short term 12 is the most underrated movie made ever the movie has an astounding 99% score on rotten tomatoes and still no Oscar nods and Brie was just so fantastic , brilliant and articulate in this masterpiece I hate the fact people call Room her breakthrough but overall the movie and Brie are astounding

"Trolls and neckbeards who hate women." Thats a broad statement lmao. She panders to feminist, talk down towards her co actor peers, has the emotions of a plank and thinks she's special for being picked to play a make-believe superhero. She's definitely got to be the hardest actor to work with.

I defend her all the time. She did make a fool of herself recently. But she shouldn’t be in a big budget superhero movie in the first place. I think it messed with her head. Especially not as an icon of the most powerful creature in the universe. She’s not that kind of actress. But who is?

At first, I became a fan of Brie February 2023 (way too late, what a shame), I thought that Brie got her foot in the door for being cast in "Room" because of Short Term 12. But even wikipedia writes that Brie got award nomimations (more than Short Term 12 itself) and talks about an "Oscar snub". That was information I didn't know. So this unknown actress gets almost Oscar nominated with her first leading role and wins the trophy at her second attempt? Brielliant! I don't think she would have won in 2014 because of the strong competition. But in 2016, she went against Blanchett (who had won 2 years before) and Jennifer Lawrence (also playing a character named Joy in a movie named Joy^^), who also had won a few years prior. Brie was part of a great touching movie, she showed a great performance and having the young boy Jacob Tremblay next to her probably was a huge plus as well. I have no idea how a movie or actors gets Oscar nominated. "Short Term 12" was like a half a million $ indie movie. Maybe it was too small and unspectacular and the competition too strong.

this is my favourite brie interview. i love hearing about her process. when she talks about being that perfectionist child who was very inward, frantically drawing at her table and crumpling up and discarding the pictures she didn't deem good enough, i was THAT kid. i wish my parents had been a little more encouraging and nurturing of creative endeavours because i am still a very anxious and cerebral adult who never really found my creative outlet. i am in law school and that's fine there is a struggle there with self-expression. creative catharsis is so important for working through things and finding our place in the world. oh well, i guess we all occasionally wonder about what could have been.

Yeah, these kind of interviews are great. But as I heard from two different media people and I believe it to be true: People in general are not interested in watching or listening to a 30 minute of any celebrity. These interviews usually become rather serious and nerdy and go behind the scenes and talk about things you almost never hear in any regular interview because as I mentioned these topics are rather serious and even depressing and there is not the time for these questions anyway. I mean, even I have to sit down and take the time to do so. And I 💙 Brie and enjoy listening to her for 30 minutes. Fortunately, Brie did a few of these interviews that are more than 10 or even 20 minutes long. But most people don't care that much and I'm sure even many of her fans aren't that crazy to watch interviews. I never cared before Brie but I should rather watch such a deep talk to see a celebrity in a new light than watching 5 few minutes interviews. I won't complain. Also there were podcast episodes of Brie where she is able to talk about many different topics either herself (on her podcast) or when she got invited and asked. Brie has decided for whatever reasons to take on mostly light roles and the logical conclusion is that these interviews are fun oriented. Who would be interested in a deep talk of the Captain Marvel or Fast X actress? Also Brie is now super successful, while when she was shooting Short Term 12, she was still a poor struggling actress that nobody knew and even until Room and her Oscar win, she still was moving from short role to short tole. But today she is a big star, she is safe, she is so much more confident and happy I think and in great physical shape, and probably busy and there isn't much room for her to do such a deep long intense interview. She totally could but honestly if you left a hard phase of your life that made you almost quit what you love behind plus you were younger and a latebloomer and struggling with yourself, why would you go back to these younger days? I'm not saying that you should completely forget your past but it is not helpful to always consciously remember who you were as a child, as a teenager, as a young adult. Now she can enjoy life, be a role model, be an inspiration and make people laugh and smile and help some people in need and do what she loves and even things besides acting. She has experienced enough negative things in her life (just think about the audition process she went through thousands of times just to get told: Sorry, you're not it). Love her, she's beyond amazing. With Brie, all signs point to yes!^^ 💖🤗💙

Just saw Short Term 12. One of the best American films/works of art. The screen play is brilliant. The child actors are brilliant. I liked how it forces you to deal with a reality like this and not giving itself the crutch of glamour -- like, at all. A foreigner watching this film would be shocked -- 'wait, in Hollywood America everything is modern, clean, perfect -- what is going on!!' But Brie Larson herself here is what makes it all finally work. She is stupendously human and intelligent. Just unforgettable. And beautiful, but the other things first.

I wish I could travel back in time to the year 2013, give Brie a big hug and tell her that she will be a big star in a couple of years! She came so far in a short period of time. 2012 she shot "Short Term 12" which could have been her first Oscar nonimation. Two years later, she got "Room" because she had been so excellent in ST12 and she won an "Oscar" for it. Her first blockbuster "Kong: Skull Island" was shot a year or a year and a half after she finished "Room" and then mid 2016, Brie became Captain Marvel. Wow! This shy introverted girl became a physically trained much more confident superhero. She really grew with her challenges although she was afraid. It's amazing how far someone can come if he gets the chance and takes on a challenging project.

When you see an actor you've never seen before, you don't know if the personality they have in the movie is similar to their real one. I'm impressed with how different Brie Larson is from Envy in Scott Pilgrim. When I saw her in 21 Jump Street, I discovered she isn't like Envy, even though I really liked that character. The same with Alison Pill as Kim Pine, I was wondering watching it if she really spoke in that deadpan style or was just acting that way. She's a lot different in Newsroom.

Bambi Brie, as I like to call the Brie before her Oscar win, was so cute, it almost hurts to look at her. Although I just recently became a huge fan of hers, it's surreal to watch this interview of a very different Brie than she is today. But I love the interview style. These are the most interesting interviews and they are so rare. I mean, there exist maybe only two of these interviews? Maybe this and the Anne Thompson interview (also titled with Short Term 12) are the only long ones in existence. Back then, it made some kind of sense for Brie to do these interviews but today she wouldn't do them because she's more private and doesn't feel like talking about personal things probably. It's really worthcoming back to this interview from time to time. Brie admits that she is an introvert (she was home schooled and being an actor an the process between roles is very lonely in the end) and that this interview makes her nervous. Imagine her having to sit with Marvel superstars and being forced to be funny on command and trying to act all tough. Poor girl probably was super nervous and overwhelmed.

In a sense yes. Young Brie could be more of herself back then since she didn't have any career going on and she didn't have any pressure from someone besides herself finding new jobs. She was a total nobody or you could say indie darling or insider tip. Brie never was the focus of attention and it never mattered what she had to say. Brie had to grow up after she shot her first blockbuster after winning the Oscar for "Room" in early 2016. Then came all this social issues stuff. Then she had to enlargen her comfort zone. She went on social media, she went on stage, she raised her voice, she became a superhero, she got leading roles, she did direct a movie, she did podcasts and youtube videos and open up herself although she is a private person and introverted. Brie says she was very shy and is introverted and she suffered from all kinds of eating disorders, body dismorphia and depression and trauma throughout phases of her life. Also she got tons of rejections at auditions, she almost quit acting. She said she never fitted in. But she desperately wanted to become an actress. Brie still is charming but she has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Who wouldn't have changed? She finally grew up. She had to adjust a lot to being a star, a well known face. She trainied a lot physically, got success and recognition, had to learn how media works with trial and error.

She was 6. One thing Brie said that stuck with me was that she was painfully shy as a child but she had no problem acting on stage. I can relate to that statement. Life and human interactions are complicated and random and painful. Having a script and playing someone you're not on the other hand can help a person be part of a group and becoming admired and feeling understood and accepted despite having limitations with communication and social behaviour. Yes, there are definitely child actors that were forced by their greedy parents. But it's not true for all young actors.

You wrote your comment in 2019, I am writing from the year 2023. I have actually found an article of someone wondering what happened with Brie's movie career. It's almost as mysterious as the person Brie Larson herself.^^ 😅 I wondered for a moment but now I don't care anymore. I ❤ Brie as a public person much more than all of her movie roles combined. She has acted in a lot of bad or subpar or just mediocre movies (it was never her fault) and has only had a handful of leading roles. But besides her movies, Brie is fantastic. She's fun, she's creative, smart, pretty, stands up for things. The 2nd time watching Captain Marvel, I finally could get it and enjoy Brie and the movie (I gave it a solid 6.5/10 which is very good for a superhero movie) and I am looking forward to "The Marvels" like I have never looked forward to any movie before. I cannot explain why Brie decided to leave her most acclaimed roles behind and almost stop playing in deeper dramatic movies (besides The Glass Castle and in fall of 2023 the mini series "Lessons in Chemistry"). Maybe because her dramatic roles really took a toll on her, Brie is very sensitive and playing in these dark worlds was very emotionally exhausting to her. Maybe she wanted to not be a struggling actress and went for the money (although she rejected Captain Marvel twice before saying yes because of the fear of the fame etc.) which allows her to act less and to focus also on creative projects besides acting. Maybe she doesn't want to play sameish roles or to avoid being typecast. Maybe she really doesn't plan her future that much and goes with the flow. Brie just does Brie things. She's a marvel, she's amazing, I try to support everything she's taking part in. ❤
