Totally new to these -productivity apps and tech, as I have gone from high action careers, to a more " tech sitting" you tube career I'm starting. So, it seems I'm forced to learn 7 ? New careers at once. YOU my northern neighbor are making this transition a Ton easier and more understandable. Much appreciated!. Thank you for all your hard work!!

I like Slack. It’s a refreshing change from bloated email threads. But I’ve never had an opportunity to use Slack consistently. That notwithstanding, I’d be worried that it aggravates what Cal Newport calls the “hyperactive hive mind.” Maybe this is a topic for a separate KZfaq video-tools that minimize unscheduled, unstructured communications and maximize focus and productivity. Grey Wave maybe?

slack is really good if you're using the paid version but if you're using free version and you reach the 10k message limit, older messages will be archived, same with the files too to make room for new ones.

Right, but this could be a plus. If a company is sued, they usually subpoena all emails. If you use free slack, then your old messages are gone.

This was very helpful; thank you! I'm wondering how it works to have group huddles! Haven't found videos specifically pointing out the flow of that. If you start a huddle in a channel, can people see the active huddle when they go there and join without an invite? Thank you!!

Thank you so much for this awesome video! Do you know if you can forward messages in Slack from one group to another? We make deliveries and take pictures of our deliveries using Google chat, spaces but there is not a good way to forward those pictures to our subcontractors to let them know that a job is ready. We basically have to take screenshots on our phone and then text them out a different way. If there’s a way to go inside Slack to receive pictures and text message and then forward that message to another account or another room or whatever it would be called that would be awesome but I have not found any information showing that capability.

I love using slack in the workplace. Part of the issue is initiating new team members into the ins/outs of how to use slack-any chance you could do a detailed video, or multi-part series on all of these useful features?

I'd be interested to know how Slack compares to Teams feature by feature. Nearly all my clients use Teams already and Teams seems to be able to do almost everything that Slack can do.

I see you have multiple workspaces. Is there a way to group or sort these? I work for a company that contracts with 50+ client companies that we need channels within their workspaces. Can I group the workspaces so I can navigate the list better? (think iphone app groups)

We use a free slack account for managing our large corporate events. During each event, I have to send out multiple messages to multiple channels and it takes a ton of time. I've tried to use the message scheduler but am finding it really challenging. I'm not sure if it's because we aren't paying for a certain app/upgrade or because I'm doing something wrong, but would LOVE to learn and see more about that very useful feature! Thanks in advance.

I have mixed feelings about Slack: - the flow of emails that I avoid (especially internally) is replaced by a flow of continuous notifications... - e-mail allows me to manage my work asynchronously. Where Slack acts like a walkie-talkie: everyone wants their answer right away. So YES, Slack can reduce the number of emails exchanged...but at what cost?

I LOVE Slack. We have used it in the University for a few years But there is a push to go towards a Google platform. What do you think? Can you do a comparison? I don't mind if Google brings Slack into the fold.

We used slack extensively when my husband first launched his web design business, but we kept running into difficulties on communicating with clients. We don’t want clients who will be around for 12 weeks to pay for slack, but there were always complications where they could not use the free version. Or maybe they weren’t setting it up correctly. Do you have any thoughts about that? We had to stop using it and go back to email solely because of that. And honestly my ADHD brain absolutely hates email, so I stopped helping my husband. His business it’s fine without me… But it’s expanding. More team members, more clients… All in email. But if there’s an EASY way to allow clients to use a private channel for updates on their project for the minimal time we chat with them, WITHOUT signing up for a paid account, I’d love to hear it.

Yes, it's called a guest account, and they can only enter a single channel, however you can also put them into direct messages. You can do this for as many people as you want.

Other things you can do with Slack. 1. Mark a message as unread. Perfect for when you read something but realize you want to look into it more carefully later. 2. Google calendar integration so that people on Slack can see that you're currently in a meeting. 3. /Remind me This commands is great and flexible and you can quickly type something like /remind me tomorrow before lunch to eat something. The next day before lunch, Slackbot will message you with the text "eat something". /Remind me in two hours, next week etc all works. 4. Custom Emoji You can add your own emojis if you want. At my workplace everyone has a custom Emoji with their face and a thumbs up. 5. /Giphy amazed The Giphy integration takes Emoji response to the next level. You can type /Giphy [anything] to find an appropriate gif animation to use as a response. Use with caution in channels as it can be spammy. Best suited for threaded comments. 6. Do not sleep on the search function. As seen in the video you can search for files from someone but expanding the search filter pane you can also search for the combination of two words that was probably said by one of two people at some point. I've been able to find so many unique threads and conversations this way which in turn means I can dig up just about any reference, document or link no matter how old. 7. Learn to use the top left views. Threads, direct message etc. At first they can seem somewhat unorganized but after getting the hang off it they become very powerful. Since getting the hang of these I can clear out Slack notifications much faster which means I can get back to work that much faster. I really like Slack as you can tell. They got it right :)
