In this video, you'll be transported to a bygone era, where the iconic 100-year old steam train takes you on a scenic adventure through picturesque vineyards, along the meandering Douro River. The rolling stock used for the Douro Historic Train consists of 5 different historical carriages, built between 1908 and 1934. The steam locomotive is CP 0186, built in Germany by Henschel & Sohn, in 1925.

There's an enduring centuries-long connection between Newfoundland and Labrador and Portugal through the legendary White Fleet. Starting as early as the 16th century, Portuguese fishermen sailed out of Lisbon, crossing the Atlantic Ocean to fish off the shores of Newfoundland. Over time, they became known as the White Fleet because of the colour of the ships. Newfoundland and Labrador's long standing relationship with Portugal dates back to 1500 when Portuguese explorer Gasper Corte-Real landed there. On two occasions in recent years, the special relationship between Newfoundland and Portugal has been given official public recognition. In 1955, the Roman Catholic Cathedral in St. John's observed its centennial and was evaluated to the rank of Basilica. A highlight of the celebrations was a parade of several thousand Portuguese fishermen who marched through the city from the waterfront to the Basilica and presented an enduring gift in the form of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Again, in 1965, they gathered in large numbers for the ceremonial unveiling of a huge bronze statue of Gaspar Corte Real. Hey Miguel, you should go to Newfoundland and Labrador and do a POV Tour.

I am glad you also focus on the interesting transportation available in Portugal 👍 Maybe in some future videos you can integrate the 2, like your journey on the transportation mode (bus, train, etc) to the city for the walk....

Boa tarde Miguel, que vídeo legal, você fez no ano passado o passeio de carro pela Estrada Nacional N-222 de Régua a Pinhão, agora está fazendo o trajeto de trem e no ano que vem você fecha a trilogia viajando de barco pelo Rio Douro, fazendo assim um grande finale da região do Douro, aqui no Brasil também temos alguns passeios de trem antigos chamados popularmente de " Maria Fumaça" principalmente na região de Minas Gerais e no Sul do Brasil, realmente é uma viagem nostálgica e romântica. Hello Kelly! 😀 Yes, this video was a TON of work! Twice as long as usual, the image quality was inconsistent (due to the rain and changing sunlight), so I had to edit it extensively. I uploaded the thumbnail and wrote the title 3 minutes before the video went live, that's how tight the schedule was. 😅 This is a train journey that I really recommend. But keep an eye on the weather forecast, avoid those hot summer days...

Olá Miguel, Fomos à Portugal em 2022 e 2023 no verão, e utilizamos muito dos seus vídeos para montar o roteiro de viagem. Conhecemos 53 locais entre aldeias, vilas e cidades. Percorri a N222 de Régua à Pinhão, vizitei as estações de trem(comboio), e dei um mergulho no Rio Tua, proximo da hidroelétrica. Olá Mariano! 😊 Este comboio tem cada vez mais sucesso e não irá parar. Este até foi o ano em que fez mais percursos. Só funciona entre julho e outubro (o ano passado só até setembro), mas há alguma possibilidade de ser alargado esse período em anos futuros. Sim, é possível viajar do Porto (estação de Campanhã) para Régua, demora pouco menos de 2 horas.

It brought back pleasant memories of visiting Regua and Pinhao and staying at Quinta de la Rosa just outside of Pinhao and taking the Rabelo boat between Pinhão and Tua. Miguel, I am looking for a Portuguese woman non-catholic who doesn't like Bacalhau. Does such a woman exist? LOL

Bom dia Miguel, Que vídeo fantástico! Adorei a viagem de comboio... Há algo de muito especial em viajar de comboio, especialmente num comboio a vapor. O Douro é muuuito bonito. Eu adoro conduzir, mas o comboio é sem dúvida uma óptima maneira de ver tudo e relaxar também. Tem sempre as melhores informações - acho que todos nós a apreciamos muito! Como sabe, sou de Ottawa... e apenas meia hora a norte, há uma aldeia chamada Wakefield, Quebec. Ottawa está localizada onde o rio Ottawa encontra os rios Rideau e Gatineau. Durante muitos anos, havia um velho comboio a vapor que ia de Otava até Wakefield. Não parava em lado nenhum, era para visitar locais e tinha também algumas carruagens-restaurante que ofereciam refeições caras. Era muito popular durante toda a primavera e verão, mas sobretudo no outono, quando as cores do outono são espectaculares. Conheço algumas pessoas que visitaram Wakefield de comboio, mas era sobretudo popular entre os turistas. Toda a minha vida fui de carro até Wakefield e adorava ver o comboio chegar. O comboio trazia muito dinheiro para a comunidade. Infelizmente, o comboio deixou de circular há alguns anos. No entanto, Wakefield continua a receber muitos visitantes. Na verdade, estou a ficar aqui agora. Mais uma vez, muito obrigada! Fazes sempre vídeos maravilhosos! Espero que tenhas uma semana fantástica, Miguel.

Aqui em Portugal muitas linhas históricas também foram fechadas, e os comboios deixaram de circular. Deu-se prioridade a auto-estradas para os carros circularem... Com um pouco de nostalgia tbm, e que me fez voltar atrás no tempo, pois nasci nessa cidade linda da Regua,onde cresci e passei a minha juventude ! Fiz algumas viagens entre Regua e Lisboa, de comboio e até hoje ,era o passeio que mais gostava e que nunca vou esquecer! Olá Ulker! 😀❤ Actually, half of my family roots are from Régua, and the other half from a small village in the Castro Daire municipality. I've already made a video in Castro Daire. 😊 But I was born and bred in Lisbon. I gave the sweets to my father, they are very nostalgic to him, and I usually avoid sweets anyway (within reason). 😋 There will be POV videos from planes in the future, when I visit the archipelagos of Madeira and Azores, for example. I may also make a few videos in another country soon... Regarding ships, I will publish one soon, filmed a few weeks ago. 😀 Take care and have a great week!

Thank you for the enjoyable and relaxing round-trip train ride into the Douro Valley, and for giving those of us who wish we could have joined you the opportunity to watch how the "beast" if fired up and the maintenance performed on the engine during the trip. I knew that the temperature in the Alentejo region of Portugal can get pretty hot but did not know the same is true of the Douro Valley. BTW, can people buy additional wine while on the train or bring their own bottle(s) for the trip?

Yes, the depth and shape of the Douro Valley can create extreme high temperatures, it feels like being inside an oven. It's been getting consistently hotter for the last 20-25 years. You cannot buy additional wine while on the train, but you can buy wine at both Pinhao and Tua, when the train stops for maintenance. At Tua station, in particular, there's a big display of regional products, all types of Douro /Port wine, cheese, etc, etc. 😋 You can buy wine at Régua station too, and bring the bottles for the trip.

@@pncicitap2519 Nothing beats a good cup of coffee, especially on days like this. Non-stop rain since 11am in Lisbon (it's now almost 8pm).

Miguel, adoro chuva embora às vezes atrapalhe o programa, pelos videos que tenho visto sobre essas locomotivas elas foram transformadas, em vez do carvão coque agora usam diesel, para evitar incêndios com as fagulhas e menos poluição.E se pen- sas que me fazes raiva com o Vinho do Porto, não senhor, aqui em casa como bom portugues não pode faltar. O meu irmão que mora no Rio de Janeiro fez um tour pelo Douro do Porto até a Régua, passou por não sei quantas eclusas uma das quais lhe meteu medo. E que pena que tenham acabado com a linha do Corgo. ate breve Miguel.

Olá Alcides! 😀 Sim, inicialmente eram a carvão e depois foram adaptadas para diesel. Algumas eclusas no Rio Douro são arrepiantes, sim. 😅 Há alguns projetos que podem levar à reabertura da Linha do Corgo, principalmente para fins turísticos, vamos ver... Oxalá que sim. Olá... saudações desde Ubatuba São Paulo...Qual a distância em horas do Porto a Régua...e a melhor maneira de chegar, autocarro ou comboio.

Olá para Ubatuba! 😀 A distância de Porto a Régua é de 100 a 120km, dependendo da rota escolhida. De comboio é muitíssimo mais bonito, sem dúvida seria a opção que eu recomendaria. De autocarro (Rede Expressos, por exemplo) pode ser um pouco mais rápido. Mas atenção que alguns autocarros não são diretos, e demoram mais até que o comboio. Verifique sempre se é direto. Os diretos demoram pouco mais de 1h30.

Не могу поверить, что вина из Lagoa хуже, чем портвейн. У моего отца был виноградник в 1490-1500 гг. И мы отвозили его в огромных бочках по 400-600 л в Портимао. А там грузили бочки на большую лодку. И эта лодка плыла в монастырь к брату отца, который был там ответственный за продовольствие для монахов. В Lagoa тоже жарко. Особенно в августе.
