanbase that made it seem like fans owned the series and made it feel immortal and available.

I think melee should've gotten reworked than being nerfed. I understand it was needed to be discourage dumb melee spam cheesing. I personally would've liked a parry mechanic. Be able to interrupt weaker enemy melee animations.

No more rune trials and upgradable runes please. They really hurt the pacing of the game. Secret encounters are much better and in Eternal, runes are upgraded the moment you get them. Thank God.

Landing animation after falling from a certain height... And realistic weapon pickup instead of a floating and rotating 3D icon representing the said weapon.

Respectfully: rune trials??? Those things were tedious, boring, and better replaced by challenges of actual combat in eternal. Again, respectfully tho

animated deaths animations would be cool but i prabably take too much time too add, dynamic glory kills should have stayed in cause like their IN THE GAME FILES i think someone made a video on it, chainsawing barons would make the crucible useless in my opinion and most important the punch damage should stay the way it is like could you imagine being able to just insta glory kill infinite spawning fodder when under pressure? that would break the game

I mean, dashing in Doom Eternal deals damage like the punch in 2016. You can stagger an imp with two dashes.

I think the Arcade mode and Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch should have been in Eternal. Arcade mode just seems perfect for Eternal and the only similar thing we have in Eternal is Horde mode which isn't really the Horde mode me and everyone else were asking for. And only having Battle mode PvP gets old fast, besides that the mode isn't really fun to play in my opinion. Even Predator: Hunting Grounds has a second symmetrical game mode to have some variety besides the main asymmetrical mode and where I can also play the Predator in a more casual environment. A PvE mode where I can play as a Demon would have been really cool too, like the part in the campaign where you control the Revenant for a short time.

you forgot the most important one wich is WEAPON PICK UP ANIMATIONS. i mean wth in doom eternal we're supposed to believe doomslayer got a physical plasma rifle from a floating green rifle hologram in the middle of nowhere??

you are confusing animations with the design of how you obtain them. Pick up animations are still in eternal, as for the how you get them thats fine to critisize but doom eternal was all about being arcady so agree to dissagree

@@vidc4313 nope. i said pick up animation not newly obtained weapon inspection animation. In doom 2016 you pick up weapons off the floor don't you? Afterwards then the slayer inspects the weapon

@@dondeka2086 i mean fair, but my point was every weapon that you first get in both games is at first inspected by the slayer. In 2016 you get a decent ammount of weapons from cases like the plasma rifle and the gauss cannon, then theres the bfg which you get in its own test chamber, but yes majority you get is picked from the ground/dead body. Why? because the place has been invaded and it makes sense that weapons you find in most places would be in random places. Eternal doesnt really care about that, except for again, bfg, super shotgun, Plasma rifle(sort of) and the crucible which are obtained through scenarios in which they make sense too. Everything else is first introduced as a floating weapon, which i personally do not care about because eternal and 2016 are miles apart in atmosphere.

I miss Gauss Cannon, I guess it was so broken that it had to be replaced. Siege mode is pretty much a hitscan destroyer blade, but faster to recharge (and the recharge can be skipped too)

Mainly agree with Snapmap here. Was a great way to involve console players into the map making community. Albeit with limited tools. A shame they decided to drop it in favor of Battlemode and Invasion. I’m sure those resources also went to the fantastic DLCs but I still would’ve preferred Snapmap over all of it. Gave way to endless creations, and with Eternal’s additions? Could’ve been amazing. Plus, the DLC storyline felt too grand for it to be compacted into 6 missions. Honestly I think it would’ve been better if developed as a separate game, but that’s just me.

Rune trials and upgrades just added unnecessary grinding to the game, having to repeat checkpoints to get most of them.

I think other elements will be adequately improved in the next work. But one thing: In the next work, Dynamic Glory Kills needs to be shown like the previous work(including Berserker Mode, too!).

the shitty base melee was intentional to make sure u wouldn't spam it when cornered and to no accidentally waste a blood punch, i do however think the good melee should come back in the next game since we learned our lesson. And tbh i dont miss rune trials, fun first time but boring ltr when u had to pause the campaign to arbitrarily play them.

Whilst I disagree with all of these, I can at least understand the support for them. However it's a hard disagree on the rune trials and upgrades. I don't enjoy the trials whatsoever and found the upgrades are OP and unnecessary Edit: the death animations are cool. Maybe an option to enable them would have been cool. Still, they take time to communicate to the player that they've reached a failstate. Baron chainsaw wouldn't be good for balance. That and the fact that the Slayer doesn't saw through heavies like they're made of putty anymore is a good thing. Chainsaw aint a sword. Melee nerf seems necessary to stop players from cheesing their way out of being cornered in the first few stages. I think maybe more stunning animations would have been a decent compromise? I'm a bit torn. Seems like a necessary evil for the sake of balance. Context glory kills take too long and that's not good on UN, since it's something you wouldn't likely intend.

I feel like they couldve made the rune trials a lot more fun in eternal with all the new movement mechanics but yeah it wouldve gotten annoying on repeat playthroughs especially UN

@@aceskeletonne7446 I feel as though the slayer gates were a much better replacement due to them being optional, as well as being non-restrictive. I think having both trials and gates would be too much but that's just me

My most missed features are: Melee doing any damage. I'm not asking for much, just enough to have the potential to kill a zombie without blood charge, you know? Chaingun needing to wind up made it feel extra meaty and differentiated it from the other weapons. Glory kills felt more visceral, while in DE they tend to feel too clean. Slice? Nah, gimmie BASH. BASH AGAINST THE WALL. The classic levels were a very fun touch, I miss them. The gauss cannon is was cooler than the ballista even without siege mode. But what I miss the most are actually having many levels in hell. WAY too many levels in DE are in night sentinel lands, which looks very... not doom. It kinda kills the vibe for me.

wow we found the single person who actually missed the chaingun wind up. that's gotta be the dumbest thing to miss from 2016. also doom 2016 had only one more level directly in hell compared to eternal(base game). but levels 1 and 5 made up for that by still feeling a lot like hell. and idk how you could dislike the sentinel levels' theming.

nahhh rune trials got boring on repeat playthroughs imo. some other stuff I agree but half of these I feel like wouldve been useless.

Oh yes, shitty melee in doom eternal. Intentionally places for weapons and bot upgrades, without green shiny. More intrincated enviroment, open maps, in doom eternal everything feels very forced. I like the platforming ways, but the coherence of the enviroment in D2016 taken advantage from DE.

I got stuck on some geo on Doom 2016. First fight on Argent Tower on UN after playing Eternal for so long. There was also an incident on Argent Facility (Destroyed) where I could barely see an amushing Caco due to the red mist. Needless to say it changed my opinion on 2016's more atmospheric and immersive style. Then again these things don't matter so much when you're not playing UN

To be honest, Doom 2016 was better than Eternal. It was also better polished, with Eternal having some pretty major bugs still in the game 3 years later.
