Did anyone mention that the "guitar" used in Cultist Base (44:57) is actually not a guitar, but a lawnmower :S No guitars were used at all in that piece, only lawnmower/chain saw. (Edit: "No guitars" may be false after all.)

What is so crazy cool about the doom games, is that the soundtrack is adaptive. 15:05 This part is for exploration and intermission, but at a moments notice, it can pick up to light fighting with the arrival of enemies. From there, it might pick up to heavy fighting, or even go back to exploration.

There was apparently some issue with Mick mixing the songs as fast as Bethesda wanted, so they got someone else to do it, but apparently that person only had the final mixes to work with or something, not the original studio tracks. That's why some of it sounds so different. Mick got like a half dozen or something done.

Gotta love those nine string double drop C# tuned guitars. All of the crunch. Also, majority of the electronic elements in all of the DOOM soundtrack is literally just a sinewave run trough 4 parallel channels of various analog pedals and distortion types (including a practice amp and a reel-to-reel tape machine) Mick has an entire GDC talk explain a good amount of all the details of this, and it's some pretty interesting stuff to be honest

Highly recommend the Terraria soundtrack. A close second would be the Calamity mod ost for Terraria, as it is about the closest thing to an official video game soundtrack a mod team has made, and it is beautiful. But it is also long, as in, over 3 hours for the modded music. The Terraria soundtrack on the other hand... is amazing. It had a soundtrack update a year ago with its 1.4 update. But it's original and new soundtrack are up there for some of the most appreciated and respected video game soundtracks of all time. If you like 8-bit like and upbeat boss music along with some big mood setters, this is the one to listen to and appreciate.

I'm not sure about it being the closest thing to a soundtrack a mod team has ever made... Beyond Skyrim has at least 10 hours worth of music thus far. To be fair, only Bruma has actually released in playable form I think (sound track of 3 hours or so). Falskaar also had one (although only about 45min in its OST release form). Enderal's clocks in at 5 hours. Interesting NPC's follower/quest mod added a good collection of custom songs(with lyrics) for custom bards in game and that come out during quests. Totally fair if you prefer the Calamity music, but the TSO modding community has produced probably 100s of hours of music at this point.

Deag Ranak is actually just a piece of the DOOM HUNTER base ambient music. The entire ambient track that is arranged is my fave piece of music from the game. It makes the hairs on my arm stand up. If you play the game and get the context for it you will appreciate it more. The entire premise is one of the Deag is creating a supreme weapon to take out the DOOM Slayer, but you are in fact the hunter. The way the beat goes with your heart beat and pulse is mesmerizing. Yes, very ominous.

The thing to remember is, this was created for a game. It has many extended parts that can be used in game to delay and shorten music scene transitions.

You really need to listen to the original DOOM OSTs. I'm talking about the original 1993 DOOM game and DOOM II: Hell on Earth, composed by Bobby Prince. It's a different feel from the modern games, but it's very classic and the use of the instrument samples Bobby utilizes is amazing, and I'm sure you'll LOVE some of the... inspirations Bobby took for his songs. Oh, and of course, plenty of guitar stuff in there. As a bonus, you should also check out DOOM 64's Theme, the 20th anniversary version by Aubrey Hodges, and DOOM 3's Theme by Tweaker. D64's and D3's soundtracks are mostly ambience, so you don't have to check out the full OSTs, but their title themes are definitely worth listening to, so if you ever do react to the first two games' OSTs, you should listen to those at the end of it.

little fun fact/lore: the reason the Doom Slayer went on a few eons (one eon is 1,000,000,000 years) fighting in hell and instilling such fear into the demons is because when they invaded his home world they killed the one thing he cared for his bunny named Daisy

I don't know if it was mentioned in the video i haven't watched the full thing yet but, i just wanted to give some clarification as to how the music works in game, with the exception of the menu songs I think every music starts, develops, drops, and stops according to what the player is doing in game, and the transition is almost perfectly seamless, an standardized remix of the songs had to be made for listening outside of the game which means that the songs you listen to on KZfaq aren't exactly the way it's played in game given the reactive nature of the soundtrack, the soundtrack can only be enjoyed at its finest state in game
