This Triumph TR7 was given to us so now we're giving it to Doug. We're gonna haul it out from our junkyard and see what kind of shape it's even in. Hoping the wheels aren't seized and that it has steering. The weather is so nice today that we're taking the day off from inside the shop! Bonus episode: • Welding in the rear wi... 🎬

Doug, if you take a coat hanger and slip through the hood vent on drivers side you can probably hook the hood opening cable. Pull upward and it should open. Hood opens from the windshield. You may want to have another person try to open the hood as you pull on the cable. Doug ,make a roll top hard top that you can mount and take off as wanted.

I have owned several of these. The main problem is making sure you get the system full of water. It has an aluminum head that will warp if you don't. I drove my main one 150,000 miles. Seldom had a problem with it. Owned it for 15 years. My favorite Tr7 had a Buick V6 conversion, 231 ci engine with a monza 5 speed. Very fast and fun to drive!

Rover v8, buick v6 or an American v8 with a decent chassis. Endless options Doug. Have to remember it is after all a Triumph so don't lean on it. It may need a trip to the panel repair shop if you do. Seriously, an all alloy v6 or v8 engine would be a hoot to drive. I wish you all the best with that project.

Doug dont worry bout the negative comments. They just don't have ability to see what it can be. I think it's an interesting project. I would loose the bumpers, widen body and give it a good stance. Use the Lancia Stratos rally car as inspiration.

They remind me of a doorstop, but I bet they don’t have much wind drag slowing them down. that would keep the front end from raising up if you took a golf car rear end with the variator drive system and put a huge twin cylinder Briggs and Stratton in the rear as a novelty car. They have real drum brakes like older cars, you’d have to make a wider wheels, so it would look tub but get them out to the edge like they should be. The biggest drawback would be that gas golf carts with the variator system are to cycle and the motor turns off and runs in reverse to go backwards. You have to do a Friction drive Idler to send the variator system in the reverse direction To back up, but that wouldn’t be a big deal. I’m just a kind of guy who would do it because somebody would tell me it couldn’t be done! Ha ha! I had a Harley Davidson three wheel golf car and the rear end was very heavy made. Much more so than the tram car probably except for smaller brakes.

Throw the boot spoiler in the junk! Give it a clean, swap the engine if you want and just drive it. You can get a new hood from the UK Mail order. If you have to put a 4x4 under it, you should get a Range rover chassis with a Buick V8 already in, it’s been done many times in the UK, check KZfaq.

What about doing a Mazda Miata engine and transmission swap? They are rear wheel drive just like the TR7 and also reliable. They come in both standard and automatic, Doug was mentioning his knee is not liking shifting any more. Plus the leather interior from a Miata might fit? Could be a neat build? Also might be cool to see some videos along the way of his build?’

i was wondering the past few years what Chad would do with it , i have a 77 tr7 I'm restoring at the moment , i have had several 7,s over the years ,if and it looks to be judging by the lump on the bonnet a 1981 fuel injected model ,if so , I would go full restore all original because its last year ,if the vin prefix is satpv ,it was amoung the last runs made at the new factory before they went under .Doug should consult the older British gentleman that you know before proceeding. a satpv car is worth about 20k american . Woodys wedge shop, boston mass. good place for parts,as well as moss motors which i know from watching the show you already know. moss just bought out rimmer bros. the roadster factory burnt to the ground chrismas day . Love the show , Chad has inspired me to learn how to weld .

The Triumph TR7 are supper little cars. Made in the UK by the British Leyland Group. All parts are still available. The front and rear bump stops were only fitted the US Canada cars, they sure are ugly. Take them off give it a good soapy wash then polish and see the difference. In the UK it would be restored.

I put an 80s Toyota 22r and 5 speed in one of these, it was fast going straight but I found the suspension lacking in corners. Terrible cars, but they are fun to mod. Edit: I used the Toyota wiring harness as well, the wiring on these cars is Mickey Mouse time. Plan to use an aftermarket electrical system or you will wish you had.

I liked the car but a friend of mine who was a mechanic told me to get rid of it fast because he didn’t know how to work on it ……. He was a GM mechanic. So I ended up trading it straight across for a 73 Ss split bumper Camaro…….. Best trade I ever made

Small block Chevy, 360 Dodge , 5 litter Ford mustang motor or just as good a rover V 8 the same year as the car. Fabercate a steel roof of some sort to minic the soft top . Maybe even a flip front end and a full roll cage. But it's your car and I am sure what you do with her will turn out, maybe even a V6! Small block V8 would be better. Back in "The Day", here on the island there was someone who 'Pro Streated' " A Chevy Chevet ", whith of all engines, a 454 BIG BLOCK, CAMMED AND DONE UP BIG TIME. The island is your neighbor, P.E.I., Good Luck In whatever you build........
