Mostly from places and lands where they had lived for centuries and even millennia. Almost all of them having no place to go except Israel. Since then several Two-State-Solutions and other solutions have been put in place. Each time Israel agreed and the Arab Muslims did not and then started conflicts or war. It wasn't until the 1960s that the Palestinians as a separate group started calling themselves Palestinians, perhaps trying to claim the land for themselves in that way, or because people didn't know what else to call them or they didn't know what to call themselves. There is more information and details concerning these things. But this is part of the history of events mostly throughout the 1900s.
