I'm subscribed to around 800 channels - this one is my favourite hands down and I've never even done bodywork on a car before, though I'm gathering all the tools and equipment to follow in your footsteps. Very VERY inspiring, perfectly explained and I love the music and the editing as well, really top notch!

These videos are excellent! The explanation of the tension in the sheet caused by the quilting in the center versus the untouched frame makes sense. There is too much material remaining in the frame. The dimple die helps absorb or consume the surplus material in the frame. I’m starting to do more sheet metal forming so watching these videos is so helpful. I can go down to my own shop and put my hands on the material and it all makes sense much quicker.

Well done Karl. As a beadrolling artist myself I appreciate the different ways other people choose to make panels. I love the dimpling idea. I will certainly be trying to incorporate that into some of my panels. I like to run multiple passes when beadrolling. It seems to stretch it slowly and keep the taco effect down. It will still warp a touch but not nearly as bad as doing full pressure in 1 pass.

That is GENIOUS. I never even thought about using my air hammer. Holy cow. It made all the different using a jig. Last time I did any of this I used wood though. Which didn't turn out the flattest pieces. But the price of metals today would make that so much more expensive. And man, I need to get a Tig welder so bad. Them door panels are gorgeous.

I ‘stalled’ in watching this video as I was working last night. Just watched it and super impressed AGAIN by Karl’s skills, Knowledge and instructional ability. Even ‘shy’ Karl comes over as above.. Karl you are a natural and I now have someone to blame for stalling getting my own ‘Boogie Van’ back up and do running.. I just ‘need’ a bead roller and some time practising… ‘quilted panels’ are the future….. like garlic bread…

A slip roller would also get a lot of the curve out from the bead roller to. I did this with parts that got curved from a strippit punch. Works great for me. Another great video Karl. 👍👍

Karl, your videos are just awesome! Your talent for metalworking is incredible and it's clear you really enjoy what you do. The cherry on the sundae is your willingness to share your knowledge: you explain not only what you're doing but why you do it and how it works that way. I've watched a bunch of your videos and shared some of the concepts with my guys in the shop. Working in the military, we don't do full resto or fab projects but there are frequently opportunities to straighten this piece or that and weld for a less costly or sooner repair.

Afternoon Karl, out of your videos that I've watched, the hammer form video, related to me, because I don't have a shop full of metal working equipment, I have a box brake, bead roller, you get the picture..from your video I know I can make body mount parts quite easily.....but quite honestly, my favorite part of your video was your explanation of your bead rolling wheels, I can do basic bead rolling, but now I'm ready to move on to some more intricate stuff... awesome!!! Be safe!! God Bless!!!

THIS MIGHT BE LONG BUT WANT TO SHOW SOME LOVE. For all you do!!! “Why would I make a body mount for a square body Chev, that you can buy for $30?”…. I say to doubters, naysayers or just plain haters…. “WHY NOT!” I myself LOVE the sense of accomplishment and pride that comes with building something with your hands. Something you maybe designed and thought up on your own. Or is a solution to a problem such as the body mounts themselves. (Logistics & low quality) So yeah there’s nothing like building/fabing/modifying those things on your own. Even if the part already exists. As I said I LOVE IT as I’m SURE you do yourself Mr. JapHands aka Mr. Make It Kustom GOOD STUFF! Inspiring! Motivating! And nice to see how far you have come since the early days of making videos. You have gotten more comfortable in front of the camera. The quality of the videos are better all the way around. But the passion and pride in your work was there back then. But it shows you just wanted to help others out there get the knowledge, skills and confidence to go out and give it a shot themselves!!! Well done keep it up and I’ll be here to continue watching and supporting my man!!!

Back in 79' I was working repairing a couple of 90' aluminum landing craft/tugs that worked the North Slope. They were really fatigued and had a lot of previous crack repairs. Where the wheelhouse and deckhouse attached to the deck was also the juncture of the wing tanks and engine room bulkheads creating a real hard spot. The wing tank bulkheads (fuel oil/bunkers) had obviously repeatedly cracked out where they met the deck plating and it had a multi-pass weld that had a triangular cross section of about 4" X 4" with dozens and dozens of passes. Prior to the repairs, the tanks were air tested with about a 0.5 psi and at the end of this multi-pass weld was a crater that was spewing air. Basically, the fuel, and/or water, that was with the crack was flashing into steam and it would blow out and leave a crater at the end of a pass. I had a great guy working with me that had worked Todd's shipyard during WWII (he was about 6 months away from his Boilermaker retirement) and he had me grind a ball point of about a 3/16" radius on the end of an air hammer. He referred to it as a "bobbing tool" and when I "bobbed" the porosity at the end of the weld crater I was able to put a spot of weld over it and seal it. The bobbing tool had upset the hole and sealed it up so it didn't blow back out when welding it. I repaired those boats for a few more years and always used this technique to good effect.

Two very instructive videos, and the timing was perfect. The other day, I got in a hurry while welding up a transmission table to mount into the receptacle of my floor jack, to do a one time job. I was welding the thing out of scrap, and was filling a 6" by 6", 16 gauge hole in the middle of the table, and because I was in a hurry, I warped it. Now, just for the experience, I am going to use my air hammer to stretch it back into shape. It should be fun, thanks for the tip.
