By far the best explanation on how to properly play a double stroke roll I've ever seen. Thanx Mr. Terrana, you're not only an excellent drummer but also an excellent teacher.

Absolutely LOVE you Mike!!! I teach youngsters in my hometown of Jacksonville, Fl and I have been trying to come up with ways to explain proper stick technique and you did it in under 10 minutes. I'm going to have all my students watch this video and more. Also love your other videos and covers. Thanks brother.

Mike, I saw you doing a clinic at Wacken open Air an eternity ago and then met you in a bar in Hamburg and you've been my absolute favourite drummer ever since. I had to take a 10 year break from drumming because of some trouble with a leg injury and then not having a practice space and just got back into it a year ago and discovering your sinfonica album and watching your videos has been the greatest motivator in my drumming life. Thank you for what is now over a decade of you being the best version of what I'm trying to become

Thanks Mike! As i'm sure you know it's also cool to play doubles with an accent on the second stroke of each double. That also helps develop that snap and as you get faster you loose the accent and end up with two strong doubles. It has helped my shuffle too. Blessings

Hi Mike! Thanks for the info! I'll work on the snap technique to get even doubles. I'm looking forward for more content of you 🤘🏻

Im 52 and have been playing drums for years. Self taught so now with the likes of you tube and creators like you Mike, I'm able to see where I need to improve. Simple stuff like this makes a big difference to my playing. Oh and the surf wax thing looks good. I've always had an issue with my right hand slipping down the stick by about an inch as I play - I'll give it a try. Thanks for this video Mike - Great work!!

Another great way to improve your doubles is by playing ‘inverted doubles’. R LL RR LL RL RR LL RR L This is an exercise used in drum core to even up the second bounce. Steve Gadd uses ID’s in many grooves and fills. They are hard to do but worth the effort.

Same here! Self taught way back in the day, out of the game for a good while, my wife and daughter surprised me with a new kit, gonna be 53 next week. Man, did I have some shit habits. Thanks to instruction like this, I'm better than I was when I had the energy to get away with bad technique. Thanks Mike Terrana for this simple, yet complete exercise.

I was having problems with my sticks sliding in my hands. Then you mentioned how you used surf board wax. I went to Amazon and ordered Mrs. Palmers surf board wax and that works great! Thanks! I have tried tape, gloves, the wax works great. The wax has a groove in it that fits a 5b stick perfectly. Just wax the part of the stick that you contact. Good drumming, Mike keep it up! I am subbed.

Good video Mike …nice to see you moving towards educational. I like the wax idea…cool! For beginning drummers start out with a BPM that you can play clean. Then move up 10 BPM increments…Remember if your hands start hurting you are having problems with your technique…..just my two cents….Rock the House!

I had some unplanned hand adjustments made by a semi truck that resulted in a few missing fingers - not just the tips, but completely gone right down to my palm. I can hold the sticks okay with what I have left but my fingers drift away from the balance point after a few hits. I tried double sided tape, rubber coatings - even in various colors, super glue, string, and so on. What worked for me was adhesive bandage, I wrap some strips around my sticks and fingers and everything stays put. I haven't tried surfboard wax though, I might give that a shot.
