Here's all my best Dos and Donts of statement jewelry. I'll give you my tips on how to choose, style, and wear your chunky necklaces, bold earrings and stacked bracelets with confidence. Style is about having fun, but you don't want to accidentally end up looking frumpy or old when choosing these bigger pieces of jewelry. What's a do? What's a don't? Let's talk!

I'm all about big statement jewellery, so this video is right up my alley! You have a wonderful collection, Diana. One thing you didn't mention: brooches! They can be so much fun to wear, whether grouped together by theme or colour, or appearing in unusual places, such as across a shoulder and down a sleeve, for example. Or at the wrists like cufflinks. Or holding a cardigan together, or adorning a soft belt... The possibilities are endless!

Yes great idea! I think we should do a whole video on brooches!

I wonder if, for some, it isn’t easy to tell the difference between real and fake materials. I agree, real makes a big difference even though it’s a small detail. Your jewelry is beautiful!

Yes that's probably it, and I probably should have done a demonstration on the sound of stone vs plastic.

@@unblahyourself i love hunting for special or vintage pieces second hand and knowing how to recognize natural materials, real Pearl, real Coral, real Stone, silver, etc really is a skill. Maybe that could be a video idea?

I love the gold mesh necklace. I have so many statement earrings I have made with real stones. They make me feel fancy/casual! But most of all, I love your videos!

Good point about the real stones, Diana. Maybe some folks don't realize that you can get very nice gemstones as well as gorgeous glass beads at a good bead store and string them yourself waaaaaaay cheaper than buying pre-made pieces. Most bead stores also offer in-person classes, if KZfaq is not enough training. Making your own jewelry is fun and easy...and a little addictive.

That is so true! I should probably do a video where I go bead shopping and make myself a bracelet. I'm a bit of a bead addict myself. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

Artistic and unique, you look great! Bakelite is plastic, however looks good, it’s expensive though. I prefer stones and amber😊

Yes I love the feel and weight of real stones. Amber confuses me because it looks like stone but it's actually quite light. I'm not really a fan of plastic or bakelite but I have a friend with a metal allergy who always wears them and looks fantastic.

I love your homemade real-stone pieces! I've got a red and white piece I strung together with red coral and I forget what the white pieces are now. My very favorite homemade necklace, I get so many compliments on: it's a very simple, basic purchased piece with small gray glass beads and a big gray (pewter?) circle that's kind of skinny on the top, fat on the bottom -- that was the necklace that I owned for years and never wore. It was too boring. So...I got a new job...and wanted to find a good stone to wear for the new job. Went to the rock store and found an oval Amazonite, which is kind of turquoisey-green, and wrapped that in copper wire and hung it on the pewter and gray necklace. Bingo! But that wasn't all: I have a gorgeous Royston Mine turquoise ring from a jeweler who used to be on Etsy, and then at that same rock shop I bought a small bag of Royston Mine raw turquoise chunks. I picked one and wrapped it in copper wire and hung it next to the Amazonite, which dangles next to the gray circle, and bam! I wear this necklace in the cooler temperatures with a v-neck gray (plain) cashmere baggy sweater and jeans and a men's blazer. Recently I bought a string of "saltwater pearls" from Goodwill, paid a tidy little fortune for them, they're slightly yellow, and I love your pearl necklaces idea. I've got a destroyed Levi's jacket and a skirt and top -- and another very cheap string of pearls that I'll probably layer on with the "saltwater pearls." Great stuff! Love your tourmaline necklace. I can't stand anything plastic worn as "jewelry."

A nice floral statement necklace is a close cousin to a floral scarf, in my opinion. I’m keeping several for when they come back into style any minute now!
