I forgot how simple cabinet making can be, it's been awhile since I've been in a shop. In HS our woods class would be hired to make bathroom vanities, & kitchen cabinets all the time. It was great for us, we got to learn new skills and they got a good product. Plus not all the kids could afford to build new project so this kept us busy. Also the extra money earned would go back into the wood shop program.

Big smile on my face thanks to Jacob's "squirt" comment! Someone wrote you are the best ppl on KZfaq, can't argue with that! Again, a lovely moment in my crazy life enjoying your joyous journey! PS, the kitchen is gorgeous, and I like the first choice of drawer pulls, the second looked dirty (sorry Jacob), and the last too square. Lastly, the background music really sets the tone for a calm episode in the midst of home construction, clever!

As a kitchen designer with a large retail chain, i can help you with that guess on what that would cost retail. painted shaker style with that many drawer units and all plywood construction, would probably run well north of 15k, plus around 2 to 3k for demo and installation, even more if its an actual remodel and you want to change the location of gas lines or plumbing fixtures. The cabinets look great, and you have the pride of doing it ALL yourself. Thats priceless.

I so love your choice of simple Shaker design in your cabinets - very smart. My vote is on the 3rd choice for the hardware - even though all are lovely. But there is something with the lines of the more square hardware that blends beautifully with the Shaker door fronts - NOT that you asked. Another fabulous video. I enjoyed with my monday afternoon glass of red watching your latest video - my new and delightful habit. Wonderful guys - thanks again.

ingenious drawer making methods. My only concern is the the soft woods used for drawer and door facing. In my experience, those surfaces take a beating and every contact is going to leave a mark in pine and poplar. That kind of wear may be part of your plan for all I know. Cheers!

Oh man this is hard! I think the Tiny House is perfect for singles or couples, but with kids inside all winter in Alaska (that lasts 8 months and can be -20F for weeks on end) having room for them to run and play is worth it. I'd imagine someday we will downsize.

If someone was to do your kitchen from Lowe's or home depot easily about 20-30,000 ridiculous. I myself prefer to do it myself custom. I designed my grandmother's kitchen a few years ago, I did not enlarge I just added more cabinets & instead of demolishing old cabinets that were there since 1953, I transferred to garage. Back in the day cabinets were made by hand not that particle board junk that is out there now. I used 3/4 plywood side to side & bottom is 3/4 as well than I put a sealer so all cabinets are uniform in color, than I stained oak color. I thank my grandfather that showed me the trade :). I like the handles on drawers very nice.

Wow, it's amazing to put $2,000 into what amounts to a custom kitchen... Paying a "professional" to put in a custom kitchen cabinets in this area you're looking at $14 to $20 grand! I probably would've splurged and put in soft close drawer slides and hinges, but even that wouldn't add much to the cost. Way cool. Congratulations, the kitchen is really taking shape! One question: why didn't you just make and install the wall cabinets at the same time? Thanks.

Ana, your favorite drawer-pull reminds me of fancy silver-ware, a high maintenance(?) polish but really draws the eye, on overview into the kitchen. Like it! Jacob's favorite drawer-pull is a clean-line classic beauty, looks low-maintenance from here. Like it, too! (That 3rd drawer-pull, though, close-up, looks like water should be coming out of it. 😶) Tough choice! (heck, I'm still enamoured with that self-cleaning toilet, so what do I know. LOL!)! p.s. that wasn't "John, Dear", was it? Was it?! Looks humongous next to Ana!

Cabinets look amazing! What are your thoughts on building drawers vs. the Blum setup for drawers that you've used in the past? Are they expensive, do they save much time compared to just building the box? -- p.s. - my vote is for Jacob's handle!

I'm absolutely in love with your kitchen! Not to mention the inspiration you provide all of us - thanks!! Just wanted to ask if you were going to have any plans for these cabinets on your website? Specifically the dimensions that you use to make the most out of the plywood (elevating them on 2x4s). I've got an island and a couple of cabinets to make, but am holding off in hopes that I can work from these plans.
