There was a time last year we didn't have electricity for 2 days, meaning no access to TV or internet. After those 2 days, I felt my focus & concentration has increased. I could put my mind into anything without getting lazy or distracted. That's when I realized dopamine fasting is real.

I think dopamine tolerance is the main cause of depression and laziness in teenagers. If I ever scroll through social media, when I am done, for the rest of the day everything seems boring and I am unmotivated. This needs to be spread to more teens.

So, basically... A dopamine detox or abstaining from a habit doesn't change who you are, but can help you have better self control in making decisions by building healthier habits. Abstaining from a certain activity is hard because of, "Withdrawal".

After that night out I literally didnt feel like going on the computer, watched videos that inspired me to do things in life. It's crazy but it's gone now which sucks.

Great Video! Can you also make a video on how to reward ourselves during the detox. I did the detox for one whole week and it went pretty well. But after that, I suddenly went back to all the habits that I took a detox from. I believe it's because I didn't plan a reward system.
@gisisse
@gisisse 4 жыл бұрын
Must admit that I went through such thing as dopamine detox a few months back when my phone reminded me that it has no wings and falling off the selfie stick (surprise surprise! It wasn’t used then to take a selfie but a huge panorama of a view out of the window on the first floor) straight onto concrete floor it ends with a “WHAT WAS THAT?!” From my Dad seeing “something just flying like a suicidal bird”... and then a few weeks later with no phone, no KZfaq on hand, no messenger etc. I really was a different person. Might have to reconsider such detox, just in a less expensive way than smashing a mobile (also, I’ve been a graphic design student with love for 🍏 products so you can imagine what phone was it...) onto a concrete slab... just actually to make a conscious decision myself to detox my life a little from technology.
@berenandluthien2826
@berenandluthien2826 3 жыл бұрын
The idea of the suicidal bird is so moving. Do you think it might happen sometimes? The heartbroken turtledove whose mate is lost just giving up flapping. The one-footed pigeon that steps under a bus. The mighty eagle when he realises he's going bald. It's so sad.

So basically the idea is to stop doing things that are counterproductive and destructive. If it takes calling this a "dopamine detox" to get people to do it, so be it. Ultimately though, you simply have to avoid those things that cause problems in your life on an ongoing basis or they will continue to cause problems in your life.

This is my way of doing it and I'm not gonna lie the hardest part is to do what's important for your life but don't give you dopamine burst e.g. study and the urge to play games and sliding social media creep up whenever you need to make decision... Step1: Remove social apps on phone Step2:Do the priority the hard work first and take a break once in a while Step3:Resist the desire to do what make you addict and spend a lot of time Step4:Repeat it Step5:Feel powerful and gain control of your life again

Great video. I am doing a dopamine detox cause I was addicted to gaming. When I stopped I felt more free than ever before. I am doing it a month right now it works very good for me. It is a seriously good idea to do something like this if you struggle with addictions like gaming.

I am happy for you. I’ve been a hardcore gaming addict but I’ve successfully quit for a few months and recently made the mistake of hopping on to play with my friends for what I thought would only be for 1 day only but then I slowly started getting back into gaming and now it’s hard to quit again. When you don’t play video games for long enough, you’ll stop getting the urge to play video games and it’ll no longer be an intrusive behavior in your life, I highly advise you not to touch video games at all after you quit it because you might see yourself come back to your bad habits

Wow, Top think team make such a interesting video- Dopamine Detox. I guess that most adolescents may want to try for the personal experiment. Because the dopamine is so, so important to regulate the human behavior and cognitive function...So I just trust in own central nervous system for this Dopamine Detox..

Videos actually partially wrong; it does actually increase pleasure from activites, not just the "action to do something that is enticing us" this is beucase of homeostasis; whenever u engage in a highly stimulating reward, like porn or video games or even cocaine; over exposure to these things arent just "cues" from dopamine, the actual enjoyment from doing them, after a while decreases, so u feel an increase to do them, but the reward feels lessened, thats because your nuerotransmitters have downregulated dopamine (think about blood glucose sensitvity) once you have downregulated dopmaine, normal things that stimulate normal people, will be less stimulating for you, and that cycle goes on and on, but most people however, dont go crazy and indulge in more and more hardcore things, they instead repeat the cycle of their normal stimulating acitvites, and then they find other areas of their life unrewarding, becuase their dopmaine is less sensitive (when you abstain from things you enjoy, ur body will crave more and more, eventually it will spring new "dopamine transporters" and that means that ur body will latch onto dopamine from any activity that is even mildly enjoyable, and make it more enjoyable.

Could I ask you a question because I might have something similar ? I used to love watching movies, playing games but due to excessive porn consumption, I began to lose interest in them and can't enjoy them anymore. Would I recover If I did a dopamine detox ? Please reply when possible because you may improve my life depending on your answer.

Know your triggers avoid, them think of consequences and why you like it, too. find a sponsor. make that FIRM decision to quit. Set a quit date. Cut back until then or go cold turkey. Your recovery actually starts then. Ride that wave of the urge...it goes away. Distract yourself from the thought of the drug\high. Take a deep breath, and meditate. Slow down. Instead, think of your feelings or thoughts when a craving occurs. Go to AA, NA, or support group meetings and set that goal. Feel good about abstinence and that success. Find a hobby or alternative action. avoid temptation. forget that high. don't be too tough on yourself if you...relapse. Remember your quit date. Be proud of it. Tell friends and family for support. You may want a fiduciary. Or hide the money in a savings account from yourself. May have to avoid certain friends or places. Lead a balanced life.. planning, work, food and hydration, good sleep, exercise, interaction, relaxation, entertainment, alone time, hobbies, reading, and rest. Accept my prayer. Quit it!! You can do it.
