Ive been a physician for over 25 years. This was a beautiful speech. Interestingly, if I didn't know anything about her beliefs, I would guess she was a secular humanist. She emphasized the beautiful writing of John Steinbeck, a known atheist. She is obviously much more open minded than the first year students who walked out. I wonder if the pro life students will be allowed to walk out of classes taught by abortion performing gynecologists.

Does anyone have the link for the full 2022 white coat ceremony?

Seeing all the comments in this video makes me sick to my stomach. Just imagine living in the land of the FREE but not letting women be FREE to do what they want with their bodies. I will agree that the few women repeatedly getting pregnant then having abortion after abortion is horrible behavior, but punishing the MAJORITY of other women looking for an abortion to save their life is UTTERLY DESPICABLE. If I have to make an analogy it’s like one child in the classroom getting their whole class extra homework for what they did. You don’t deserve to call yourself a freedom loving American if you spout filth not letting women have a choice.

You didn't even listen to the speech. She never talked about abortion.

Dr. Collier's message was good, I listened twice. "Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God", is as vital today as it was in Micah's day. Thanks for posting.

Que tristeza que los estudiantes hayan actuado de esa manera, denota la pésima generación de médicos que hay para un futuro, que no respetan la vida. Dios les pedirá cuentas.

A beautiful speech that anyone could take something from, no matter what they believe, if they listen.

U of M thank you for choosing her. Thank you for not backing down when the position was proposed. Thank you for standing for freedom of thought, freedom to hold differing personal beliefs, something we increasingly see going away in university settings

Amazing speech about life and living for anyone in the medical profession

To those medical students who walked out of her speech you demonstrated a disturbing level of poor judgment and intolerance of other views. This is an excellent speech that by your poor choice you decided to close your ears to diminished you as a person and a new Doctor. Your patients will suffer if you don't self correct your low level of tolerance of others. Dr Collier has more life wisdom that these newly minted Drs but they were blind to this. Concerning...

I know I would not want those that walked out to be my Dr.

@@davidrobinson3744 Yeah, knowing that your doctor is going to ignore evidence from sources they dislike is a pretty sure sign they will be a bad doctor.

No it's not 'tolerance' you're preaching when you're literally in favour of taking away the autonomy your patients have over their own bodies.

Wow! What a beautiful and wise speech for all incoming med students. Thank you Kristin! The scary thing is, those who walked out, could be doctors one day.

Wow I saw this video of the people walking out so I dig deeper to see who was the speaker and what she said (I knew she was pro life) but wow! They truly missed out on an amazing opportunity to hear an amazing physician and learn some amazing things! Even if you disagree with her personally she is the type of physician EVERY doctor should aspire to be.

The masterful weaving in of Christian narrative is part of the excellence of this speech. « you will become acquainted with grief » and Isaiah 53. Most secular people won’t get it. It proves the point that if you paraphrase scripture you will be accounted as wise but if you quote it you are a wacko. Kudos to Dr Collier and my alma mater U of M Med
