Is sal wood not as well seasoned or dried like teakwood? Sal wood without cracks does not develop new cracks unless they are hidden ones so it seems!

Mr. Singh you need to explore all the other timber species now available in India.For example , Red and white Oak, beech, ash walnut, western cedar etc. These are all hardwoods and cheaper than good quality teak. Teak sold for door frames is from fast grown, plantation teak with a max diameter of 10 to 12 inch dia. consequently 50% sap wood, which termites love ! Thumb rule for air drying green wood is 1 year per 25 mm thickness. 12% or less moisture content is considered dry.

No one does air drying anymore. Everything in market is now kiln dried.

Those timbers you mentioned are available in very low quantity that's why it's not used even when it's cheaper.

Desi sal is best, mirandi aas paas bhi nahi hai, it is similar to lambu, average, not great. Or if you try you may find piasal, expensive but top notch.
