- here we are again with another woodcarving tutorial carving a typical Woodspirit in found wood "a stick". Although alittle more difficult than the 5 minute wizard found in the "the most fantastically simple yet satisfying carving ever" video i believe it is still very attainable for most and may just get you hooked on woodcarving
-Tools used in the video
1 7/8" Occ Tools knife ,#9 gouges 5 and 10 mm, 3 and 6 mm v-tools made by Pfeil but would recommend palm tools over mid sized handles as i use
-buy me a coffee ,merch etc links can be found below in my Linktree link
-thanks for watching!

I love to carve wood spirits! I've moved from Ohio to Michigan to live with my mom. She's 91 years old and legally deaf. She has a cochlear implant. I've left all my carving tools in Ohio. We plan on traveling down to Ohio, so I can pick up some of my plants and carving tools. I don't have much time to work on my hobbies, but I'm sure that I'll have time after I settle in. My mom's "cabin" has a lot of space. Before my dad passed away, he added a three car garage and above it he built a three bedroom and shower.

I’ve been watching you for years now Doug. I actually used one of your videos (stopping, scrolling back, re starting) to carve my very first carving. I use the step by step process to making the face then just let the personality come out as I go. We appreciate the time and effort as well as your talent that you put into these videos.

Watching the beginning of this, I thought of Michelangelo's saying. The sculpture is already complete within the block of marble, I just had to chisel away the extra bits (a little bit of paraphrasing, I am sure). -- The Wood Spirit was already in the stick. You just had to remove the extra wood for everyone to see him.

Wow, This has become some seriously highfalutin wood carving. I am very impressed. Knives and gouges and chisels. We grew up back in the 50s and 60s whittling sticks into spirits and gnomes with just a pocket knife. You fellows nowadays have taken it to a whole new level.

Fun video, Doug and love the intro! Those would make great hiking stick toppers, and it's probably a little easier carving a short piece of wood than a a long hiking stick. I like to carve toppers to attach to the top of my hiking sticks. And I'll use a dowel screw to join them together. Thanks again for the instruction and inspiration!

I purchased some fantasy literature wall art online for my home, and suddenly my KZfaq suggestions are full of crafting videos. I'll think on the more sinister connotations of that later, but for now, what a great video! You chose a beautiful spot to film, the birdsong makes a wonderful, soothing musical counterpoint to your verbal instructions. Watching you transform the raw stick into a piece of art was fascinating! You are an incredibly talented artist. Thank you very much for the video!
