Күн бұрынOn August 10th, 2020, my wife (Brooke Porter) went to Grimes, Iowa to pick up something from Facebook marketplace. She was not aware of the incoming storm. Our dual dash cam picked up what happened. Thankfully, just a few scratches, broken glasses and a lost stuffed animal. The fact that she has 5 kids in her care and the way her eyes looked around goes to show you she was looking out for the very best of those kiddos and herself. Well done ma'am. Very well done. 😂 correction. The calm boy in the front saved everyone’s life because the mom didn’t even know what to do. She started to panic and ask the young boy what to do. if he wasn’t calm and took control of the situation and told his mom to go to the store she would have lost it and not known what to do

The mother asking her son what she should do made me cry. What a wonderful relationship to have with your parent at such a young age were they trust you like that. And for her to keep her calm with the other crying in the back? My parents wouldve been freaking out and telling me to stfu in that situation. This video speaks volumes on what kind of parent she is.

You can just see the trust and bond between these kids and mom. They were all working together to keep things as calm as they could and support mama. Great job all around and praise God everyone made it safely to shelter!

living in Iowa, they've probably already seen and been through at least a couple tornadoes. LOL It's a fact of life in that part of the US. So I'm guessing that's part of why they were not too fazed. LOL

@@3914hwood bro, i would have been terrified, no one can blame her for letting some fear slip into her voice. parents aren't robots, they're allowed to show fear if they think their family is in danger. they still managed to stay pretty calm given their circumstances, so kudos to the whole family.

She should know, not because she is an adult but because she's likely to have more experience understanding weather conditions and safety. Although she panic'd at least she didn't visibly freak out.

I think in that situation, EVERY one of us would have that moment! She easily could've freaked out, but she stayed calm, her son stayed calm, she got her kids to safety! Bottom line- she's not a storm expert- she doesn't study storm patterns. She made a quick turn around, her son guided her to a shelter, kids are safe!! So anyone critiquing her strength, or critical thinking, you've better been in that situation with 5 or six kids in the car

Perfect ex of how everyone acts different. The Crying one. The snarky one telling you your crying is making it worse. The calm cool one directing. The semi calm one, who is on the verge of panicking but holds it together to get you to safety. Glad you guys got to safety in time.

"You are making worst" and the other says "it's ok don't cry". They know each other reactions and feelings how to handle it. The older kid was like a house at least. Then was asked again says turn here. She actually did. Wow man that kid has one critical thinking at beat. Mom wow you remained calmed even when kid cried out loud. Also trusting on your child knowing they make a clear decisions. Trust me at the end of the day y'all like omg what a work with our kids but is worth at the end. Being independent making their own decisions.

I was in a very similar situation with my wife and infant years back. Sirens started, radio stations died, looking for any structure for cover as visibility quickly neared zero, I parked my truck on the side walk near the door of a Khol's. I used the drivers side of my truck as wind block for the glass doors of the store. Nobody gave me any grief for it. The staff welcomed us and several more in just as hail from a tornado started.

The Illinois derecho went through my hometown last June while I was at work. During the middle of it, an EF2 tornado passed about 150 yards from my house. I was desperately trying to call/text/messenger my wife to get the kids into the storage room under the stairs in my basement but the cell towers were all messed up. I saw the rotation on the radar scope app right over my home. We had a 4 foot around pin oak fall inches from my house. The whole area was a total mess. More than 100k people were without power in our county alone. There were reports of 100mph wind gusts. I feel for this family because I know my kids were equally afraid and they were in a basement. You are a good mom. You kept your cool and did what you had to do.

Hats off to everyone, especially the young man in the front seat who stayed calm and gave reassuring advice, get to the store and get safe. Glad were all OK! And yes, "illegal" driving is excused when getting away from danger and to safety. When you see parts of a roof fly across the road ahead, you turn around!

When this storm happened i was outside picking tomatoes on a sunny day and literally within 5 minutes the sky turned BLACK the wind started blowing and my neighbors were rushing to get their dogs inside, i went inside with my tomatoes and the storm got really bad. It was raining sideways and hailing with intense wind, we lost a pine tree and our oak trees lost so many leaves it looked like fall time in August. Even to this day you'll still find damage from the deraco, it caused really bad tree damage and destroyed grain bins.

These storms are no joke. My husband and I rode out a derecho in our basement in 2006. When I went to work the next morning I couldn't believe all of the damage. The NWS recorded hundreds of microbursts, downbursts and "gust-nadoes" (mini wannabe tornadoes). It was the weirdest storm I had ever been through.

My wife was at chic fil a with my 2 year old son when this came through cedar rapids and I was at work. She had to run inside like you guys did with my son. Craziest thing that has ever happened in Iowa. I could barely get to them after the storm with all the powerlines, trees and debris on the roads. Pretty scary.

This derecho was the start of one of the worst months of my life. I was working for a security company at the time, and the amount of alarms that went off suddenly grew to over 10,000. I got home that day only to realize we had no power. My wife and I got a hotel for a couple days until the power was restored, but made sure to go home a couple times a day to feed the cats and make sure they had water. Once the power was restored on the third day, we went home to clean out the fridge of stuff that was spoiled. In the process of doing this, our oldest cat let out a deep yowl and started stumbling. We hurried him to the vet as we believe he had a stroke just then. They couldn't find anything wrong that night without more intrusive tests so they had us take him home and monitor him. He started to have random seizures, he didn't have any of his normal tendencies to cuddle or anything, and after a few days he wasn't eating and couldn't keep down water. We made the excruciating decision to have him put down. This derecho not only reminds us of the stress from the added work load and other storm related issues, but it is a reminder that those few days we spent in a hotel were days we didn't get to spend with him. It is still one of my biggest regrets and it tears me apart just thinking about it. That is what I think of when people talk about the derecho.

I remember when I was much younger and lived in Kentucky, it was my birthday and we were going out to dinner. All of a sudden a huge storm hit, and then a tornado very quickly afterwards touched down near us and was barreling towards us. My mom was the one driving, and one thing about my mom, she’s a total badass, and she’s an amazing driver. My mom didn’t even have time to turn around before the tornado was on top of us. And being the badass she is, she stayed calm and collected, and drove right through that sucker as fast as she could. Thankfully it wasn’t an extremely strong tornado, but boy was it scary. After we had gotten a fairly safe distance from it, I remember my mom just sighing in relief. We ended up still going to dinner that day.

Yeah, this was an example of how to deal with a dangerous situation, properly. She doesn't scream or get frustrated, she makes a good decision in running it by her son, and he does an great job at being calm. Fear and panic can kill you because I think fear likely causes your decision making to revert to an emotional level which is a dangerous practice

I know one of the younger children started crying-and understandably so-but I am in awe of how calm and in control the children are of their emotions in such a scary situation. I commend the mother for valuing the children’s input and asking for guidance as she concentrated on maneuvering the storm. Their family dynamic is just impressive all around. Well done!

The fact that the mom asked the kid in the front seat "what should I do" then looked directly at him and asked again speaks volumes about her trust in his judgement which seems crazy considering how young he is. My guess is this kid is constantly having ideas / thoughts well beyond his years and for the mom to recognize that and then use it in a high pressure situation like that speaks to the survival instinct. Great video also I live like 20 mins from there.

I was that kid. I don’t like it. As much as I appreciate having my parent tell me stuff and confiding in me, it became way too much for me. I don’t want that responsibility just yet. I shared my mother’s burden at such a young age and I grew up way too fast because of it. Instead of enjoying stuff children usually do, I worried more about closing shop, where to get the money to pay for things, etc. Nevertheless, I still love my mom and I owe the world to her.

@@premium6657 there is nothing wrong for growing up too fast, just my opinion... as my parents taught me about responsibility, saving and using money properly etc, since I was 7 yo.. well it sucks that I couldn't have happy childhood as you mentioned. I used to care alot about how much pocket money I need to save for helping my parents for their business or feeding us, and so on .. I don't really have interest with kids stuff, or play around with other kids.. but yeah, it effects me now, I have alot of interest with toys or games, cartoons or animations.. probably this is side effects of being mature too early 😅😅 ..but it's ok..you can still control everything...when you are an adult you will realise how good that lesson.. you will be Soo thankful as you parents taught such a thing on your early age.

The boy in the front was so so brave and calming his mum, I will always respect this boy, but I could hear the other kid crying which made me worry for the family and what was going on, but they did a very good job they were nice and calm in what seemed like a very scary and stressful situation

Her child fell over, and she stayed to help them and nearly fell over herself. This woman is an amazing mother. My mother would have left me in the car.
