How did he screw it up?

Rush The characterisation was awful. Dumbledore was anti-Dumbledore. People always blame Gambon for Dumbledore being angry and shouty all the time, but it was due to bad direction. They focus on GoF like it isn't the outlier in the series. PoA came before and Dumbledore was totally different. Another example is Fred and George fighting after their age potion fails. That's not them. They'd find that hilarious. Mike Newell was the typical old British guy, who takes everything over-the-top and is very hamfisted. For example, he not only made Beauxbatons and Durmstrang single-sex schools, but had them be very stereotypical. He said the audience wouldn't understand the difference if they weren't polar opposites, and he said that's how British people stereotypically view the French. No. It isn't. He does, because he's some old, posh idiot. But no one else does. And if he's admitting it's a stereotype, he's admitting it's not accurate. Yet he did it anyway. He's an idiot. And he decided against making GoF two parts, and focused entirely on the main story. He was a bad choice. And they wanted him to come back... Thankfully David Yates came in and stayed.

@@Ranger1812 honestly even if alfonso currran or david yates had directed the goblet of fire i highly doubt it would of been any different for real how were they suppose to fit almost 800 pages of a book into a 2 and a half hour movie ? Thats literally impossible .

If you have shit taste maybe, he directed the fuck out of the scripts he was given and books 5-7 especially 7 were pretty weak and full of fat. Nobody denies that books 1-4 had the best material to work with, Yates is a fantastic director.

Granger Man I agree entirely. Micheal Bay just makes films so he can fill it full of explosions with no actual plot. David Yates is a true talent.

Yes he is Harry Williams Productions. I mean I enjoy Armageddon, but come on now. Yates completely knows what he's doing on all levels, Ridley Scott was a bbc director such for many years before film. So Yates is very experienced, his potter films were all unique and pack quite of a punch. His editing/directing visual style is very nice and refreshing to have in Hollywood.

Michael Goldenberg did a good job on OotP, especially considering the short runtime of the movie.
