Nope, this is not good care at all it’s actually a horrible idea to remove the skin as the delicate new skin can tear along with it. And the tank is straight up awful. I’m surprised this crestie is alive.
@Potatocrime24-76 ай бұрын
@@Mr.Rambunctious the tank is honestly not that bad it's not as "enriched" as other tanks, but it's a decent tank. While I agree that you shouldn't "help" a reptile shed. Sometimes it's needed. Emzotics for example has a lazy blood python who puts no effort into his shedding so she has to put him in a tub and help him if she doesn't do this the skin won't come off and would cause more problems than anything.
@perkuu69376 ай бұрын
@@Mr.RambunctiousSeeing as there’s plenty of people with lazy shedders, I’m sure this person knows their reptile better than you.
@jumbojimbo418016 ай бұрын
@@Mr.Rambunctiousyeah. Not true. That crestie is in great health. Vocal, good weight, responsive, and a lot of uninformed people like to spout the whole “never help your animal shed” nonsense, when in reality it is often necessary. Also if you know anything about when a reptile is ready to shed and how different species shed, then you should be able to do this with no issue.
@Darjaboo6 ай бұрын
I used to catch Green Anole in Texas and they are some of the coolest reptiles. I had caught one in the wild and it was shedding. After it rested in my hand checking me out for a few minutes and realized I wasn't a predator it actually started to actively remove it's shed. When I saw it nuzzling my hand to try and remove it I too began to help it very similar to how you did by holding the shed skin and letting the reptile pull away so as not to harm it. It was eating the shed it was removing and the whole process took 5-10 minutes. It was such a cool experience being able to participate in something, like being a part of nature. After it was done I put it back where I found it and it just watched me. The coolest thing about Anole is they will actively watch you and you can see in their eyes they are working things out in their brain.
@toryknotts80266 ай бұрын
I'm in Florida and I catch/chase them. I love their blue eyes! Then there are the Brown Anoles, so totally different than the green ones! Much larger and more aggressive too, plus the really big ones get ridges on their tails that make them look like tiny dinosaurs! Want to hear more?
@MusicGamesLife6 ай бұрын
I'm glad to see someone else saying this! We have a whole bunch of green anoles living around my house in Texas, and unlike most wild animals they've never been that wary of us. They seem to like watching us go about our lives and let us do the same for them 🥰

they seemed quite experienced and evidently the humidity was high as it came off so easily

Especially whoever live in humid area like equator, which the humidity is around +50 to 80. In my country and my city we had the worst humidity which is 90 - 100 and it happened years ago, luckily it's only twice. But most of the time the humidity is around +60 - 70 (normal).
You can see the way the skin is drying and pulling up her back toe pads. She definitely needed to shed. Perhaps dry weather made it difficult? She obviously trusts you very much to let you help her! ❤ For anyone curious, geckos eat their skin. It is believed that they possibly regain lost nutrients from eating the skin.

It's good You're helping her. Please be careful with their toes. If some part of the shed will stuck on the extremities, like toes, or tail, they can cut the bloodflow and can make the affected parts rot and fall off. Some lizards are really prone to getting stuck shed, my leopard geckos had that issue all the time, even though we were doing our best with humidity. With snakes it's a bit easier, cause they don't have legs 😂
@GeoGamerArtistVlogger6 ай бұрын

@@GeoGamerArtistVlogger very much true. I had my african house snake having her shed stuck on her eyecap and it was whole ceremony to take it off, especially since she didn't like water at all, but luckily I made it and since then I'm misting my enclosure less intensivelly, but more regularily and from that momment, she didn't have this issue, allthough I'm ready for a possibility of it happening again
