the imperial eagle is the historical example of the "Cool S" we all drew in school. Its universal not for any occult or secretative conspiracy, but because we all universally think those symbols are just plain cool as hell.

I think it also serves an artistic feature. Aside from the head every part of an eagle can be symmetrical, but by adding a second head the eagle becomes completely symmetrical. It also gets rid of a bit of blank space opposite to whichever way the eagle’s head points.

I have thought about this before. I think understanding history can be made clearer when we think of our impulses as kids. High school cliques, or kids starting a "club" have the same basic impulses that drive businesses and empires. Not a complete picture of course, but it does seem to distill and clarify otherwise opaque and complicated history.

Ok that's it, that did it, best channel on KZfaq right now. I'll take 1 hour videos three times a year this well researched over almost daily 20min videos about things that could be explained in 3 minutes. And this one covered absolutely all of my biggest interests, it's insane: zoology, heraldry, symbolism, byzantines, Spanish empire... It's totally one of those rabbit holes that start with an extremely specific question in my mind have have me opening 30 tabs on my phone that later take me one whole day to go through, the difference being that you actually have the talent to turn that into a wonderful video like this one. Congratulations.

Something of note to mention is that the Holy Roman Emperors actually used a single headed eagle on a golden/yellow field up until around the 1400s when the Habsburgs became emperors and their coat of arms changed to be a double headed eagle instead. I’m not sure what to make of that information but it’s there. Edit: never mind this was addressed in the video

The double eagle head has just the meaning the bearer wants it to have, as its so old and widespread its original meaning does not matter anymore, just what we do with it. Aguilar(Eagle) translation into French is Aiguille (Needle/Arrow), I believe the triple circles on the double eagle heads is the Trinity, Norse symbol for Trinity. In the north of north America, Canada, where I live, the stones all have the old heraldry still on them, I've even found engraved quartz crystals you can examine for images if you illuminate them with a flashlight. Great channel, you helped me big time. The crown is the Arc of the covenant with the body of Christ, when the stones are placed in the crown of Gold, the stones can vibrate the soft gold, vibrating the head to make proper decisions like a clock runs on piezoelectricity, so do we. Amazing work, by the way at 1:07:12 - it wasn't Napoleon dissolving the HRE, it was the Habsburgs not trusting the electors and trying to deny Napoleon that title and everything that it implies. That's well known historical fact, not sure how you could get that wrong. I enjoyed the rest very much though, thanks for this interesting production. Double headed eagles are just an awesome symbol/meme, I reckon for all of humanity during the ages. Its worldwide adoption probably is that simple. Especially after being minted on coins.

fantastic work. Thank You. I offer a hypothesis of sorts. The followers of "Janus". Pre-Genoese, pre-Roman. Merchants -Portugal to Constantinople and beyond. I think in a larger sense it became associated with "organizations" that offer services and quality known throughout the world's ports. In some cases even borrowed into cultures to exemplify certain qualities and stature. Much like the swastika was long used as a symbol for luck and quality before becoming part of a negative group. This Janus duality double headed symbol combined with the eagle in Rome and the griffin in other areas, birthed a dual headed symbol going forward. These merchants moved into politics and into world domination in shipping and finance. which is why the symbol transcends borders sometimes inexplicably. They say follow the money, in this case follow the silk road and its predecessors. Keep in mind that whomever funds the new king's rise to power cares more for the symbol on the banner than the king himself.

People don’t understand just how important symbols are to those in power. They don’t just randomly choose their logos, it is a very expensive and thorough design process to ensure the design expresses the owner’s intent. There is no such thing as coincidence when it comes to symbolism in royal, state, or corporate heraldry and logos.

The quote at 55:50 is missing important context. The Pope made this statement as a response to the expropriation of the title Universal Bishop by Bishop John the Faster, the patriarch of Constantinople, who proclaimed himself Universal Bishop at the Synod of Constantinople in 588. Gregory condemned the patriarch's act because universal jurisdiction applies solely to the pope

Shocking historical fact: Mehmet 2nd was a 3d cousin once removed to Constantine Xi last emperor of the Roman empire 😱😨 Theodora Kantakouzene (Greek: Θεοδώρα Καντακουζηνή; c. 1330 - c. 1396, called also Theodora Hatun) was a Byzantine princess, the daughter of Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos and the second legal wife of the Ottoman Sultan Orhan Gazi. The relationship between Mehmed II and Constantine XI, given their shared ancestry through John VI Kantakouzenos, is somewhat distant and complex. Here's a simplified breakdown: John VI Kantakouzenos is the common ancestor. Theodora Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Mehmed II's great-grandmother. Helena Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Constantine XI's grandmother. In terms of specific terminology: Mehmed II and Constantine XI would be something akin to "third cousins" because they share a great-great-grandfather (John VI Kantakouzenos). More precisely: Mehmed II is a great-grandson of John VI through Theodora. Constantine XI is a great-great-grandson of John VI through Helena. In this case, the relationship could be described as "third cousins" or more specifically "third cousins once removed" due to the generational difference. that connection is indeed fascinating. The intertwining of Byzantine and Ottoman lineages adds a remarkable dimension to the historical events surrounding the fall of Constantinople. Here is a simplified outline of their connection: John VI Kantakouzenos (Theodora Kantakouzene's father and Byzantine Emperor) Theodora Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, married to Sultan Orhan I) Şehzade Halil (Theodora and Orhan I's son) Mehmed II (Grandson of Orhan I, through another lineage, but influenced by the shared familial ties) Simultaneously: John VI Kantakouzenos (Ancestor of Constantine XI) Helena Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, sister of Theodora, married to John V Palaiologos) Manuel II Palaiologos (Son of John V and Helena) Constantine XI Palaiologos (Son of Manuel II, the last Byzantine Emperor) This intricate web of familial ties underscores the complex and often intertwined nature of dynastic politics in the medieval period. Yes, Theodora Kantakouzene's father, John VI Kantakouzenos, was an ancestor of Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Byzantine emperor. Here's the lineage: John VI Kantakouzenos: Theodora's father, who was Byzantine Emperor from 1347 to 1354. Helena Kantakouzene: John VI's daughter (and Theodora's sister), married John V Palaiologos. Manuel II Palaiologos: Son of John V Palaiologos and Helena Kantakouzene. Constantine XI Palaiologos: Son of Manuel II Palaiologos and the last Byzantine Emperor. This makes John VI Kantakouzenos the great-grandfather of Constantine XI Palaiologos. Thus, Theodora Kantakouzene was the great-aunt of Constantine XI.

in modern Greece the double-headed eagle on a yellow background is the flag/seal of the Greek army, it is a flag /symbol of the Greek Orthodox Church and generally something of a national flag, as well as the flag/symbol of the Greek sports clubs AEK and PAOK which have their roots from Constantinople before populations exchange. The double-headed eagle appears in many areas of culture.

The symbol of Trivalia so called was symbol of Serbia for many centuries especially depicting Servian lands in the territory of Austria-Hungary Empire. And the boar was on the first modern flag of Serbia after the uprising in 1804. So amazing to know how it had relevance in history and mythology even though it was accidental ❤

It’s interesting to think about how their perception of the past was shaped by the world of their here and now. They didn’t seem to have the knowledge or come to of different trends of different times the way we do now

“Ok bro, you know how cool eagles are?!” “Yeah, sure bro.” “Well bro, what if we gave the eagle two heads now?!” “Bro.” 😮

The doubled headed eagle was a Mycenaean symbol and exhibits in the archaeological museum of Athens. Eagle was the symbol of Zeus and it was on all Ancient Greek coins of Alexander the Great before adopted by Romans.

Wow! This is not a subject that I have considered for a couple decades. Back then I settled on the understanding that the double-headed eagle originated in Phrygia and that all who used it afterward did so in remembrance of Phrygia, much the same as the Phrygian cap and Mithras, which are also popular symbols/sigils. I had no idea that the double-headed eagle was fashionable in the east too, well excluding Russia, which has practically circled the globe, making an east-west distinction meaningless, I remember Guruda (a big, single-headed eagle) and Narahimsa taking out Hiranyakshipu in Indian lore, but not Gandaberunda taking out Sharabha. Maybe I was distracted while reading that story. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the really interesting content and your sense of humor. Hey, why does the medallion @33:00 symbolize demonetization of this video? I don't get the joke. Duh!

I've read an article about them that said that the "two-headed" reconstructions are wrong, so decided not to include them.

The first symbol of eagle had been found on a bronze flag in Shahdad, Kerman (Iran) during the 1970's excavations by late Pro. Ali Hakemi. This flag has been documented extensively.

I know this is outside of your channel but you should read Carl Jung's man and his symbols. Main argument is that humans share a some amount of subconscioussness and that's why same themes and symbols reoccur different parts of the world
