Doomed to Never win a Major: The Rise and Fall of GuardiaN

Once, GuardiaN was known as one of the best CS:GO players in the world. He was a Slovakian AWPer extraordinaire, and you simply couldn't talk about the best players in the world without mentioning his name.
But after three lost Major Grand Finals, being bounced from team to team, and declining performance, GuardiaN's legacy is in question.
Is it too late for GuardiaN?

-"I believed I was destined for greatness." -" Were you not.?" -" I was indeed, but my destiny was to be remembered for Greatness, not for my victories..." Respect for Guardian. Edit : Thank you for all the likes and appreciation. And yes, this quote was penned by me and it's not in the video.

I first started playing CSGO on LAN with my friends in the dom. Well , I had no specific taste for any weapon. Let it be an AK-47 or M4 or SMG or Sniper. And all of a sudden , I realized the importance of the AWP. I wanted to master it. I watched videos of all pro awpers. GuardiaN was different. His style of AWP caught my attention than any other awper did. GuardiaN always went for a multi kill in a round. After watching him ,I decided to start AWPing. Played online CS. Made friends and made a team. And I've become the awper of my team. GuardiaN thank you so much , you have my utmost respect. You are a goddamn legend. And you will always be my #1.

I'm not saying it's easy, mentality atleast, but Guardian shouldn't have given up after 3 close majors. Look at players like Kuroky, Jerax and especially Notail. All of those players kept trying for atleast 6 years before they made it. Hell Jerax even retired after winning The International twice in a row from getting alot of lows between 2012 to 2016. Dont give up when you know you're good.
@p0ker_m
@p0ker_m 4 жыл бұрын
He's been trying for longer and he hasn't given up, it's just that every player has its peak and unfortunately he has passed his. No matter how hard he tries from now on, he will never be the same guardian. Too much time has passed.

@@p0ker_m I don't wanna be rude or be trivialising your comment but you clearly don't know some of the stuff these dota players went through and for how long they fought. Especially Kuroky, Notail and the one I didn't mention Fear.
@p0ker_m
@p0ker_m 4 жыл бұрын
@@SupaL33tKillar This applies to all games. Not just to dota. All players eventually hit their peak. Take for example get_right, the only player I'd admit works harder than him is s1mple, but get_right no longer can do the same s1mple does, he's just past what he can do even if he grinds 24/7.
@SupaL33tKillar
@SupaL33tKillar 4 жыл бұрын
@@p0ker_m Fear was already way past his prime when he won ti5. Qudans literally retired for yesrs from playing Tekken competitively and rejoined for nostalgic sake and won the championship. Diago and Justin Wong are both old by now and they're both still winning tournaments despite suffering from many embarrassing defeats along the way. Nestea of Starcaft 2 was 27 and considered a wash up before he finally won 3 GSL in a row. sOs was also considered B tier for the longest time before he won the Starcaft championship in 2013. You're missing the point. Technical prowess is one thing, but the most important thing to win a championship, be it esport or regular sports, is the mental resilience to failure and will to win. The moment someone gives up mentality, the moment they lost the drive to go on, they've defeated themselves. Every pro player showcased by The Score talked about the importance of the mental game and the drive to continue. Notail gave up for 4 years before Ceb motivated him to try again and he ends up winning two TI in a row. The first in the history of dota. Qudans had depression when he felt he lost his prime and retired before coming back. We havent even talked about Juan Hungrybox DeBeidma winning the Dreamhack super mash bros tournament back in 2015. The first American to do so on European soil. He went through so much and was so dejected by the time the tournament rolled around that when he won, he cried in the winning speech. And he did it with fucking jigglypuff.

@@SupaL33tKillar I'm sorry but sometimes you are simply not meant to win, even if you try hard because different sources did say that guardian has been trying hard even during his time with NaVi. If it was just hard work, get right would have already won a major, heck, even s1mple. There's a real possibility that s1mple might never win a major no matter how talented and how hard he's working. It's just the way it is with sports and it is sometimes disrespectful to call someone lazy or to have a bad mentality when compared to someone else who had success, which mind you, wasn't only due to his drive. It's just the way life is. Also, don't get me wrong, I agree with the examples you provided, heck I can easily find similar ones from CS:GO or any other game. It's just that there's more to that and it is not always up to determination, skill and work ethic.

FaZe should have won that major. Every time I see Olof throw his earphones I feel his pain. Cloud 9 had no business winning that major. I just wish FaZe stuck with the roster after the major and worked through their struggles instead of kicking people. They were the best team at one point and one big loss made them question one another.
@enter6960
@enter6960 4 жыл бұрын
It was actualy 2 big loses. Boston and then Katowice. Both lost in last map of series in double overtime. And bigest problem was olofmeister's brake. Astralis were coming back and FaZe had to play with stand in for almost 5 months. And ofcourse that Boston was their Major to win. C9 played best cs they ever played and on FaZe side Guardian was only one to realy step up.
@lime4

@@enter6960 true. Olofs break was the biggest factor that made the team play worse altogether. Rain was just absent at Boston. I think they're doing better as a team rn and will keep improving with this roster once LAN tournaments come back, but I very much would prefer if they had kept their old roster. The way they dominated ESL New York was insane. Most of the team's they played couldn't even pass the 10 round mark against them. Why change a working formula is beyond me.
