@@SteveJones-om6ks I am a strong supporter of dr Becky, I am fully subscribed to her channel and watch it religiously. Yes, I did my undergrad in maths and physics, when there was 3 women studying - we have made improvements, but women in stem has been a thing since circa 2003/4 and we should keep doing so (that ratio massively increased for astrophysics group when I did my PhD) dr Becky not only shows that women are and should be studying Physics (I feel stupid even writing that last sentence in the 21st century) but she also comes from the north (and I have not checked this so I do apologise in advance) a normal class background which I think is even more of a stigma at the top unis) - with that being said, we should as many people supporting physics and scientific knowledge - as you know, we all seem to be surrounded by lots of people driven by incredible poor scientific knowledge - from 5G to how vaccines even work. Sorry for my initial comment, it was rather snarky. Both cox and Becky can and should have a platform on TV.

I have known about the concept that traveling fast makes time pass slower for you. But what frame of reference is it based on? If I am traveling past earth, from my perspective, earth is moving the other direction. The earth is not stationary, it's orbiting the sun and the whole solar system is orbiting the center of the milky way. And the milky way is moving relative to the other galaxies in the universe.. But then when I travel fast, how is that different? What is the overall frame of reference that determines how fast time passes for each observer?

Am a Dr Becky subscriber, enjoyed this interview which I only just came across, nice job boys and girls. Just a small point of order, no one is traveling very far into the future by traveling at near light speed for a certain time, then returning to your start point unless they go on a diet, Until you get your mass down to next to nothing, and I stress next to nothing you won't get close to light speed. Ask a photon or a neutrino for dietry advice 😁

It’s a thought experiment not a literal representation. The flat sheet represents space/time. The ball represents the large mass. The bend in the sheet represents the effect of the large mass on space time.

Okay so with the trampoline thing but making that 3d bc space is like up down left right not just flat. Would it he fair to say it would be like bitting a chocolate chip muffin, like the muffin bit the bite is smooth bit then the chips have crunch so it it would take the bite (speed of light in this example) longer to go through it. I don't agree, because if it took me 10 years, I'd be 10 light years away. Then, I'd go ten years back and twenty years would have passed. The only thing the speed of light would do is allow me to get farther away. Although, when I stopped, 10 light years away, and looked back I could see people waving me goodbye.

When you move fast for those 10 years less time would have passed for you, meaning if you go back, more time on earth would have passed than for you, hence the "time travel"
@sociallyinept5430
@sociallyinept5430 Жыл бұрын
@@jacob2808 I've heard that before. No one has ever traveled that fast, maybe my ex. I'm uncertain why people have the idea that time will change because of how fast I'm going. Approaching light speed, the things that were around me would slow, of I wasn't moving so fast the can't be seen. The race is against light, and the eye. The eye doesn't project light, it absorbs* it, so the light has to catch the eye that's moving faster than light. If you go faster than light, all the light you go through, from behind you, you go through again. But, when you go back toward the light, if you could see people on earth with a telescope, would seem to move faster than normal, because you are going through that light, forward. Lol. Waste of time.
