They should pay an hourly rate as long as you are clocked in for a shift and they can see that you’re active trying to find orders instead of just active dash time. Some people would abuse the system by just clocking in and just staying home but I believe they should track it a different way as if, the system can see that you are constantly in a busy area or in your city and you’re waiting for orders.

They limit the number of people that can do earn by hour already, so this makes sense. Have the hourly rate start with the first order and stop either when you log off or when you refuse an order, then have it kick back in when you accept the next order. I would much rather this than the current system. I've been in earn by time mode and waited a half hour for an order, which is just terrible.

@@showtimekid7749 of course it's only when you're active... It says so right in the description. My downtime tends to be less than 2 hours a week... They track EVERYTHING and I'm so glad because when I get my mileage report next February I'll be sure to file my taxes properly this time lol go to the hot zone first then sign on. Last night they were paying $20/hr but I don't like driving in the rain at night so I'm going for some perks today

Well doordash wouldn’t let you sit home and farm them for money anyways because already if on earn by hour, you have to accept the orders. If you decline two, it kicks you off of earn by time and you have to do earn by order.

We recently switched to earn by order and glad we did. We make more money while driving less. And having a 35% acceptance rating hasn't prevented us from getting good paying orders.

Drive by time works very nicely for me sometimes late night at the McDonalds and Taco Bell drive-thru after the lobby is closed. One night I sat in the Taco Bell drive-thru waiting for 45 minutes for 1 order then delivery time. I try not to fall into the long-distance order delivery traps after having a few of those and being way out in the boonies to get back to my zone.

Hard “no” on this. I’m a new dasher and did my first shift today. I chose earn by time just to keep things simpler, but found it confusing. I delivered 7 orders in under 3 hours, and 5 out of 7 were no tip. I even did a stacked order and got stiffed on both. The app also didn’t give me the mileage to customer’s house until I hit the navigation to get it to them. I was pretty frustrated as a first time driver.

You must be in a very busy zone I haven’t seen more peek pay in Florida lately I checked and they moved it to very late at night and early morning but no more peek pay in the afternoon except for maybe fridays and it’s very low like $2 sometimes just $1 I try to stick close to the city and I do decent money earn by order never less than $20 and hour I haven’t done earn by time but unless is more than $20 is not worth it

Earn by hour is from the time you accepted an order til finish. If you are just sitting in the car waiting without any orders, you still don't get the hourly wage.

Same it’s stupid. I have always received tips on orders it’s rare that I don’t. I tried pay by hour today and all were no tips. That’s fishy. Makes me think doordash can adjust what we see and adjust the pay even when customers tip

That's cause Door Dash probably tells the customer that the driver is getting paid by the hour so the customer feels like they don't need to tip then.. I don't think it's fair that Door Dash tells the customer that they're getting paid by the hour. It's none of their business honestly, the customer should be in the dark about how the Dasher is getting paid so that they will tip regardless..

Yes but some areas suck and almost all orders are high miles and low tip. So if you’re in some awful area it might benefit you. But it won’t benefit you much that’s for sure.

It's 15.25 in my market in Minneapolis and in the morning from 5am to 10am and from 11pm to 3 am is the best time to use it im so glad they made this feature

Pay by time works for me. $14.86 in my area. I can do about 3-4 orders per hr. Whenever I earn by order I make less in my area bc of the distance per order.

I've been doing DoorDash since November and the pay by hr has not been around that long, I do think it's a nice incentive to have but sometimes doing the pay by order makes you more money depending on the time of day. Right now the hrly rate for pay by the hr is $16.75 and some days it just depends on when your dashing it will go up to $20.75 an hr. It's got it's perks and its got it's good and bad moments just like any other job, the reason I love doing it is cause I love that I can work when I want and still have time during the day to do other things that need to be done!!!

I hate the per offer or by time program doordash just rolled out reason number one the hourly rate is $11.25 who can survive on that?if you choose to do it for offerthey don't give you any Josh's you might get one per shift

Absolutely nobody can survive on $16.50 an hour.. A person would not be able to live alone in even a one bedroom apartment and have a car payment and be able to buy food and pay their bills with $16.50 an hour.. It really sucks cause they keep raising the prices on literally everything in this world and the pay is staying the same.. 10-15 years ago $16.50 was a really good amount of money to make, now it's a fuckin joke! 10-15 years ago you could live alone and afford a car payment and be able to pay your bills and kinda live a little comfortably life.. They've made everything so God Damn expensive that the $16.50 now is like making $8 an hour 10-15 years ago..

I can see earn by time as something you shouldn’t do unless you plan on raising your acceptance rate or there’s a lot of traffic slowing you down to a standstill allowing you to milk the ebt orders and get away with it cause DoorDash can see that you’re doing the order but you’re stuck and all you can do is wait. Do earn by time the first half of your shift preferably during downtimes like 7:30 to 11:30 and 2:30 to 5:30 that way you’re raising your acceptance rate and making a profit. So yeah don’t do it for a whole shift that would be crazy but if you do it for a little bit of it you could benefit without taking much of a loss

Here in my market earn by time is $14.75. I have been using it quite a bit, but have noticed that I get a lot no tip orders for even long drives. Basically, just pick up the trash. So you can say I am a Doordash Garbage Collector. Going to keep dashing by time till the end of the month so I keep my role as a Top Dasher, but switching back to dashing per order next month.

Start of Jan 2023 was $10 per hour, then bout 1st week in March went to $11.75 and bout 2 weeks ago it went to $15.50, I'm in Brighton Michigan zone, I usually use earn by time mornings and nights to 2am as it adds up when lobbies are closed and have to wait in drive threws, worst ones that late is Tacobell N Micky D's, but yes ya do get them zero tipped orders or small tipped one, I worked all day Friday made almost $350 dollars 30 deliveries, over $10 bucks an order and Saturday I made $190, so earn by time works for me, wish could see the tips as use it wisely to reject that one order per hour if its that zero tip w/ long say mileage or taken ya way outta your area, to keep short run zero tip ya know, keep it still in dashers hands of accept/denied anyways super cool I found your Chanel Mike

Just trying out earned by time today and it actually worked out better. I was less stressed not having to rush through busy areas, didnt have to worry about long pickup times. And I didn't have to worry about declining 90% of my orders and getting frustrated.

Don't forget they will be sending orders that send drivers out of their area and the Hourly only pays while you are on a trip. It make take the driver 15-20 minutes where they are not getting paid to get back to their zone.

I had the opposite, maybe it's cause I'm new but I kept getting these pay by order 5 dollar 10 mile orders in a downtown busy setting, makes me want to switch over to the 16.25 by hr, because I still had to wait 30 minutes for the order at some places, might as well get paid for waiting

$13/hr base pay in NE Arkansas. i prefer it bc it gives you more flexibility in what you take in term of distance and espcially late night when most all orders are sitting in drive thru lines.

11.75 in Ohio. I don’t want to do it because I always want the freedom to deny crazy far distances and risk no tip orders and complaints for no reason. Per order varies from 20-30 an hour, I’m good. We almost never have peak pay here, maybe 1-1.50 on weekend evenings.

13/hr in south florida, but I’m dashing as we speak and the peak pay on earn by time is 4+. I have over 2k deliveries and i like pay by time when it’s slow because it’s guaranteed money and it’s good when I have the time of day. I usually make more than the 13 guaranteed and hour. Plus it increases my acceptance rate and keeps it high, so whenever I do pay by order it’s generally good as well. This is just from my experience in South FL

First day doing door dash. I skipped per hour and did per order. I made 16/hour and declined 2 orders (phone was dying). That’s higher than the guarantee of 15/hr in my zone. Most of my day was busy, slow start though.

The idea of earning by time sounded good but I benefited more from earn by order…the miles were higher or lower mileage but no tips & waiting times tended to be shorter so that cuts into active time

I can make 30 an hour when it’s busy non stop orders. 3.5 to 4 an hour. You don’t see how much the order is until you pick up and it’s too late. Perfect excuse and cover for stealing tips.

I am in Pittsburgh and I use By Time for late night because I find that the restaurants that are open at those times (fast food) usually make you wait in their drive-thru lines with everyone else AND the orders from these places (single/two-person $15 orders) aren’t yielding as much tips as a $40-$60 order for a family order from a sit-down place. I’ve started to experiment with By Time at rush hour too. It’s too early to say but the theory is that because it can take a long time to get to even short destinations in the city between 4-6p the By Time option might be better. There are pockets of the city where many orders are all fast food / fast casual, which as I said above can mean smaller tips in general. So if the poor tipping is a wash for either option then at least I get paid a little more for sitting in traffic. It’s too soon to tell if the theory is correct but I will say it’s much less stressful not worrying about rushing / I don’t get any road rage dealing with congestion and other drivers’ issues.

Also nice is that you aren't driving fast to get the order over with. You can drive the speed limit, turn your music on, concentrate on just the one order, and not run or worry about long lines. But then that just messes with the flow tho if you're being a snail all day lol

One of the things that is going to help me experiment with it tomorrow Is a lot of times I get orders for restaurants that are really slow where they get really busy. So I'm not going to mind sitting in a busy drive-thru if I'm being paid for it

You need to strategize when to use which option. During lunch or dinner rush earn by trip has the edge. My regular job is a midnight shift job so I'm up late at night. The McDonald's in my area gets slammed on a Friday night. You'll be sitting in that drive thru line for half an hour. You're feeling a lot better about it when you know your pay goes up every minute you're in that line.

Earn by time peak pay is only works to our benefit when it’s kinda slow and people are not tipping… gotta be able to make a good call. Also look out for the milage cuz EBT (earn by time) 😂 will give you trips with long miles that ridiculously exceeds what they’re paying you. Ex 20 miles on trip 1 and 10 on trip 2 for $13.75 hr! The earn by time is new in my area. And it is currently $15 per hour in my zone. The other zones nearby are less ranging from $12.75 to $13.5. So it is nice living in an area with higher earn by time. But I learned to only do the earn by time when it is late at night. Because majority of the earn by time orders I have taken ends up no tipping me. Also the long drive thru lines when it is after 10 p.m. here. Because most restaurants close lobby by 10 p.m in my area. During the day I stick to earn by order. Or if I am in a different zone I stick to the earn by order unless the peak pay make the earn by time above $15 an hour.

I just talked to a guy in a gas station who delivered from Dallas to about an hour away towards Fort Worth. He said he made $100 with tips on that order for a Friday evening. However he wasn't taking advantage of the metroplex... Meaning he was heading back to his desired area but wasn't taking advantage of all the little cities in between on the way back. I pointed him to a hotspot nearby and he didn't care... He wasn't working that very well IMHO.

I am in Southwestern Pennsylvania. I have DoorDash in the Jefferson Hills area and I did Washington PA a couple times. My main area is south in the Charleroi/Monongahela. The problem is most of the restaurants are between Charleroi and Belle Vernon. And every single trip is in the residential areas and on average four or 5 miles. It’s just my zone. I have found the during the lunchtime, pay by time I earn more. I do the paid by order during dinner. The only exception is slow days like mid week is horrible. I will generally do strictly paid by time or hourly because it is so slow .

Iv been testing these to see wich is better and your most definitely right that earn my time gives you orders that are farther away and are less likely to tip and basically it all boils down to how many orders you do. Because you and how far you have to drive. But I have made $24 buy time and most iv ever made $23 my order in hr. So really it depends on how busy in the end it’s about the same

Here in Texas, there is no unlimited decline order for the “pay per order”, everytime I decline rather it is a emergency or simply because it is to far to drive 30 min for a $4 order. My acceptance rate is low but that is only because I want to stay in my area not pick up food I wait for 10 min then a 30 min drive to go across town. There is no 1 decline per hour offer either. Also I do not like when they put (guaranteed tip), the guarantee is a lie, because most times I do not get a tip.

Hourly rate in Columbia, SC is $14.50 per hour. Plus peak pay. Last week it was $21.50 to $24.50 per hour last night it was $19.50 per hour. Just decided to try Earn by time and so far I like it in my area. Also we have 2 declines per hour. Furthest distance has been 1O miles. I also live near a Busy area .

I’m in New Jersey, typically northern NJ or near the beach and my pay by time is usually $15.25 per hour but peak pay usually goes to $19 an hour

I live in Houston tx and everything is so spread out so I did earn by time. I’m a new dasher and started for my first day last night and I did 3 orders in 1hr and 20mins and made $17 with one person that didn’t tip me.

In Houston, i male now money by doing earn by order and it’s 2 declined when you do by time but you have to be on a task to make a full hour’s pay on time. Earn by order is definitely the way to go for me.

EBO is good after midnight here in Statesboro GA it’s only $10/hr but the fast food places are drive through only and take a looooong time to get through. If I’m out late I switch to PBO after midnight.

EBT advantage is your will get at least one or more slow restaurant . So if you’re were there waiting it takes a lot of stress off of dasher while waiting.

I live on Oahu and hourly is 14.25 and goes all the way up to 20. Hourly is pretty good if you’re gonna be sitting in traffic for the majority of the order

Can you “schedule” in earn by time? It seems like you have to cancel your scheduled dash to switch to earn by time and then if your area is not busy, you can’t dash

$15 an hour here in Virginia Beach/Chesapeake/Norfolk. However, I have seen it go lower down to $12 an hour. I do not usually go out then and I usually don’t go out when it’s $15 an hour. I have seen it go up to $29 an hour,. I saw that once. Most of the time it will go up to $21-$23 an hour.

Hey Mike I’ve been doing GH for < a week and I just noticed they do “missions” which seem like bonus pay…. Friday night 9pm it was a bonus of $8 when you complete 2 orders; you can’t skip any… Saturday 9am it was $4 bonus for completing 2 orders and today Sunday noon is $6 for completing 3 orders, not skipping any…. Does anyone else see this? I think my market is so short handed they’re doing this…. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ The only one that looked good to me was the $8….. am I too picky? You could get 2 awful orders that you have to do ☹️🥴

Lunch/Dinner earn per order in high commerical areas usually more tips/ plus stacked deliveries increasing odds of better tips. Late Night earn per hour might work slower orders but solid pay but usually more mileage/gas. One thing per orders have advantage is in hot spots with restaurant that prep orders really fast. ie Taco bell or sushi usually done in less then 5-10 mins from order vs slow prep/cook restaurants takes atleast 15min-30mins ie a busy WingStop or steak dinner.

Can actually take our time delivering, driving the speed limit(not driving all crazy like avoiding running over cats in quiet neighborhoods, blowing stop signs and some long ghost lights, passing slow drivers and , and... then flirting with the pretty girls at the counter till the food is ready. Just sitting back and enjoying the slow driving. That's what i would do at my hourly delivery job before doing Dd, getting $19 an hour in a company vehicle with a gas card. I'd chill taking my time unless i needed to get an urgent call done. Maybe thats why they let me go lol 😂😂😂

$13/hr on my zone. 12.50/hr in other zones around San Antonio. Peak pay has barely existed here for years. This is one of the cities where you are better off avoiding peak pay anyway.

Correct me if im wrong but does it log AR the same regardless of selecting either? If so I see hourly as a good way to grind AR, assuming you value keeping it at 50%+, using it especially on a slower day where its complete luck if you even see consistent orders let alone good ones, then if you want you could cherry pick a bit more aggressively on busy days.

I would like to know this. For the most part, I will not compromise my trip metrics. Since pay per hour started, my AR increased 6x, from 10% to 60%. Perhaps on a monday it might be worth to sit at home and try the pay per hour I've never done. Hmmmm. Probably not. I keep thinking of a way to make pay per hour worth it just so I can TRY it. But I'm never going to. Pay per order is simply for the person who wants to be in control of what they select.

Yes, I agree that it is low, too low. I live 30-40 minutes north of Charlotte so I make a lot less than I would if I lived in Charlotte. I’ve always chosen earn per order because what’s $11.25hr when that doesn’t include taxes, gas, ware and tare on my vehicle. We get promos every weekend, mostly the times people don’t want to be out. Our promos are anywhere from $1-3 on regular basis. If the weather is bad, we get bonuses that overlap bringing the total extra per hour to $6. But that doesn’t happen very often. Here lately, we haven’t been busy as we usually are, so I took a few weeks off due to only getting $2.25 & $3.50 orders. I enjoy watching you Driver Mike! You have taught me so much! Thank you :)

I multi app so always per order. 3 otters per hour pretty easy to do in Des Moines . So that would be $9 per hour @ $3 peak. I am very selective so I always get peak pay in a sense.

I live in Las Vegas and I think it's $15.65. I don't drive the Strip FYI... I drive off Strip and regular residential areas. Food deliveries on The Strip is a nightmare

I find that if you earn by time! That the system will kick you out if you decline the low ball orders 3 times in an hour. I had it done to me as soon as I logged in I get a $4.50 , $3.00, & a $5.00 oder all over a 7 mile distance! I declined them all, the system told my I had to earn by order, to continue. So I look at it as if you earn by time you are obligated to take those crappie orders! Not me, gas is $4.00 a gallon in upstate NY!

I think earn by order is better since earn by time is only for active time not for total time of dash. I would rather hope for good tips. Also you’re probably using more gas doing longer mileage orders on earn by time

In my area with earn by time I usually make good money, but then sometimes I will get an order that I lose money on. So you have to be careful and use that decline per hour if the trip is far away. Because they will give you a no tip order that is super far away and it will destroy your averages for the day and actually cost you more in gas than you make. Especially late at night. After 9pm I stop doing time pay because it is a guaranteed loss. It is very good for super busy days when the restaurant makes you wait forever. But not if you are waiting in drive thru idling for an hour.

@@jfast8256 Because when you do pay by time and it's super busy and you're waiting for 30 minutes at every restaurant then? It actually pays more to do earn by time but it's not like if you do buy the order and take all the orders that you won't get bad orders

@@justerick1364 If the restaurant wait time is 30 minutes, I just unassign it. Far better than taking no trip orders. Are you really sure you're waiting 30 minutes at every restaurant? My average wait time is less than 5 minutes.

i feel rushed in the suburbs on earn by order and feel fucked when i get $3-5$ and a lot less than 3 orders an hour. however. when im in the city downtown, this is not an issue.

I have a question if anyone can tell me if they have the same issue. My market is nyc usually I need to schedule my shifts cause of my AR is low no problem, for the schedule calendar the last day of the week the time always came out available to schedule at 3pm but so far for Thursday 4/27 and Friday 4/28 it never came out. Is anyone else noticing this or is it just me? Please help

Hi Mike, $14.75 in Virginia Beach.......one thing that is not being discussed......DD says that its $14.75 PLUS tips.......what they dont tell you is that going to give you the orders that "earn by order" dashers wont take....ie, the no tip or low tip orders......I will admit that my sample size is not huge however, I have taken enough "Pay by time" orders to notice a pattern, those orders have very low or no tips so i suspect that this is what is going on...... these orders have been sitting so DD has created a program to get them picked up.......pay people by time and give them no option to decline.......for this reason, I have concluded that Pay by time is not a good program, at least for me..............have you or anyone else noticed this

Exactly - my experience also. You will get the garbage EBO ppl reject - However, it can be a viable option IF there are not many dashers out/or very busy as you will get good orders with tips. (but you just can't really know for sure when those days are..) I've used EBT and it's just an issue of luck - sometimes most of my orders have some tip - other times half of my orders are no tips. The good orders are going to go to the EBO ppl first - if they are in the area. AR is important in my market - so I use EBT about once a month when my AR hits 70% to get it back up to around 80 or so - this gives me about a month of good orders/pay. - Yeah I have to take a few garbage orders, but no crap sandwich orders.

I've honestly made more from earn by order. You don't always get the full amount by time. You still have to do at least 3 nontip orders to get the full amount and if the restaurant or travel time is great you sometimes can only get 2 orders in a hour

That’s high! Here in Dallas it was $8/hour now it’s $10/hour. Most orders are complete garbage so earn by time is a terrible idea at $10/hour without being able to see if their is a tip or not. Prop 22 would be awesome if it became federal! Force doordash to pay drivers a reasonable amount.

Be careful what you ask for. We used to get a base pay of $6 and then tip. Easily. Are good money back then. But, someone hired a lawyer accusing DoorDash of "stealing tips", and that is why you now see the ridiculously low base pay. I'd rather they "steal the tips" and make the $25/hr I was making over the crap low base pay and $1-2 tip.

I did the earn by time during rush hour wouldn’t recommend. I am a new dasher I was only able to complete 3 orders in 2 hours because they was long distance with only one tip of $3.00 so I would do by order unless it’s slow which is the morning & late at night❗️💯

Tried earn by hour for a day worked 10 hours. Made $87 with $3 in tips and used around $40 in gas... so profited just over $40 for 10 hours of work...
