Today we visit Seaburn Sunderland for my first visit for a long time and WOW how it has changed over the years and it’s absolutely booming! We find a real quality cheap hotel right on the seafront with swimming pool and a great pint. Writing from the US. Never once left my country or even my time zone except many years ago during a Caribbean cruise. Seeing this makes me want to take a trip to Sunderland. I would love to go there, rent a room at the Grand Hotel, walk along that strip, enjoy the restaurants and night life, then cap it off going to the Stadium of Light to watch a game. Unfortunately I have a fear of flying, a fear of crowds and a fear of leaving the house. So my imaginary trip will have to remain such.

We used to go to see the lads from London as part of the London Branch of the Sunderland supporters club . (early Grand Union train) We would take the metro out to Seaburn and slowly walk back to town prior to the match. We would pop into the Marriot for a coffee or perhaps a Guinness. Saw Stuart Pierce in there once.

Lowery the artist of match stick men fame in the 1960s and probably earlier stayed at the Grand hotel used to be called seaburn hotel
