It's not just about being ready to receive the message. The simpler way to put it is that smaller segments are more digestible, as 'full metal' already indicated. People need to process what they are hearing and weight it all against what they think they already know, therefore it behooves them to to REMEMBER what they heard. Furthermore a 2-3 hour lecture may have a lot of distracting fluff that is not at all essential to the main critical points.

When you analyze wilson he is saying similar concepts example "white people are only able to be what they are because we are who we are.... once we change, they change". Thus poverty is much more about us and our consciousness, than it will ever be about another man's feelings towards us.
