Trinity Classical Academy’s Speaker Series welcomes Dr. Hugh Ross, Ph.D., astronomer, best-selling author, and Founder of Reason To Believe. Dr. Ross will present The Improbable Planet: How Earth Became Humanity’s Home, a riveting tour of the scientific story, from the beginning of the cosmos to present humankind. He shows, from the perspective of cosmology, planetary science, geology, ecology, and biology, that there is indeed sound biblical and scientific support of a Creator.
Dr. Ross travels the globe speaking on the compatibility of advancing scientific discoveries with the timeless truths of Christianity. His organization, Reasons to Believe (RTB), is dedicated to demonstrating, via a variety of resources and events, that science and biblical faith are allies, not enemies.
While in college, Dr. Ross committed himself to faith in Jesus Christ. After his study of big bang cosmology convinced him of a Creator’s existence, curiosity led him to test religious “holy books” for scientific and historical accuracy. Only the Bible passed the test, therefore persuading him of Christianity’s validity. Later, Dr. Ross was surprised to discover how many people believed or disbelieved in Christ without checking the evidence. Prompted by family, friends, and colleagues, he founded Reasons to Believe in 1986, to bring scientific evidence for Christianity to light.
More than 25 years later, Dr. Ross leads a team of scholars who keep tabs on the frontiers of research with the goal of demonstrating that sound reason and scientific findings - including the very latest discoveries - consistently support rather than erode, confidence in the biblical God. Dr. Ross shares this message through numerous books - including Improbable Planet, Navigating Genesis, Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job, and Why the Universe Is the Way It Is - as well as articles, videos, and podcasts. He has also spoken at 300 universities, 400 churches, and numerous conferences around the world.
With a degree in physics from the University of British Columbia and a National Research Council of Canada fellowship, Dr. Ross earned a PhD in astronomy from the University of Toronto. For several years he continued his research on quasars and galaxies as a postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology. In 2012, Dr. Ross, together with Dr. Gerald Schroeder, received the Ide P. Trotter Prize presented by Texas A&M University in recognition of his work in demonstrating connections between science and religion.
Dr. Ross teaches as an adjunct faculty member at both A.W. Tozer Seminary and Southern Evangelical Seminary. He also serves as a minister of apologetics at Sierra Madre Congregational Church where he conducts a weekly apologetics class. Dr. Ross lives in Southern California with his wife, Kathy, and their two sons.
Trinity Classical Academy is a coeducational, college preparatory, independent, liberal arts transitional kindergarten through twelfth-grade school that was founded in 2001 with 28 students on the classical, Christian educational model. With enrollment of over 575 students, Trinity is one of the largest classical, Christian schools in the country. The mission of Trinity Classical Academy has remained consistent: to offer a challenging education, grounded in the Christian faith and the classical tradition, to produce young men and women of virtue, wisdom, purpose and courage.

A beer drinking, pot smoking, lady chasing moron, I had more $$ than I knew what do do with for many years. None of it fixed the brokenness I felt deep down. Despising biblical myths like Noah’s ark, I was too smart for Jesus. Nevertheless, I decided to give living in absolute Truth a chance for once, as my brokenness was too much for me to handle alone. On August 7, 2021 at 4:21pm EST I had a direct encounter with Jesus Christ it changed my life forever. My soul was saved. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out our world is in serious trouble. Do not let the seduction of sin and the lie it represents destroy your soul. Jesus Christ died for you, so that you may live. You don’t need to get all fixed up before you come to Him. Invite Him in, believe He can save you in your heart (not with your lips) and He will. Time is short. Repent, for the Kingdom of God is near. Choose wisely. God bless us all. 🙏❤️✝️

There is an issue with using solar reflection from the polar regions. The angle at which water reflects light instead of letting it through the surface is ~71°. This means that in the Arctic and Antarctic circles, the amount of sunshine actually able to warm the water or ice is tiny. It simply 'bounces' off the surface. And if you plot it out, the presence of ice will actually INCREASE sunlight absorption by providing non-horizontal surfaces to capture the sunlight. The 23° inclination of the Earth is all that allows either pole to warm at all - for most of the orbit, the effects of sun will be outweighed by the atmospheric wind cells that transfer heat north and south from the equator.

The New City in Rev. 21 is 1379 x 1379 miles, about the size of India or half the size of continental USA. At most we can comfortably fit 1 billion souls in that space. If there was 50 billion souls since Adam, and another 250 billion souls in the millennial kingdom that gives us 300 billion souls, but only 1 billion are saved. That's a savings ratio of 1 in 300. While I disagree with his inferences and conclusions, as do the majority of scientists, I applaud the man for discussing his theology within an actual scientific framework. He doesn’t seek to distort and misrepresent (in some instances outright lie) like some other apologists. That is commendable. However, he does make some assertions, especially in the Q and A that are unfounded. Like speciation has somehow stopped after humans were introduced. Evolution still continues, dogs evolved from wolves in the last 10,000 years alone, why does he think it has stopped? Further, I don’t think framing it is a “coincidence” is accurate, and I don’t think scientists would use that language. We’re simply the type of organism that CAN thrive in this specific environment, so we do. If the environment was different, we would be different, or not at all - some other organism could have filled the niche. Also, I don’t think the biggest argument against god/theism is the problem of evil - moreover it seems to simply be the burden of proof. These arguments don’t really hold water, in the sense they’re inferences at best - none of them *verify* the god hypothesis.

I Now it may be debatable whether the dog is the same species, different species, or subspecies. Genetically, they’re very similar, But we certainly know the dog evolved from wolves. And genetics isn’t the only thing use to determine species, we also look at morphology, behavior, and other aspects as well. @@franciscoscaramanga9396 well yes, if the dog was domesticated from wolves, it would still be a subspecies of canus lupus. We can genetically and historically trace the roots of the modern dog to specific wolf populations/species. The dog is distinctly different from the wolf morphologically and behaviorally. It may be genetically similar to the wolf, but there is genetic drift. How is this not evolution? Where did the modern dog come from? Did it exist in tandem with the wolf, is it somehow just missing from the historical fossil record? Or was it bred from wolves?

@@sumo1203 It's not macro evolution because it's not an actual change in species. You can interbreed dogs and wolves, you can domesticate wolves, and dogs can go feral. @@Dre_Key Your comment shows how little you understand , water is VERY important for carbon based life like us. a star/ sun does not need to be "exactly" the same as our sun/ star. The planet just needs to be the correct distance away from ANY sun so the temperature on the planets surface is within the range for water to be liquid , ask Dr Ross he will tell you that is a fact. Try this experiment yourself, stand next to a small bonfire then try standing the same distance from a bonfire ten times the size .......Im sure you will grasp that concept. So, around a bigger white or yellow star ( our sun is a white star ) a planet would need to be further away. If it was a red star like Betelgeuse ( which is not as hot but is much bigger ) there will be certain distance where a planet would need to be for the temperature to be correct . Im hope you get the idea , ask Dr Ross he will tell you that is a fact. There are thousands of planets orbiting stars in our galaxy that astronomers have discovered in the last 20 years, some are within the distances for liquid water AND large enough for gravity to hold onto water , ask Dr Ross he will tell you that is a fact. life on earth is carbon based and carbon is the best substance for complex life to evolve from, Silicone is the next best substance but carbon is definitely the best because carbon affords the most potential for complex molecular connections for complex life , ask Dr Ross he will tell you that is a fact. Liquid water is essential for carbon based life to make the connections for life and more materials are soluble in water than any other liquid, which is also useful for complex life like on earth, ask Dr Ross he will tell you that is a fact. ADD TO THE FACT THAT OUR UNIVERSE IS FULL OF THE SAME "STUFF" we know that from spectroscopy ( that is the science of analysing light from the burning substances in stars )

@@WildPhotoShooter liquid water is not the only "habitable zone" " water is the 3rd most abundant molecule in the universe. there are a dozen other habitable zones that must also coexist within a planet's orbit. In other vids. dr. Ross names them.

Yes, Phd = Permanent Head Damage , the head damage is strong in Dr Ross. Trying to use cosmology to prove religion is an amazingly stupid way to go and a huge U-turn for Christianity.......it can only end in embarrassment when knowledge changes. I've heard Christian apologists say they can see the hand of God in the Big Bang as the beginning of time and space BUT the new James Webb Telescope has put doubt as to wether the Big Bang happened or was the beginning . Religion needs to careful what they set in stone .......science can change as we learn more , will religion hang onto the coat tails of science ?

1) Please tell us how the Bible stated that the universe had a beginning? - Big Bang! 2) Please tell us how the Bible stated that land plants came before sea animals? 3) Please tell us how the Bible stated that the Universe is expanding? 4) Please tell us how the Bible stated that there is a causal agent beyond matter, space, time, and energy? 5) Please tell us how the Bible stated 4 correct initial starting conditions of the Early Earth? 6) Please tell us how the Bible stated 10 Creation events in the correct chronological sequence? This information came from where? Aliens? You want literal Skippy? The Bible clearly states on PAGE 1: 1) 4 correct initial starting conditions of the Early Earth. 2) 10 Creation events in the correct chronological sequence. 3) The Universe had a beginning. - The Big Bang. Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth." (Bereshit bara Elohim et hashamayim ve'et ha'aretz.) a) Bereshit bara Elohim (Hebrew) - “In the beginning God Created” b) et hashamayim ve'et ha'aretz (Hebrew): (*)"the heavens and the earth". (*) *This is a merism, a figure of speech indicating the two stand NOT for "heavens" and "earth" individually, but "everything" (i.e. the Universe). It is not about the Earth. It is about the Universe. (The word "Universe" did not exist in the Biblical Hebrew Language) 4) Genesis 1:11 documented the FACT that land plants came before sea animals written some 3500 years ago!!! a) Land plants came ~1.2 billion years ago. b) Sea animals came ~575 million years ago as part of the Avalon explosion. 5) How about the expanding Universe, written in the Bible thousands of years before scientists "discovered" that fact in ~1929?! The only way that it is possible for these and many other confirmed scientific facts to have been accurately documented by Biblical Authors thousands of years ago is by God. GET OVER IT! What, you think they got this information from aliens? The origins of the Old Testament date back to ~3500 B.C.! That does not consider the Hebrew oral traditions. The Dead Sea scrolls are dated ~3 B.C. affirming the validity of this text! Again, you don't know that the Genesis 1 text gives us 4 correct initial starting conditions and 10 Creation events in the correct chronological sequence because you have not looked at the details. You think that this is all a coincidence? 1) The Bible is the only Holy Book that gets 14 out of 14 correct. 2) The Enuma Elish gets 2 out of 14. 3) ALL other holy books get ZERO correct! Therefore, all so called Holy books are man made except the Bible. These other books cannot be from the Creator of matter, space, time, and energy and are irrelevant. You suffer from confirmation bias due to willful ignorance. You have clearly not studied the data. Ignorance can be fixed through proper education. Willful ignorance cannot be fixed because it is an individuals choice. Sadly, you suffer from the latter. Your future will be bleak, filled with COLD nothingness! Then comes judgement! FOREVER!!
