I am so glad you guys are actually reading the situation the way it should be. He was pursuing a minor. Full stop. People that are trying to make this about Twitch and others trying to defend him by saying that he didn’t do anything illegal, just need to sit this one out. There is a point here where he was almost a 40 year old man going after a 17-year-old. As soon as he said those texts were “inappropriate“, he needed to go away. And stay away. There is no other response to this. There is no other take.

I fully agree. Doc was in the wrong, 100%. That doesn't mean that Twitch shouldn't also be held responsible though. To me both are at fault. This was some shady crap. This settlement and silence clause from the payout stinks to high heaven, and screams that Twitch was afraid of sinking with the Doc ship since their age gating obviously failed on epic levels. The whole thing should be explored by a neutral law enforcement third party, and both should get raked across the coals.

tldr on that bs Doc's statement: it wasn't illegal but was highly imoral: was a minor but over the age of consent in their state; asymmetry of relationship of power - aka grooming; and all of it further confirmed when he says that it _"leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate"_ because it never _"leans",_ it either is or it isn't, it's binary, there's no nuance possible in a situation like this. Now the not tldr: it doesn't matter if it was a civil dispute or not, other streamers were banned for grooming, and that what Doc did (and he admits he did it, in his own words _"mutual conversations that leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate [...] from a _*_moral standpoint I'll absolutely take responsibility. I should have never entertained these conversations_*_ to begin with"..._ It's his own words. As for the rest, bs, he never owned his shit, he got caught (both when he cheated and in this case as well) and only did something when there was no other way out. Owning his shit would be back in 2020 him saying he groomed someone instead all that circus of saying he didn't know what happened and way before anything reaching arbitration and settlement. We're 4 years in and he only came out and "owned" something because he had absolutely no way to get away from it. *That's not owning anything, that accountability catching up with you despite you running away from it.* Once is by chance. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is a pattern. No, the internet isn't throwing unwarranted labels, the internet was just seeing the pattern clear as day... and while some cult members were in denial, 4 years in we were all vindicated and Doc's pattern clearly exposed.

I just want to know if the email that leaked was true. If it is, Doc didn't know the age of the minor at the time. Which is still stupid on his part for not finding that out responsibility, but does change the context. That being said, Twitch covered this up for 7 years, banning him 3 years after these chats happened. What does that say about Twitch?

(Preface: Doc still did wrong, morally, even if there's nothing criminally done here. I'm not about to speak to the moral part, but what I think constitutes the legal part) The reason he most likely didn't know the age, was that he probably assumed above 18 because the service was supposed to be age gated at 18+. This also explains WHY Twitch made all parties involved be quiet after the settlement, it probably was a stupilation of the settlement, as without it (like we know now) everyone would've known that Twitch isn't age gating or policing their 18+ content to keep minors out of it. At least, from a legal standpoint, that's how I read this entire thing. Morally Doc's a piece of shit, even if this wasn't a minor, the dude's married. That being said, this *all* screams legal mumbo jumbo and this is just as much on Twitch legally as it is on Doc morally.

"IF" anything was done between the two that was illegal... charges would have been brought... this is a FACT... Twitch would not cover anything up that would jeopardize their business.
