The Sig 4 Point Safety System -
1-De-cocking lever- Lets you safely lower the hammer with a loaded chamber.
2-Firing pin block. The firing pin cannot move forward if the trigger is not being pressed. This is also called "Drop Safety"
3-Safety Intercept Notch. The reason the hammer is not touching the firing ping when it is down, if the trigger is not pressed the hammer cannot move all the way forward.
4-Trigger bar disconnect. While the slide is cycling, the trigger bar is disconnected from the sear to avoid an out-of-battery discharge.
What it is and how it works! A long needed video explanation of how the internal and passive safeties work on the Sig Sauer P226.
This video is an excerpt from a larger comprehensive review you can find on my channel. Hope this helps to shed some light on some of the engineering that goes into a Sig.

Commenting on this 10 year old video because it’s a great learning tool to actually see how all the inner parts interact, it’s one thing to read about it but to see and hear the explanation increases understanding 10 fold.

Answered many questions I had concerning this gun. Just purchased a p229 combat and was a little nervous once I racked back the slide and actually chambered the first round. I saw that hammer back and I wondered what would happen if it moved forward without me pulling the trigger. I have always had much more simpler guns... It's amazing to me how brilliant engineers or builders can be. It really does look like they thought everything through.Thank GOD for smarter people than me! : )Thanks for the video!!

FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! I've been searching forever for a good layman's explanation of all four points of this system. I'm a HUGE Sig fan, and whenever I tell a friend about my Sigs, or let one of them shoot one, I'm always sure to inform them that it has no "external safety", but it's safe and absolutely will not go off unless you're pulling the trigger. When the inevitable question arises "Then... how is it safe?", my canned answer was always; "it has proven INternal safety measures". Now that I'm armed with more info, I can actually go into a more detail than that. Thank you so much for this video! I guarantee there are a LOT of Sig owners who could benefit from watching this.

One of the most thorough explanations i've come across! Hope you post more videos just to give newbies like myself more general firearm knowledge! Ive been testing out firearms at the local shooting range and have been researching which type of gun to purchase to take my firearm virginity for months and this solidified my decision in purchasing a sig as my first firearm! Its beautiful and feels great in my hands when firing!(unlike the box shaped glocks)

Great video, thank you for explaining so thoroughly. Was very helpful. I just bought a used Sig 220 carry & haven't had a chance to fire it yet. Was concerned that the hammer wasn't seated correctly & didn't realize this is one of the safety features. So thank you for putting my concerns to rest as well as allowing me to learn about some really neat features.

P excellent video on the Sig p 229 and other guns all about the safety firing pin just remember these guns have a thing to let the hammer go down but without hitting the fireman pin the only problem is if you press the trigger by accident the gun will go off so be careful lot of people don't slide it back until they're ready to shoot it but you don't know what the situation is you're not at a target range if you need the gun to save your life 🇺🇲👍

I tell ya, I've watched a lot of KZfaq videos explaining the ins and outs of guns. Your presentation was well done - very professional from beginning to end. I recently purchased the Sig P229 .40. Legion. Being from the old school having previous experience with firearms with safeties, I was a little unnerved that the P229 Legion did not have the external safety lever. I went ahead with the purchased anyway because of my infatuation with the pistol. Your video put all my concerns to rest. Thanks

Well done video! Very organized, easy to follow, and informative. Nice tip at the end. additionally, if you look between the extractor and barrel, there is a small gap, or window. You should be able to visually see the round chambered, in P-series handguns. The audible and tactile checks are good too, as you said, we do not always have the light to visually check.

Great video. I am planning on getting either a P250 or an SP2022 and the lack of a 'manual' external safety was a bit alarming to me. I knew SIG had this safety system but I didnt understand much of how it worked past the decocker, which is a no brainer. This video clearly explained how the other 3 passive safeties work and now I am not at all concerned about the lack of a manual safety

CZ75, Beretta 92 and SIG P226 are exemples of pistols where the firing pin safety is disconnected like the regular sear after each shot. Most, if not all, striker fired pistol firing pon safeties, are trigger actuated and after a shot the firing pin will be unlocked until de user releases the trigger. On a SIG, after you fire a shot, the firing pin will return on its locked position. I noted it using the silly "world of guns" game.

I just bought this and I got to say, when using the decocker, it really freaks me out that the hammer falls just like normal (visually) I have not tried it yet, as soon as my Conceal Carry Permit comes in, I will be carrying this gun with the chamber loaded and hammer down (at rest). The only way to get there is with the decocker. I will practice at the range before, but just seeing you makes me a lot more confidant.
@immikeurnot
@immikeurnot 5 жыл бұрын
The decocker is perfectly safe on a Sig pistol. I've used them for over a decade. Loaded chamber and decocked is really the only way I'll carry a Sig. Just don't put your support hand forefinger on the trigger guard like this guy does. That thing is a holdover from the '80s. One Sig-specific thing you'll want to do is move your right thumb out to the base of your support hand knuckle to avoid accidentally ride the slide release.

Very well explained, and your visuals clearly show the components to help in the explanation. Well done. I know this is a dated video, but, in your opinion, does such complicated engineering increase the chance of a failure? I've heard great things about the Sig pistol, with very few negatives, and nothing really that involves mechanical failure. I plan on getting a 2022 when I find enough pennies.
@Douglas8I
@Douglas8I 7 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, complicated engineering does not increase the chance of failure is the quality of the engineering is there. I still feel that the craftsmanship that goes into the internals is pretty strong (despite the external frame chipping I was getting from the decocker riding too high). If there is a lot of systems in any machine that is poorly designed or poorly constructed, than it is all for not. I believe this pistol to be at a very high caliber for quality overall, so the multiple safeties and complexity of the safeties I still feel is only beneficial in this case. Just my opinion.

Awesome video... makes me feel more confident about getting a Sig. Good job! :D One questions though... I know riding the hammer while riding the hammer is a REALLY BAD idea now, but what about riding the hammer while engaging the decocker? I think the reason to do this is if you want to do things quietly or if you I am being paranoid with safety.
