I do appreciate it differently than JBP's take tho. It's a very simple prescription to get one small thing done. Give JBP one minute to talk about cleaning your room and suddenly you realize that you also need to be reflecting deeply about your life and slaying dragons and such.

@greenapplepear Not at all. He called him sir because he is a man. That is the core problem. Threatening violence because someone does not call you by the pronoun you think you are does not excuse threat of violence, EVER!

@greenapplepear The problem with catering to what the trans community demands is what will allow legislation to be put forth that will end up forcing people to comply or lose their jobs and face jail time. You can't sit on the fence on something like this because it's infringing everyone who disagrees. You are part of the problem. If you disagree, look at countries like Canada and the UK where now people are jailed for misgendering. Ben is brave for fighting for the truth which doesn't care for anyone's feelings. Unfortunately not many care about the truth these days, they bought the like of relative truth.

I'm a recovering addict on the Suboxone program and also in therapy. The majority of heroin addicts in the US are not getting hooked through pain medication regiments. Only 1/4 maybe 1/3 of the population do that. As some others have said there is a life/moral/mental issue here at play.

Casual_Cthulhu Believe me, I know. Chronic, severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. As a result, I'm diagnosed manic depressive w/anxiety disorder. Depression can be triggered in many people. Addiction can also result in those genetically predisposed to addiction. Pain patients tend to stick to pills. Addicts who suffer from mental illness need more mind-numbing than pain numbing. They will risk more to stop the thoughts. Even death. Believe me, I know. ☺

I dunno about that. My aunt had back surgery years back. and being the asshole teen I was I'd snag a pill from her once in awhile and realized the doc had prescribed her oxy 80's. From what I know those might as well be heroin. Fast forward to today different doc has her on soboxson, a medication that (as far as I know) is only given to heroin addicts to help them kick the habit. She never had addiction issues before but being on oxy's for almost a decade certainly led to her dependence ion them

InFAMOUSx42 Yeah, I don’t really buy Drew’s version of how that all went down. He knew how that panel was going to go. It was stacked and engineered to make Ben the minority opinion so it would naturally degenerate into a witch hunt. The flaw in the plan was of course that Ben’s preparation and intellectual firepower exceeded that of all of the other guests combined. He dispatched them all with ease. The first segment of this interview was Drew’s “mea culpa” to Ben, and yes the fact this interview occurred at all speaks higher of Ben than it does Drew.

This new series is outstanding! And I mean that quite literally, compared to the other fare available: the droning panels of "experts", the talking heads competing to see who can interrupt one another the most. This is great conversation in long form, both deep and wide, with considered thoughts from multiple angles. This and a cup of coffee -- it's a wonderful way to spend a late Sunday morning -- a bubble of agreeable reason amid the chaos. Thanks!

christian almli Ben Shapiro would be running for the Republican Party, obviously. The party Trump belongs to, and he has officially said he’s running in 2020, so... Ben Shapiro couldn’t run in 2020 unless he switched to the Democratic Party, but then he probably wouldn’t do well in the primaries considering his policies, or he could go for a third party, but then he would be set up to not win. So in conclusion, it would be impossible for Ben Shapiro to run in 2020, so...BEN SHAPIRO 2024

A lot of people use opiate addiction as a form of escape from past traumas and mental anguish. We've been so secular an independent we don't know how to go to people for help or to find fulfillment in our lives. So instead of staying with that pain a lot of people I know always turn to drugs or alcohol to numb it. I think Humanity itself is missing something important

I was raised to move through the pain and persevere. I can't relate to what I personally view as being weak. Every person is different but the same. It's 's a complex issue. I remember watching him when I was a teenager on MTV and never really being able to appreciate what an intellectual he is. Kudos to both of these guys I would say two of the best Minds out there.

Then why do 12 Step programs tend toward a 1 in 15 success rate? 5-10% at best? There has to be something better.
@freeindeed7
@freeindeed7 6 жыл бұрын
There isn't, though. A lot of people don't realize how serious addiction is as a disease. Usually by the time someone is desperate enough to go to 12 step, it's too hard for them to change. It's like going to a doctor when you already have stage 4 cancer. Generally there are trust issues, past trauma, unhealthy beliefs and behavior patterns, depression and/or anxiety, grief...a lot to face, that has been avoided through a substance. A fellowship like 12 step can only do so much. It can do a lot, it's the best chance, but...the chances of recovery are small.

Aitch That statistic is for everyone going to AA who successfully stops drinking, and comes from a detractor. Thousands of people are court ordered to attend meetings. They come as much as is required to keep out of jail, many other people drop out of the program. Of the people who do the 12 Steps the success rate is close to 90%.

I find this new movement of open discussions on here, Joe Rogan, Dave Rubin, etc to be so god damn enlightening. The fact that my 3-month-ago self would of automatically written off Ben because of the dogma I followed to now being a huge fan of his (though I don't agree on everything, which is actually a great thing and proves how impactful and NECESSARY these discussions are) is unbelievably human. I have never before thought more for myself than I do now and it's extremely special. I really appreciate everyone involved in this movement: Joe, Jordan, Ben, The Weinstein brothers (not THOSE brothers), Sam, Dave, etc. Also, Ben, great productions on these. I love the slider shots and the practical industrial lights in the background.

Dr. Drew’s idea of how Judaism went from no sacrifice to Christianity worshiping a human sacrifice, is too simplistic. For the idea of human sacrifice of the old were a fault of their own mental issues and a way to make it through life. But the one in the Christian sense is that the evil of the world and evil that is in our hearts are now absolved and no other sacrifice shall be made. Before Abraham human sacrifice was acceptable, until god revealed that this was just a test. And during the Roman Empire human sacrifice was again acceptable,but it fulfilled the ultimate test when god sacrificed his own son. Showing that instead of toting God around as prevailing against evil, but humbling yourself before God for the ultimate sacrifice. As a catholic I give a great respect to the Jewish faith and culture and I will not push my faith upon them. But I this case Dr. Drew should put a little bit more research into the religion of Christianity before he passive aggressively jabs at the glory of Jesus Christ. I wish all well and may the Lord be with you.

noah luiken, I couldn't agree more. Dr. Drew is a non-practicing Jew and holds what appear to be very biased views of religion, history and God, of course. He compared the symbolic practice and passages of Christ telling His ppl to drink of His blood and eat of His flesh to cannibalism? How incredibly intellectually dishonest of Dr. Drew. Such practices (and passages) have nothing what-so-ever to do with cannibalism. Christ is what _sustains_ us. Drinking His blood and eating His flesh are symbolic in both practice and in Bible passages for living within Him and Him living within us. They have not one, single thing to do with supposed deep "primitive, primate stuff" as Dr. Drew so dishonestly suggested. Rather the Exact opposite- glorifying Christ and recognizing salvation and everlasting life are found _only_ in Him.

Yeah, the entire consept of sacrifice was as a recognition that there needs to be an atonement for sin and evil. Grace is the only alternative to the cleansing of evil through sacrifice. Even the Jewish sacrifice of animals was an act of divine grace as the sacrifice was more monetarily instead of wholly. The sacrifice of Christ was an ultimate payment for sin and evil. Secular minds don't often have a firm grasp on the cost of sin, because they have a hard time agreeing on sin let alone describing it in context to holiness (which is a transcendent/divine concept) to the extent that they recognize what it's penalty should be.

I'm sorry but the doctor Drew has not a full understanding of Jesus's sacrifice in the sacrificial system that God put in place in the original World Before the Flood. He thinks we're all just crazy which is ridiculous the Mayans may have been crazy but we're all Sinners that's the problem we don't want to deal with is sin. And once you understand that Jesus had to come here and died because he was as John the Baptist put it . Behold the Lamb of God which is to be sacrificed for all.

I wasn’t a fan of what Dr. Drew’s conduct surrounding the Zoey Tur incident and his response on Adam’s show after, but he redeemed himself a lot in my eyes here. He is very smart and learned and can fluidly discuss an issue from multiple angles. He clearly isn’t a talking head and I respect him for that. I could have listened for another 2-3 hours easily.
