For the past few months I've been hearing a rumor that the old and out of use track to the Certainteed factory in Norwood, MA may be reactivated/restored. Last used sometime in 2021 the line was sparingly used then but only a short time before was used to bring raw materials in and send finished shingles out. The track was out of service already but then a truck hit the Morse St. overhead bridge, pushing it off its abutments. As a result of that a crane was brought in and lifted the bridge off the abutments and placed it on the tracks aside the under grade road. Even after the bridge was removed the rumor persisted and word is now that the bridge will be put back but raised to allow lager vehicles to pass under. This would allow service to be restored but whether it will actually happen is yet to be seen. This video follows the almost 2 mile spur from Norwood Central Station down to the Certainteed plant and end of track, showing current conditions with a focus on the Morse St. bridge. Stay tuned to see if this track is put to use.
