Fun fact - Run Devil Run was originally written by Kesha (then stylized as Ke$ha), there actually is her demo on KZfaq. But it circulated for a while until Girls Generation picked it up!

My ancient ass may perhaps screamed when I saw this and that like button got smacked way faster than the play button did. I'm so glad you enjoyed them, it's always a joy to see new ppl reacting to my girls. Girls Generation really Nation girlgroup. Their discography are timeless, no skip, each of them are shining on their own, no one overshadowed. 2nd gen groups are really something, i used to listen a lot of 2nd gen music lists : GG, bigbang, beast (highlight), apink, sistar, suju. All of their musics are certified bops❤ The one who did most high notes in you think is Seohyun she did a lot musical opera so yes for stable voice, just like key and onew from shinee. GG main and lead vocals in rank are Taeyeon, Seohyun, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny.

Hi Caitlin, thank you for reacting to our nation GG. BTW, the one who is on the GOT is Hyoyeon, she is the main dancer and rapper on GG, currently active as a soloist. The one who did the split in “You think” and the one did the back up high notes is the same. Her name is Seohyun. She is the maknae, one of the Main vocalist and currently active as an actress. Yes, she is that talented lmao. And tge last one, the short haired that did the first rap in “You think” is Sooyoung. She is a rapper as well as a vocalist. She is active as an actress as well. I love how much you really honed in on some of the more underappreciated members. Hyoyeon was always the least popular member when the group was regularly active. Her solo career really seems to be going well for her and garnering her more popularity. I'm frankly delighted for her. Sooyoung was the one who's name you asked for during the You Think mv reaction. She's my bias wreaker but she's traditionally been the second least popular along with Hyoyeon. Honestly though, she's so beautiful, is an amazing dancer (probably helped by the fact that she has legs for miles) and has the best vocals of the dance line. And lastly, Seohyun. Out of the vocal line (Taeyeon, Tiffany, Seohyun, Sunny and Jessica pre-2014), her vocals tend to fly under the radar. While in the group, she did a lot of the vocal ad-libs, not so much the belts. She's probably the second or third strongest singer in the group but a lot of people overlooked her back in the day.

Genie is the song that made me a SONE and also the first time Taeyeon caught my attention coz there are many iconic parts on that song but her adlibs are the best part, then came RDR, as soon as I heard her voice I've decided she's the one. I stan SNSD when I was 15 and now that I'm 29 their music still gives me comfort throughout the years

When "You Think" was released it was criticized for being too sexy and racy as a concept but then if you see kpop nowadays, outfit wise and all is a lot more inappropriate and thats whats popular nowadays. I guess SNSD is always ahead of their time like how I Got A Boy was released. 😂

46:12 is Sooyoung! She mostly acts/hosts television programs now. She just recently was the host for HYBE’s competition show “R U Next” 😊 51:38 That’s Seohyun! Maknae of the group and also mostly acts now but she is one HELL of a vocalist!

51:30 the one who sing the adlibs is seohyun, the maknae. she is also the one who did the floor choreo (split). she is one of the original golden maknaes along with super junior kyuhyun. she is the lead vocalist (3rd best vocalist in the group after taeyeon and jessica), the lead dancer, the actress (lots of her dramas are popular) also THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE VISUAL along with yoona and yuri, she is an ACE MAKNAE

In regards to what you were saying about their choreo and TikTok, that actually was a thing during that time, but in a different form. Learning kpop choreos alone or with friends was a really common hobby of Korean teenagers so having choreography that was fun & easy to do was a huge marketability factor. it largely contributed to the success of numerous songs at that time like Gee by Girls' Generation, Roly-Poly by T-ara, Tell Me by Wonder Girls etc etc. Also, on a related note, for years after it came out Genie was the #1 song covered by men in the army XD

I'm so happy SNSD made it into the Double Take! And definitely don't feel bad for not knowing everyone's name yet! I remember back in early to mid 2nd Gen, the comment section of almost every group was just a bunch of people listing who every member of all the different groups were to help new fans. ^^ Frankly, I'm amazed by how many groups you can keep straight! The funny thing about Girls' Generation. They started off as a group without a rapper. Then, the company made Hyoyeon the main rapper with almost all the girls rap at some point aka YoonA, Sooyoung, Yuri, Tiffany, and Sunny

Some fact : The intro (The lion's logo) once misspelled as GILRS' GENERATION a few hours after it released and then reupload it again with the right spelling. The Lion Heart MV we seen today is the new version/concept because the actual footage of the original MV was deleted/lost (the one that show in the retro tv is the only one they have). LION HEART is LYIN' HEART The note that lion left to them is 1719.08.05 1719 (the age of the members age debut) 08.05 is Aug,5th (the debut day of SNSD)

48:36 Actually aside from Lion Heart's retro concept and You Think's girl crush concept, they also have another MV in the Lion Heart album and it's called "Party" with a summer vibe concept. Officially SNSD/Girls' Generation are known as THE Nation's Girl Group of S.Korea. However, they're also unofficially known as "The Blueprint/textbook of Kpop Girl Group" and "Variety Queens" as they already tried almost all concepts and themes. Newer girl groups no longer need to "experiment from the scratch," since they can just get inspiration from SNSD's concept and adjust it to fit their own. Empowering girl group has always been SNSD's mission and they did a good job with it.

For me,SNSD most remarkable achievementhad a big part paving the road for the Girls Group,They are the blueprint for new girl groups. A yr after their debut, in 2008 there were 4x more new groups. Thanks to SNSD and other amazing 2ndGen kpop groups, people and the media all over the world started to pay attention and invest more into the industry. New groups, companies, jobs were created. Lots of promising new talent are in the business today because they were inspired by SNSD. PS:"The Textbook Of Every K-Pop Girl Group" said Mnet and other Korean media outlets!!! Girls Generation is a once in a lifetime group. It’s a bit sad their Hey Day was before K-pop exploded internationally but they’re still amazing. I was waiting for them to come to the US for a concert but they never did and I missed their last SMTown in LA because I had to go to a wedding. I’m sad I never got to see them live.

Seeing you check out Gen 2 makes me so happy. SNSD were one of the top groups in the 2010s. They released so many hits that it was expected that they were always going to be played EVERYWHERE. Brings back happy memories from my early teenage years when I used to listen to groups like SNSD every day.

Yes Caitlin! Also a fun fact, their b-side called "You Better Run" in their 15th anniversary album, it is a sort of connection, or continuation of "Run Devil Run" in terms of lyrics, just in case you want to do an album reaction or any other reaction for SNSD. The titles for each chapter in the "Lion Heart" music video are b-sides to the album, like "Green light", "Sign" and etc, you get it, as well as the date and time the lion is supposed to meet the girls is 08.05 which is SNSD's debut date. Definitely agree with you about how the 2nd gen sound has those vocal harmonies . that you just can get anywhere else. The soul in a lot of 2nd gen vocalists (thinking about SJ's legendary KRY line especially lmao) is just THERE and I miss it a lot when it comes to the new gen music 💔 and yeah, You Think is a BANGER lmao, I love that even though it's been more than a decade, you can immediately recognise Hyoyeon - she is the main dancer of SNSD :D. ijbol when you took off your headphones during the you think rap verse, and then put them right back on during the bridge LMAO. it was so much fun seeing you react to girls generation once again eeeek! got me all nostalgic too. i never want to ask or request cuz ik it's rude and tiring-- and you dont even have to share it with us, but add any of girls' generations' tours to your watch bucket list. if i had to choose, the 1st or 3rd japan tour cuz... the performances and discography are absolutely amazing. if you wanna watch their korean based discography tours, then it has to be between their "2011 girls generation tour" or "girls generation 4th tour -- phantasia." still get so hype over their 1st japan tour 🤧.

If you like “you think” that much,, I recommend to you GIRLS’ GENERATION japanese discography.. catch me if you can, bad girl, flower power, and paparazzi.. you definitely gonna like them.. they don’t stuck to one concept, that’s why every song is hit.. i usually don’t watch reaction videos,, but yours are always my favorite.. reminds me whenever i watch GG mvs for first time ㅋㅋㅋ

And in their Phantasia concert during their Paparazzi song performance, they did a quick modeling/catwalk (spoiler alert). 24:19 I didn't expect that and I got a really good laugh 🤣. So the one rapping before Hyoyeon in You Think was Sooyoung, and the one who's runs (and splits :D ) you really enjoyed is the maknae Seohyun. You should just watch the guide, I think you would fall in love with them even more :)

you should definitely give the demo version for genie a listen even if it’s not on camera , they removed this one part Jessica sang that was so pretty and dreamy I was sad they didn’t add it to the final product 😭

They did do a few concerts, but not a concert tour. Several people have mentioned their appearance at Madison Square Garden, but I haven't seen anyone else mention their appearance at The Hollywood Bowl, or their special appearance following that at the commission of Google south of San Francisco. I am going to kick myself forever for missing the chance to see them there, so I doubt I will ever see them live! Since Google was paying for it, it was actually free for the audience. Can you imagine? I was too unwell then, and now I'm way to broke to afford it even if they ever came back to America. Steve P.
