Say it isn’t so! After a 6 month engagement Dove Cameron and Ryan McCarten shocked everyone with news of their breakup--so what the heck happened?!
Just a month ago it seemed like everything was fine between the young couple, especially since they had just announced their engagement back in April. The pair had been dating since August 2013, and they were one of the most adorable and inseparable couples in young Hollywood. But behind closed doors thinks obviously weren’t going as well as we all thought…
As for why the couple split, one source at E! News claims it was Dove who pulled the plug on the engagement due to drama between Ryan and her friends, explaining QUOTE, "None of Dove's close friends are very fond of him and their relationship as they felt he…was using her for exposure”. Neither Dove nor Ryan have commented on the reason for the breakup directly, but we all know that nothing causes serious tension in a relationship like your friends not getting along with your bae. But whether Dove’s friends liked Ryan or not, we’re seriously hoping that the rumor that he was with Dove for exposure is completely false, especially since marriage is supposed to be a lifelong commitment--not a Hollywood contract!
That all being said, there could have been other reasons for the split, such as busy separate schedules between the pair. This definitely seems like it could at least be a contributing factor to the breakup, as it’s the most a classic and understandable reason why many happy Hollywood couples eventually end up going their separate ways.
In the aftermath of the split news, Dove finally broke her silence and tweeted out a heartfelt message to fans, saying QUOTE, “Thank you for your support & full hearts in this very intense & human time. There's a lot love between Ryan & I. Life is beautiful & long.” She’s got that right--time is definitely on this young couples’ side, and while they may not be getting married anytime soon, where there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of possibility for a reconciliation down the line...
On Ryan’s end, he tweeted out his own acknowledgement of his fans’ support during the difficult time, also asking that they QUOTE, “Please be sensitive, as this is painful”.
