How is 1700 for just a bedroom affordable? At that price, might as well get a studio

Believe it or not it is in Boston. I have a studio in the city and I pay $1300 for it, and is in the cheap side for the location as I’m close to a few T stations.

How about more laws limiting investment properties? So many homes and apartments are bought by foreign buyers and investment funds with cash payments, and most countries put road blocks in place for these type of buyers, we do not. We should stop catering to people who do not even live here and are just taking up housing as an investment vehicle when actual residents are struggling to compete in the market for the left overs.

it’ll only be affordable for a little while. they filled an old redeveloped mall in downtown providence with furnished micro apartments (no kitchen, microwave only) those apartments were originally $500 but the price didn’t stay so cheap… rent very quickly shot up past $1000.

Perhaps it's a case of what's old becoming new again. At one time there were loads of what became known as SRO (single room occupancy) hotels prevalent in our cities before zoning laws and negative images ate away at them. With the current housing crisis they need to be brought back. While each room can only hold one person, at least it's a start. We need to realize that such barbaric housing costs are a huge drag on the rest of the economy.

@@REALChannel99 Exactly and then when there is a market collapse like 2008 all of a sudden all those homeowners who voted against new housing because they wanted to inflate thier housing prices get wiped out and they complain that they can't retire and we have to bail out the banks as the homeowners foreclosed. If we stop trying to create artificial shortages then we won't have housing bubbles and housing will become cheaper. Plus all of the money people would have spent saving for a home would be able to go to more productive uses like investment in healthcare or green energy or something else. By the way I was reading that the Dallas Federal Reserve is expecting a "market correction" I.E Crash. So if you're in the market to own a house you'd do better to wait and not get hung out to dry like 2008

what has been done for social housing I can tell you it's scary when you come into the kitchen for a cup of coffee and another occupant threatens you and tells you to leave the kitchen because he is cooking and he has a butcher knife in his hand! Another time another tenant had a guest overdose and die, and he carried her out in a bed sheet and dropped her in the back alley to be found. The difference is money. If there was a basic income for everyone this might be a workable solution. This might be an option for people to cohabitate.

Or return to the apartment hotels of New York City, really grand buildings where one had living space and one one's own bath but no need for a kitchen as there was a proper dining room on the first floor. Both I and one of my friends lived in two distinct buildings that once had this floor plan and I believe we should return to the style for singles. There are actually a few new buildings in San Francisco's Rincon area that are taking up this floor plan in brand-new buildings. Given restaurants and food delivery, a rooftop deck to socialize and even host parties, gyms on premises... Why does everyone need a kitchen when you have wonderful city life?
