It’s not a good mix at all. It’s not even a good kit sound to start with, which is the most important part. The mix is over compressed and that snare sound is just wrong, plus the small room ambience and acoustic issues really squash the general sound. Listen to some Blue Note recordings or whatever and hear how different a good jazz kit and mix sounds. Not the worst I’ve heard, but still not great.

Is the entire point of jazz not breaking new ground, trying different things, doing what we want, if we’ve fallen back onto strictly following the accepted tuning schemes of those before us then we are not jazz musicians, we’re cover bands. And besides who cares as long as he makes it sound good
