I used to struggle my whole life with weight loss, and eating less. I would lose some, then gain it back plus some more because I couldn't sustain the deficit. Fasting is what we were meant to do, I believe. Fast/feed, Yin/yang.

Even I am diabetic from 20- 25 years. When I started I F I reduced my insulin but was taking tabs. I was checking my blood sugar regularly, fasting and before dinner. Accordingly I was reducing the insulin doses. After about a week I stopped insulin. Then I stopped one tab. That's how I did it. But You have to check your blood sugar regularly. That's very important. You have to know how it is going. Well I am not a doctor or a dietician or a nutritionist. So always analyse yourself.

as I watch this video what I contemplate is how much physical weight I have to release: for the sake of my health and my well-being. the thing is though, I realize that I desperately also hold on to all the excess weight: for safety and for comfort. dear God, please please please, help the weight dissolve off of me, and please help me to no longer have the need to hold on to any of it, for the illusion of safety and protection. I am ready to be permanently, forever released from these shackles...

Dr. Fung - any research on, say, dogs and longevity with fasting? Versus allowing ones pets to eat in a grazing pattern on dry food when they’re hungry. None of our dogs are overweight and I’m fact, my beautiful Husky Shepard, Snickers is 17. Blind from a detached retina with associated glaucoma in one eye, minimal sight in the other, and some hardness of hearing (though I do wonder if it’s selective lol), he’s otherwise going pretty good! And he’s such a sweet boy! Of course, anything I could do to keep him healthy, happy and with me for many more years to come as well as to keep the rest of my pack healthy would be awesome!

That was a very interesting perspective, and it’s good you said be careful who does the intermittent fasting, because someone with a psychological disorder, like anorexia nervosa, it could be detrimental. It would have been interesting to see the slides he was referring to. I believe that any mother with a new born who is considering intermittent fasting, could see a health practitioner first, to get their advice (A qualified naturopath, or clinical nutritionist). Everyone’s body is different, and at times intermittent fasting may not be right for them (especially with what medications they may be taking, etc). Thank you.

Dr. Fung, What is recommended for someone taking medications (5 - nothing to do with diabetes) and they get an upset stomach if they don't take them with food? The meds are taken roughly 12 hrs apart therefore ruining the IF. Trying to encourage him to do this with me but I don't know what to say about this seeming roadblock.

@patrickh709
@patrickh709 3 жыл бұрын
Why calorie restricted? Starvation diets don't work. Low carb keto or zero carb carnivore combined with intermittent fasting is a lifestyle, not a temporary fix. You say "when I started eating again". What foods are you eating? If you are not following what I previously mentioned, then you are destined to gain weight on the Standard American Diet of sugar, bread, starches, vegetable oil, fruits and so forth.

Watch dr Fung’s presentation on the two compartment model on KZfaq and it’ll drive the message home. He shows a really good graphic that makes it really easy to understand and remember how your body burns and stores fat, plus how restricting calories overall but eating all the time makes your body think it’s starving. So it lowers the basal metabolic rate. It’s counterintuitive when you first try to understand it because of all the perpetuated lies in the mainstream media and the medical establishment but hey, it is what it is and we need to take our health into our own hands while others keep scratching their head blaming their genetics and fighting for body positivity lol. :)

Mariamma I am also on 2 different types of insulin. I started 8/16 fasting ( 8 hours of eating and 16 hours of fasting ) stated that 2 weeks ago after one week I reduced the amount of insulin by almost half and now after 2 weeks I am trying to do the 6/18 IF I eat two meals a day. One at about 10 AM and one at 4 PM. Now eating more meat and fish and vegetables. Only lost 6 lbs but my sugar levels are better than when I was on the higher insulin injections Try it it’s not easy. I have a mild headache a lot when fasting but I am hoping I will eventually get used to it and it will go away.

I eased into fasting and was able to water fast for 16 days. I had to learn to take sea salt. I had a notebook where i took my sugars 4 times a day and my blood pressure 2 times a day. I would write down my weight in the morning, i was able to get off insulin about the third day, little by little I reduced the metformin. The blood pressure was different and i had to see my physician and after looking at my notebook, he reduced the dosage. Please consider Keto after the fast. Best of luck!

Change the doctor. There are well educated doctors on nutrition these days but you need to look for them. If you’re from the US, I remember watching something on dietdoctor KZfaq channel that they have a database of fasting/keto friendly doctors. Shooting insulin tries to shove the glucose into your cells but doesn’t solve the problem, just exacerbates it with time. Change the doc.

Actually I did a 3 day fast and I have a terrible experience on the way of breaking a fast so I would love to answer this… Fasting actually clears up everything in your system so the next time you eat no matter what it is, your body can handle it smartly with efficient hormonal response….Btw I ate a huge steak with brocolli after a 7 day fast, I felt amazing right after that and I never binge ate after that mainly because restricting carb intake. Whenever I break a fast with a high carb meal, I would simply start binge eating the whole day without realizing so I would say start slow and you’re good to go in long run
