Marc Lamont Hill sits down with Dr. Greg Carr, Department of Afro -American Studies at Howard University, to talk about Nikole Hannah-Jones joining the iconic HBCU after turning down a tenured position at UNC.
Carr and Hill applaud the move and the challenges that Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
“Some of the most brilliant scholars, teachers and thinkers are at historically Black colleges and universities,” Carr says. “The challenges we face are, there’s a disrespect of faculty by administrators that’s not just [at] white schools, we see it at Black schools.”

Very important class analysis/aspects touched on here by Dr. Carr. I don't romanticize these HBCU's, because these institutions, in many ways, are pretty much Black boule factories. The kind of corporate white liberal money that Tanehisi Coates, and Nikole Hannah Jones are going to bring into Howard is going to come with strings attached.

This interview is very enlightening. I am well acquainted with the jealousy that prevails between some successful blacks. I have witness the competitiveness that goes on between scholars black and whites, but I have not considered the class tension between black folks. I guess my preoccupation with the daily struggle for justice has blinded me to this reality. It is certainly petty in light of the broader struggle for civil and human rights. Maybe this is just one more by product of slavery and Jim Crow.

I dont know if I'd agree that the level of intelligence is equal. That's like saying that the students at CCP (or as some students get confused and call it KKF)are as intelligent as UOP students. Now yes I know that some are just as are even more and they are there for reasons other than being accepted. I also purposely didn't use and compare any HBCUs. I also know that there are some if not many exceptions but let's not pretend that a school I'm not gonna name that's a HBCU in N.C student body are as "able minded" as the student body in V.A and that's okay. Thanks to racism our schools in neighborhoods where black and brown live hasn't taught prepared cared or educated us so you will have numbers of kids that just weren't taught so they never learned so they cant possibly be as "sharp" as black and brown kids who went to better h.s middle class and upper class education systems.
