It was. It wasn't like a soap at all. It reminded me of the brilliant TV plays they used to have in the 1970s. In fact, this was well good enough to stand as a stand-alone play. The bit when Dot talks about her time in Wales, her fears of death and salvation, and her abortion almost had me in tears. But still it was hilarious in places!

Back in the day when Eastenders had good actors, good scripts and was worth watching. I'd sooner run a mile than watch an episode today.

If you are asking about Ethel (Gretchen Franklin) she is unfortunatley dead. She died in 2005 shortly after her 94th birthday.

No she is not dead infact only about 3 members of the show are dead in real life most of the cast from back in the day are in there 90's and still alive
