I've watched many knee videos, but am I glad I found you!! Tomorrow I'm 7 weeks out and been getting discouraged despite excellent physical therapists and surgeon. Everything you said described my situation perfectly 🥰. I don't know how to thank you for being so clear and concise to us patients going through this. I love my surgeon, but wish you were my Doc!!!

between the 4 months pre-op and post-op I've been watching YT videos THIS has been the best I have been able to relate to. Doc, everything you covered pertained to my experience. Most of all, you kept on saying "this is normal" it doesn't always stay this way. Thank You

I’m six weeks out today. I’ve been sleeping well for a couple of weeks. I do feel tired by mid afternoon and take a short nap. I did 30 min on the elliptical machine at the gym this past weekend. I’m walking each evening. Still feels tight after sitting for a while.

Great video, Doctor...... for me, your explanation of how proteins contribute to the swelling makes so much sense and I am relieved and won't worry about the tightness and swelling as much thanks to your video........

Great info, sleep is a nightly “tragedy”, up 2-4 times each night. Few surgeons tell the real story, sleep is a disaster each night, only patches of sleep. I was so happy to go from up 4 times a night to up only twice a night, but still with pain-take tylenol before bed, and get 2-3 hiurs, then up, then 1/2 hrs. then up again, then last short sleep. Gruesome, but slightly improved sleep this week.

Hi Doc. Thank you for sharing the information i needed to hear. You hit all the major points. Today is my 7 weeks out and my 6 weeks follow up is on May 31. I am still experiencing pain at night and i am so afraid to sleep when the night falls. But then i am able to alternating my feet when ascending and descending stairs at 5 weeks. My problem now is my right knee. It is completely a deja vu! i have to go back to have it done which i am NOT looking forward to it. The pain got me!!!

My TKR was April 18 & being 6-weeks & 2- days out, wish I was told the truth on what to expect with this surgery! It truly is so difficult, painful, & debilitating! The hypersensitivity, zings & shocks, bruising & swelling, and the hot knee, it was so scary! Then there is the PT=pain & torture.... OMG! Major is the correct word, not the sugar coating I was told!

That was so helpful. I am only 4 weeks after surgery tomorrow afternoon and I admit I am not a patient person. I am 73. This was really the first surgery I have ever had except for meniscus tear/bone spur on the same knee about 8 years ago. Since then I have done steroid shots, artificial cartilage, even stem cell injections hoping to avoid surgery. Tightness and trouble sleeping are my main issues. I drove at two weeks. It is my left leg. Was given Percocet but didn’t need much. I am strong and active. One mistake I made was having home health care the first three weeks. They were always complimenting me and pleasant to chit chat with but they certainly didn’t push me as far as exercise. Now I am at a good PT location three times a week. Darned if I didn’t break a tooth about two days after surgery. It is not painful but it is an upper left canine tooth so I am starting the process of getting a bridge made tomorrow. I will take the medicine my knee doctor wants me to but could put it off. It doesn’t look very nice when I smile but of course I am more concerned about my knee than my vanity. Carole

Wow! I am so glad I came upon this video. I am 6 week post op, at 5 weeks I had to go into the hospital and have my knee manipulated. I go to P.T. twice a week, and do my exercises 2 - 3 times a day. I still am only able to bend it to about 80 degrees when sitting.

I have suffered with RA since I was 37. I have no cartilage in both knees, and all the symptoms you have described I am going through at this time. I am waiting for my referral to see an orthopedic surgeon, and I hope it helps. I walk straight hocks, and use my lower back too much. Thank you for your video

Thank you Dr Andrew, so glad that l watched the video, l am at the six week post op date today, feeling great only issue is sleep however as you mentioned things should get easier in the next few weeks. I am 75 ex military so quite fit, currently swimming, on an Exercycle five times a week plus hitting about 15,000 steps a day walking. Today l had a dental hygienist appointment they gave me some tablets prior so hoping everything is okay, guess l should have cancelled the appointment just to be safe, my mistake. Thanks for the video it certainly helps as a guide to my progression after surgery.😊😊

This was so comforting. Phew, I’m doing alright. Sleep is sometimes absent, and my body temperature seems to swing between too hot and too cold at night. This is my second knee replaced, starting 3 months after the first one was replaced. The swelling was less, but the pain more longer lasting at the hellish level this time. Odd. My theory is having both knees still healing means the pain is cumulative. My symptoms can be wildly variable: agony one day and better the next. It’s hard to exercise and not overdo it, creating more inflammation and pain. I see my surgeon tomorrow for the 6 week check-up, and this video has given me some good ideas about how to prepare for the visit. Thank you!

I'm using an ice machine. The feeling that my skin's splitting is lessening but I put moisturizer on either side of the incision. I have a range of motion of 108 degrees. I need one crutch unless just hobbling around the house. I guess everything is normal but I haven't started outpatient PT yet due to scheduling.

@@prestonphelps1649that’s what I think. After a lifetime of dangerous sports I am well used to pain and what I’ve felt in the 3 weeks since my TKR isn’t at all bad. Also, I was walking unaided on day 2 and driving day 5. ROM is 110 degrees. Level of fitness is obviously a factor too.
