I can definitely do most, if not all of that(minus the literally impossible ones), with single strokes; but it definitely takes up a LOT of stamina. I'm definitely going to try out the double stroke now, but never really neeeeded it before. Can't wait to get it down and see if it is less strenuous! You're a beast. 💯

Yeah, that's another very helpful video from you, Wanja! As usual, my jaw drops on the floor, when I hear how precise and clean those doubles are, ESPECIALLY at extremely high speeds while played on toms. It's impressive, even no need for triggers. I think that the time for me (finally) to discover the double strokes is now. )

What I love about double stroke fills is that you have a lot more freedom to incorporating rudiments into your fills. It takes time, but They sound awesome

Hi Nechtan. First of all, thank you so MUCH for all your videos, really they're pure gold for me. I got back on drums 3 weeks ago after after a few years of "retirement" with the goal of improving enough during the next months to finally be able to play any songs from my favorite bands, including Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child, Wintersun and even Fleshgod Apocalypse. Today I was practicing over the Dusk and her Embrace album in your honor since I know you like it a lot too (also a huge Nic Barker fan here). Everytime I see you play it's a BIG source of motivation for me and I wish you the best. Cheers from Quebec. :D

I think part of the appeal to single strokes is the speed and control needed to be able to do them properly. I agree that double strokes are probably better, especially for stamina, but to me, I just feel more accomplished when I nail something with single strokes. It isn't more of challenge, though, since you have to be playing extremely tightly to get those double strokes sounding powerful and clean, so I like both options. I just prefer single strokes. Great content as always!

Yes, huge sticks actually make it easier for me. They give a better and more controlled rebound and I can also achieve more volume with less motion.

@wanjanechtangroeger
@wanjanechtangroeger 6 жыл бұрын
I think most people having problems with this technique (if you mean my push-pull) forget to use the thumb properly. Pay attention to the movement of the thumb on both hands and apart from that it is just a lot of practise. Also heavy sticks make it easier to do.

Wanja [Nechtan] Gröger Hell yeah... Wish I could play a blast beat like you. I had a kit a few years ago but I was forced to sell it. Had to move across the country and I couldn't take it with. Still regret it. Your channel is contagious, when I see you jam, I want to jam. I use to just relax my hands and use the bigger muscles in my arms,back and shoulders with the recoil from the heads. And the lower I lifted my sticks from the head,the faster I could play. You have technique though I wish I could accomplish.
