This level scared me senseless back when I played it in the mid 90’s. And that music still gives me chills. I had a recurring nightmare that the Icon of Sin/Baphomet/Boss Brain…whatever it’s called would set up in the swimming pool of our holiday timeshare and I’d be the only one having to defeat it. I know this whole thing sounds ridiculous but I really had this nightmare for years.

Personally, I enjoy videos a lot more when the player actually goes head-to-head with the boss, like you did here, instead of just uploading their best steamroll. Its a lot more exciting to see close calls and to really get into the video, wondering up until the end, "is he gonna do it? YEAH! He did it!" So good on you man. I liked this.

I really like how this boss looks. Hell, I like how everything in the classic Doom games looks. Every demon has a simple yet iconic design, and while this specific boss fight is boring compared to the Cyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind, the Icon of Sin just looks metal as fuck. I especially like how its brain is exposed. The idea of brain surgery done by mechanical hellspawn is both creepy and interesting. Since many demons are made of merged flesh and steel, I think that the Icon of Sin must have been undergoing a mechanical integration of some sort to enhance its demonic capabilities when fatally interrupted by DoomGuy.

Dude, you actually sacrificed yourself to defeat sin. That's just absolutely hardcore! I love how that fight ended. Imagine if that was the actual canon ending to the story with Doom guy dying at the end sacrificing his own life to defeat Sin. Nonetheless, great gameplay and awesome ending! 😊

They've used that "SHHWOOP!!!!" sound, that the demon head makes when it shoots a box out, in pretty much every action movie from the early 2000's until today. Every other explosion seems to have that "SHHWOOP!!!" sound now. ID must make a mint on it with licensing fees.

To anybody wondering about 2800%: At the start of this level, there is one enemy, John Romero (or rather his head, behind the brain hole). Kill it, that's 100%. But he keeps spitting out more enemies, in the form of those skull boxes (you hear a whoosh every time a box lands and an enemy spawns). These enemies count towards the kill count but not the starting monster count. Kill one plus Romero, that's 200%, 2 is 300%, etc. So he killed 28 monsters - or Romero and 27 spawned monsters.

Weirdness: What inspired me to look this up is that I couldn't remember if the final room had any healing, because I just watched a video on Pacifist speed runs (can't directly attack any monster), which stated this is the last level that doesn't have a Pacifist speedrun record yet (because shooting John Romero is against the rules). It's been theorized (and proven using a cheat tool) it could be accomplished by getting Arch Viles to blast you off the elevator so that your dead body fits through the brain hole and their attacks on you fry him. Next video I see is someone winning in that exact nearly impossible way, LOL!

Story time, I've never played any of the doom games, ever. The first time doom was ever mentioned I think was from a meme online, and then I saw a video from markiplier about doom eternal, and I thought that was the coolest. I watched some videos and kinda understood the lore, but I didn't have the tech to play doom eternal, so I looked to see if there were any doom-like games. You can imagine how happy my ape brain was when I learned that doom eternal wasn't the only doom game. I learned that doom was on PC, there was a N64 variant, and yesterday, I found out there was a mobile version of doom. I looked at the reviews, people were complaining about control issues, so I looked at doom 2. The same complaints, but most of them edited to thank the people for fixing their problem. I paid 5 bucks and downloaded doom 2, and I play on the easiest difficultly because hey, I'm new. Then I got bored and switched it up to Hurt me Plenty and after much begging and pleading to God, I got to this level. I wasted my ammo shooting demons, and just shooting my guns at the BODY of the icon of sin. So here I am, and I feel like a complete idiot now that I'm supposed to shoot the brain.

Check it around 2:16 - If you look around where the Icons head meets his left horn (your left, I should say), you'll notice that its texture is slightly disconnected from the head.

An alternate reality where doomguy sacrifices himself to destroy the icon of sin, and then the mother demon would take over phobos. Aside from that, doomguy could never be abducted by the sentinels, meaning they would never know about he’ll, leading to the events of doom eternal not happening
