Across the country on any given weekend there are regular people like accountants, doctors, carpenters and even school teachers all gathering at their local gun ranges. They join with police officers, soldiers, and security personnel to compete in a shooting sport called International Defensive Pistol Association, or better known as IDPA. They each face multiple scenarios that replicate potential real life threats where they must defend themselves while being judged for accuracy and speed.
Over 340 of these people came to a little town in NC to compete against each other. The event took place at a local club simply known as "The Range". We follow some of these competitors through the challenging stages that through the challenging stages that push them to the limits. Each of them faces their own hurdles and setbacks over two grueling days of competition. Real people facing realistic life altering scenarios.

Forget the table. Love 1911's.. Love my G27 much more. The IDPA (etc) rules are for noobs.. Seriously.. Anyone have the "nads" to pat down real shooters?? Has NOTHING to do with the person, unless the person comes in with ZERO understanding of what they are handling. I worry much more today about liberals picking up firearms..

RealLife73 The pros tune every single factor to their benefit; the gun, their conditioning, their mental state. You can bet there are very few things one could do to make their equipment better for them. These are the lessons they have learned the hard way along the path to get where they are today.
@silvermediastudio

There is no power factor in IDPA, and there are limitations on how much a pistol can be tuned. You're thinking about USPSA or IPSC.

I understand the point of the vests but are there any IDPA matches where you can draw from strong side or appendix?
@MakeReadyTV
@MakeReadyTV 10 жыл бұрын
Wearing a vest is only done in certain stages within the match. Holster wise, there are a list of holster styles that are IDPA approved for use in matches. You should check out www.idpa.com for more info.

PanteaoProductions But what is the reason it is not legal when it is a preferred method of carry for many people?
@DrJimJam111
@DrJimJam111 9 жыл бұрын
+NameWithheld Both weak side and appendix draws require quite a bit of sweeping motion which is inherently dangerous both to the shooter and potentially others in the area. Weak side most likely will involve a pistol that is canted barrel back toward the rear quite a bit which would have an accidental discharge go backwards behind the shooter and you can imagine how dangerous that could be. Appendix, should there be an accidental discharge, I'd sure rather it wasn't during an appendix draw!!!! :)
@urcarrion4713
@urcarrion4713 8 жыл бұрын
No appendix draw in IDPA but you do wear your weapon strong side and on some stages concealment is not required.

I've shot a lot of USPSA and a lot of Steel Challenge matches. I've even shot a few Action Shooting International matches which was a ton of fun. The IDPA match I shot a while back was the worst experience I've ever had with a gun in my hands! The 6 stages were boring as hell, the rules were way over the top, and most of the "fishing vest" wearing IDPA Gods walked around like they were hot shit. Never again. FYI: This "gaming" USPSA and Steel Challenge shooter smoked most of them in my first and only IDPA match. And I was just wearing a flannel shirt instead of a fishing vest with 200 patches sewn to it! I would have placed even higher if it hadn't been for a few of the unrealistic and stupid rules that IDPA matches have. If you like IDPA that's awesome. But before you commit to a fishing vest with 200 patches you should check out the other shooting sports first. You just might find yourself having more enjoyment and in the end a better shooter.

I just shot my first idpa match this past week. I've shot uspsa I think 3 times now and uspsa is alot funnier and to me seems more useful in real life. Idpa first of all is unrealistic to me bc shooting idpa with 2.0 compact that holds 15 rounds I had to download to shoot ssp(stock service pistol) that can be up to a 6 inch barrel, if I shot ccp(concealed carry pistol) I would have had to down load to 8+1. They have to many rules AMD try to do real life stations but make them.not real life by all the rules. AMD the fishing vest, because I'm gonna wear that in real life , no I'm gonna do an iwb holster with a tee shirt so that alone makes it not real life

I am reallyninterested in shooting one of these and have training and even some experience, however I am still hesitant ( code word for nervous) to shoot one these guys are good, I dont know how they keep all that straight, Id like to find someone around the southeast Ky area that does it maybe get some pointers and where they shoot around here, at any rate Im looking at a range in Tn to go watch maybe even saddle up and get my feet wet ( again code word for take my beating )

Robert Watson you are completely missing the point, running simulates the increased heart rate and loss of fine motor function that comes with an adrenaline dump. I am aware of the 3x3x3 rule of most shootings, 3 feet away, 3 shots and 3 seconds in duration for most self defense shootings.

The young PUNK in the van(Bob Vogel), needs to loosen up, and have FUN. Can't believe he was such a smartass to the S.O. If it became that nerve racking to me, I would just quit shooting in competitions. If you hate people that bad, stay home, and shoot your steel by yourself. I don't care if he is a pro, I wouldn't enjoy being around him. The other guys seem very cool, and act like they're enjoying themselves. I can't stand arrogance.
