This lesson with Josh Manuel is all about working on your double pedal technique and it's a doozy. By letting both feet lead as well as isolating the right and left kick pedal independently, we quickly notice weaknesses in our playing and strengthen any lack of control. This is a great lesson to increase speed, control, independence, power and agility because of the variations in time and space. Go slow, count out loud and let both foot take the lead. Remember to isolate the foot that needs the most work and push yourself to stomp out any discomfort. You've got this!

The importance of just playing the left foot cannot be understated. When playing fast 16th, you need to be able to mentally focus on it. Your 16th can't be clean if you aren't conscious about how accurate the movement of your left foot is. Also, you'll get extra mileage by playing the hihat pedal on the upbeat 16ths while keeping a straight 8th note leading hand on another cymbal. Add a backbeat and kick pattern, and you got yourself a killing groove.

I am a self taught drummer and play a lot of double bass and when I started I used to lead with left or right depending on what I was doing on the double bass. It was actually a bad habit that I developed. I ended up working through it and now I can lead with both at any time. It's all about practicing and developing the weaker leg - making the unnatural feel natural through practice.

The hardest part for me, is the speed mixed with... spurts (...???) (I'm self taught and never really paid attention to terminology) Example: the intro of Death's Hand by the Amity Affliction
