The good thing about working on dozers is that there are very few other pieces of equipment that you can make "fine adjustments" using a sledge hammer. (I've wanted to adjust other stuff with a sledge hammer, but always talked myself out of it.) I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who always does this kind of work with only a dog for moral support as help, and watching you gives me ideas for rigging "special tools" for my next project.

Good morning sir, when I rebuilt the undercarriage on my TD7, I bought all the bottom rollers from a local heavy equipment shop. I had to extract broken bolts and re tap all the threads. It was real and it was fun but it wasn't real fun :) you did a great job and as always, I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you.

Man I learned something with that board trick. I have always used a come a long to pull that idler back and most times it's not easy. Why in the hell haven't I thought about this? I have no idea. Some times you see something that is so simple and easy you just wanna slap yourself for not realizing it sooner. Thanks Frank that was sure worth the price of admission.

As I was watching you try to catch the first bolt back into the roller I kept saying “use the drift in the front hole with your left hand and move it back and forth so you could use your right hand to catch the threads in the back hole”. Great idea with the chain to pull it up tight.

Morning Frank. Another good video, my project yesterday was putting a new Honda GX270 engine on my 29 year old Troy Bilt Horse tiller. Lighter components but can be just a frustrating at times. You feel better when it’s over for sure.

Nice hoisting tip ! I installed all my rollers on my New Holland and held them up there with both hands and knees..Boy was that a challenge they were heavy and a lot of them. I also had a split the track on that one.

#Farmalldozers The good must outweigh the bad... or nobody would own them” Frank, I gotta get me a T-shirt with that on it! Things were going good until the struggle bus parked in that bolt hole. That’s one of this situations where an 8year old could have saved you a half hour of frustration. Nicely done video... Thanx also for visiting my site.

Hi Frank! I hated to see you struggle getting that new roller installed. I have done that very same thing on my dozer before. I set the new roller on the track and then raise the track up with a floor jack to levitate the roller into place. You can raise and lower the track with the blade to get the floor jack under the track. Instead of blocking under the sprocket, place cribbing under the back of the dozer frame. This will allow for a pivot point when you are raising and lowering the track frame.

I sure miss the highlift I had but sure don't miss the wrenching on it. Replaced the sprockets rollers and chains and every bolt and nut on both sides. Had to burn every one off including the pad bolts and rework the rails taping and welding bolt holes. Had my two younger brothers give me a hand. Lucky they were young and full of piss and vinegar, and I painted every bolt with the good old silver stuff too. Lol

I wanted you to buy a dozer also. I sit comfortably and watch you work on it! By the way you do a good job. White lithium grease works very well and is less expensive. It resists washout better and leaves no metallic flake to clog and bind later. Sorry I was late been very tied up lately..
@Digginok

@@Digginok I figured that out from rusty Ohio. It works well in spindles that have hub bearing assemblies. I have fought many diesel Dodge front ends apart. I have also had never seize burn off and gald exhaust bolts in small engines. In my experience never seize is over priced and way over rated. Please be careful with marine grease if you get it on your clothes... your washing machine will be a disaster. Considering your kitchen skills, I suggest not making the wife mad!

You might try using two bolts a little longer with the heads cut off and two flat spots ground on them for a wrench. Use these to line up guide the new part into place.

That was a bit of a clart on Frank 😖 but you got there ! I wonder if a scissor jack and a piece of timber stood vertically between the two rollers may have guided the roller in better 🤔 only thinking as a bloke who has no experience of this type of work, just a degree in the joys of life!!!

Frank does that roller have greasable “ball” bearings, also does that roller get more abuse than the others in front... Great video, Thank you sir.
@davidmorse8432

These rollers are lubricated with oil internally. The seals, are subject to wear and may allow the oil to leak out. If the oil is not replenished, the bearing will run dry and wear out. The two back rollers are subject to the most wear as they carry up to 75 percent of the weight of the machine when down pressure is applied to the blade in a hard cut application. An operator will know if the oil has leaked out because there will be high pitched squealing when operated. The suspect roller can be identified by placing a hand on each of the rollers to see which one is hot. The roller can be salvaged if it is caught early. If the roller will not hold oil, a grease fitting can be installed and the inside oil cavity can be filled with grease to get additional life out of the roller. The bearings are plain bearings, not roller or ball.

Stop! Other bolts chamfer the first 2 threads. Either in a lathe or bolt in line with the grinding wheel to keep metal out of threads.
