Get your KZfaq compression hats on, because today I'm looking at what happens if you combine ASCII Text with the wonderful world of Doom. Well, you get 1337D00M by Dario Zubovic, created in the Unity engine, but using the shareware Doom.wad, it is a feast for the senses. It also feels a lot like being NEO, in the Matrix, which is nice.
Grab 1337D00M at dario-zubovic.itch.io/1337-doom

@Kitulous

that's why this video should have been rendered at at least 1440p 1440p and 2160p videos on youtube allow for much higher bitrates, even if the video is 1080p upscaled it will be blurry on those monitors but at least there will be less compression artifacts

It's like a natural anti-aliasing. For 3D games, part of the computer's processing power is free. And if I want to play games with that, I *have* to use in-game anti-aliasing. I can't just put my glasses down (I'm long-sighted).

May I recommend uploading this video in 4k? Even if you just upscale your current raw video to 4k, youtube allowing much higher bandwidths at 4k would help immensely with clearing things up here.

At the strength I need them at they are extremely expensive and need to be specially ordered. The shape they have to take at that point is also damaging to my eyes. The reason I wanted to play a game without glasses is because it is almost always tiring to look through glasses, lenses etc. It relaxes the eyes having not to. Doing this (and it works I've tested it now) gives me the chance to play games without anything.

Wow, they weren't kidding about being nearsighted helping with the image visualization. I went back to the hardest difficulty footage, pulled my glasses down, and instantly saw a recognizable gameplay screen. Still difficult to make out a lot of the details, but I saw the map itself where before I saw nothing but numbers. That's fascinating.

I've always loved the ASCII renditions of images/games and the processing of pics since I encountered a rank old hand scanner in the early 90's whilst on Youth Training. This scanner was believed to be dead until we spent a few hours getting it back to life and then spent a few days scanning anything and everything for a laugh. This particular hand scanner had OCR software (Optical Character Recognition) and we forced it to scan pictures for shits & giggles and we got some lovely 800 x 600 pics made from ACSII. Happy days, indeed!
