Watch Doreen’s story. Doreen is a patient with alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency. Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency is genetic COPD, also known as AAT deficiency or alpha-1. Doreen was diagnosed with alpha-1 nearly 20 years ago, but her story starts well before then. Eight years before her alpha-1 diagnosis, she began to have trouble breathing. Over the years, Doreen visited doctors for bronchitis and asthma. She suspected there may be more to uncover as she continued to have difficulty breathing-even with treatment. Doreen continued to push for answers and was ultimately referred to the doctor who would screen her for alpha-1. From that point on, Doreen knew she wanted to help others who might have alpha-1 and continues to advocate for patients with alpha-1 and screening for alpha-1.
