It's been too early to plant my raised beds here in Michigan, but our last frost date is May 16, so the time is a coming! This is my first year to have raised beds, and I am definitely going to plant thrillers, fillers, and spillers from North to South respectively with trellises that I plan to make with branches that blew down during a winter storm. Love all the tips. A great reminder to me on how to maximize my growing space. Succession planting is the one thing I fail at every year. So this time, I’m going to try and do that this year and try fall planting too.

Rain today up here in the 831! Good day to harden off my seed trays! My in ground space should be all tomatoes, cucs, and zucs. Now that I'm on my 3rd GreenStalk tower all my peppers & bush beans can fit! I need to consult my Raised Bed Gardening book!

Your transplants look so healthy!! Great job! I popped all my pepper plants in my raised bed but with our cooler weather they really aren’t growing too much. I’m just trying to keep the bugs away from them!

I always love watching your channel , when I first started my gardening journey I watched other channels too , but yours is the only one I come back to again and again. I love your channel. Thanks so much. I long for the day to have a house so I can garden grocery store in my yard. But it’s so hard here with the heat … do you know of a heat tolerant bean that can take some extra heat ?

Wow, thank you. this really made my day. So encouraging to receive comments like this. Here are heat tolerant beans - that can handle the higher temps. Cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata):aka black-eyed peas. Lima Beans (Phaseolus lunatus) Adzuki Beans (Vigna angularis) Yardlong Beans (Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis) Hyacinth Beans (Lablab purpureus) You'll have to research where to find these - I do not carry them in my seedshop. Don't give up on your dream house: IT WILL HAPPEN-keep working towards it. You're the Best - remember that! CK

Ok yall, I need help!!!! I have 2 questions…. But first, A little info: •I live in zone 8a so think major heat with a side of wind... •I prefer starting from seed, 🤔but I actually don’t know why.. • I can grow top notch humans, but cucumbers…not so much. •I shamefully must admit This is my third year “trying”. • But I’m too stubborn to quit. So.. My First year, I had less than 7 plants, all from seed, and all started great then ended with root rot. (I over watered in fear of them getting too dry/hot. They never made it into the ground) Second year, less than 10 plants. 8 were from seed, 2 were seedlings… 0 made it into the ground. I’m pretty sure it was a Bug infestation?!? That neem oil and/or peroxide-water didn’t fix. Now, round 3, Ive started with almost 15, 3inch starting pots (all cucumber and tomato seeds ) but I also got 4 sweet bell pepper choices, 2 different types of watermelon, and 2 types of tomato’s. So far so good but I’ll take any advice I can get. And also…. • This year I bought expensive soil + amendments, and raised beds. 🤞🏼So Let’s hope I get to use them.. now my questions 1.) isn’t it a no no to plant tomatoes and cucumbers in the same bed? Or does that really not matter? 2.) is there a “best time of day” for hardening them off? Sorry about my book yall!! But if you made it, thank you🙏 I figured I’d cover most of the basics, so you could get right to your answer.

Well now. I will say that this is no undoubtedly the winner of the longest comment award!!!😇 You sound very busy out there, how fun!!! Regarding your question; it isn't that you can't do it, you can. However, there are some crucial factors that you need to keep in mind. If you're mindful of these considerations and properly manage your garden, you can successfully grow tomatoes and cucumbers in the same bed. However, if you have limited space or are concerned about disease management, you may consider planting them in separate beds or containers. Space Requirements: Both tomatoes and cucumbers can be sprawling plants, especially indeterminate tomato varieties. Ensure that you have enough space in your bed to accommodate the growth of both plants without overcrowding. Disease Management: Tomatoes and cucumbers are susceptible to some of the same diseases, such as blight and mildew. Planting them in close proximity increases the risk of disease spread between the plants. Competition for Resources: Tomatoes and cucumbers have similar nutrient requirements. Planting them together may lead to competition for soil nutrients and water. Support and Trellising: Both tomatoes and cucumbers benefit from some form of support or trellising to keep their vines off the ground. Let me know how you decide!
