John, regarding the brooch, back in the day, they didmount diamonds in sterling silver. Maybe late 1800/ early 1900's. Check to see if itis silver. Deserves a trip to a jeweler. Great videos, though!

One way of telling is to use a magnet. Precious metals are not magnetized. I use one when I’m thrifting, the only thing with that is that Rhodium blocks the silver from being detected. I make jewelry so I’m always looking too! Hi from Toronto!

Highly recommend taking the Shiney stone to a jeweler (local is best) who can look at it in their spectrometer. It may not be a diamond (I doubt it is from the prongs and back), but it might be a spinel. It's very pretty. 😊

Great day! I would get the brooch tested maybe the museum would help out. But as you say the setting is not indicative of a Diamond the stone settings are usually open backed. The Lump of lead may be a plumb bob, for leveling it would have had a loop inserted which may have rotted/ rusted away, maybe marked with an owners initial, or E for engineers. The circular brooch could be a plaid brooch for a womans dress plaid rather than a heavy duty plaid. All things Scottish were popular in Victorian times.

Well my good Scottish friend I did some computer image processing on your button and you're spot on... By combining a few frames with different incident light, it clearly says Firman & Sons Ld. Warwick St, Regent St. And as you saw London is in the centre. There is also probably a number before Warwick. Brilliant diamond by the way. Easy to test and a good jeweller will give it a grade and colour but it looks amazing. Lovely cut.

Still can’t believe how many coins you find and always enjoy a good bag seal. I did a little research and the coin at 35:00 looks like a 1835 British-East India one quarter Anna. It may be a half Anna as well. You can just barely make out the date at the bottom center and the two lions like you noticed. The swirls right above the date also match up. On the other side, you can barely make out part of the wreath in the top right. I'm almost certain this is what you found.

I think 31:13 is an annular buckle, John, also take a look at 39:13 and it may be my imagination, but I see purposely incised eyes above the top, line, with a face below. I've stared at it for some time now and almost convinced myself that under the bottom line, there's a grinning character with a serious bearded man below and a bear about to bite his outstretched arm, while at the base, there's either a devil monkey dragon with a three fang grimace, or a lion with advanced gum disease. Probably not, but FLO will know, eh? The Peace Havens Project can possibly tell you the name of the guy who pressed the seal at 39:44 Rock on.

Hey John, thanks for sharing your cracking good session. I have a quick question. On copper coins or suchlike that are pretty toasty, would sprinkling or dusting a little corn starch (body powder) on it help bring out the detail? That way when you try the bendy thumb on them, it has more contrast than brown dirt on a brownish coin? Sorry if it's a dumb idea, I am a noob to metal detecting.

I’m writing this as I watch, so I don’t know what you come up with at the round up/cleanup at the end of your video. 6:17 That could be lead from a window (something arched). So far, you’ve found a chunk of lead an an old piece of pottery. Good signs that there was occupation there. 😊 7:58 I love the British and Scottish history. Thank you for these little interludes. That’s what makes this enjoyable for me. I also love that you detect over such ancient land. It’s really exciting because you never know what you could find! I think to find older relics, such as artifacts older than the year of our LORD- more than 2,000 years ago, you would need to dig much deeper and more towards the coast where people had their homes and businesses for trade. 12:40 Amazing! 🎉 Do you ever make impressions from the coins you find and mint some new ones? They would make cool rings or bracelets. 16:52 You are spot on! Anything older than Victorian and even Art Deco. I would agree with you, though- probably an Edwardian buckle, hair pin or brooch. I think it would looks more Art Deco, maybe when the Depression would be greatest- people could have had that done by fine jewelry maker and had it plated with gold. Gold is very soft, so it would bend. That looks like a utilitarian piece of jewelry, and it could have helped fasten gowns or fur stoles. A large diamond with that type of filigree work would typically be set in platinum and be surrounded by other smaller diamonds. Hope it’s authentic. Those older diamonds cannot be mined anymore. If a tractor or other trauma were to have befallen upon your bejeweled object, the value would go down, but never sell them. They just increase in value. 🥰 I think you have a nice voice to fall asleep to, John, but this video did not help me. 😅 Every two minutes we got to see something fun. 30:42 That could be Viking or Roman, for sure. It could be a cape brooch or military decoration. Can’t wait for updates!

One way to check and see if it’s a diamond is to look at it under 10x-30x magnification and see if you can see any black inclusions in it if so it’s a diamond I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be a white sapphire great 2nd half of a day comgrats and thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

That stone is not 1.5 carats. It’s a marquise that can look larger because it’s longer People who think it’s cubic zirconia you do know that’s a relative newer process. I do wish you luck and hope it’s a diamond. Sometimes a hundred years ago diamonds were sometimes put in silver, so that alone does not deter from the fact it could be a diamond. Best of luck!
