Extraodinary video. The mindfulness meditation technique taught by The Buddha is called Vipassana.I recently went through a 10 day course in India and it was a practical hands on training session on Vipassana meditation as taught by Guruji SN Goenka. And it was extraordinary .

Modern Vipassana has little to do with what the Buddha taught. Vipassana is not a technique but the result. In the scriptures Samatha (tranquility) is always the quality that is developed. Once one let go continously unwholesome states of mind, Samadhi matures. With Samadhi as a necessary condition, the vision to see things as they are (yathā,bhuta.ñana.dassana) arises, that is, the four noble truths, impermanence, dukkha and non-self of the 5 aggregates are experientially seen. Since one sees the aggregates are changing & non self, disentchantment occurs.

He is a rational evidence-based scientist, so it's unlikely he would believe in invisible sky fathers and their murdered sons. Pali Canon Buddhism is rational, accurate. The Buddha did not claim to be a god or speculate on the existence of gods. Buddhism is the most sane, non-delusional, personally implementable of all major religions.
