Peter Brukner, MD, www.peterbrukner.com/, has had two passions during his medical career. The first was sports medicine. Peter is a world renowned sports medicine clinician and researcher. He was the founding partner at the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne, has served two terms as president of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, is the co-author of the ‘bible’ of sports medicine Brukner & Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine, and has been team doctor to amateur and professional sporting teams such as Melbourne and Collingwood (AFL), National swimming, hockey, athletics, soccer and cricket teams as well as Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier league. Peter is Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Peter’s second passion, which has developed over the last few years, is nutrition. He believes that most of what we have been told about what to eat over the last 40 years has been wrong, and as a result we have epidemics of obesity and chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes. Peter is the Founder and Chair of the SugarByHalf campaign and has authored the popular book A Fat Lot of Good.

When you do an N=1 experiment reseachers laugh at it and say it's insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But if you multiply N=1 by hundreds of thousands or even over a million people and most claim it improved their health, you should take notice. It is significant and we know a major randomized study will never be done of LCHF vs Vegan diet because of cost.

I always remember that old adage: "The plural of anecdote is data." If Carnivore works for me & 100 other people, if Keto works for you & 100 other people, we're not crazy & our results aren't anomalies. Those aggregated results are "data".

@@freedomfighter4990 if it worked for me and only 100 others out of 10000 people I would say it doesn't work very well. From my experience it works for most people. The people I knew who quit keto and carnivore was because they admitted they missed eating and drinking some of the things from before.

@@KetoMama777 you can't lose in the direction you're going. I had bad knees and joint problems. I'd walk a mile and my knees were swollen. I rode long mountain bike rides, 3 to 4 hours long a few times a week. I couldn't lose any weight. I went keto and lost 40 pounds in 3 months. All my joint inflammation went away. I can walk 7 or 8 miles with no swelling. No more acid reflex. No heart pains anymore. The only problem I still have is elevated blood pressure. Still trying to figure out that out. Doctors have no clue.

@@jimrutherford2773 Oh I agree it works for nearly everyone. But we will never be able to document that. No one is willing to spend the fortune it would cost to isolate a few thousand people & monitor them for a controlled scientific dietary study.

Even with all this obvious results, main stream health care won’t people do this lifestyle because it really puts them out of business - all those doctor visits, routine tests, medicine, comorbity, serious health issues development, etc

In fairness to the medical-industrial complex (& I can't believe I said that!), we have to remember that clinical trials involving diet are nearly impossible to complete. You have to literally isolate a population on an island somewhere so that have no access to foods other than what you want them to eat. Half the house will be Carnivore, the other half will be free to eat the SAD. You'd need MD's monitoring them, doing labs routinely, esp for the ones already on meds for HBP, DM, etc. And you'd have to film them nearly all the time, never let them leave the house/grounds & not allow anyone to come & visit them who might sneak in food. That's a though standard to meet. Although we manage to do it for Big Brother, so I really don't see why it can't be done for dietary studies. But maybe that's just me.

@@freedomfighter4990 why not put a monetary incentive big enough to motivate those subjects but at the same time not having to break the bank. I literally was dying - my body was..And changed to keto, with in 2-3 weeks I feel like superman. Well that is the same story after another for people on low carb diet. I doubt "Medical industrial Complex" actually are not aware of this miraculous health benefit. oops i said that too. lol

I have been on a ketogenic diet for 8 months now and lost 60 lbs. Four months ago, I suffered a bilateral subdural hematoma along with a small stroke due to a warfarin imbalance. I continued that diet while in the hospital much to the chagrin of hospital staff. Pretty much ate only meat, eggs, salad and non starchy vegetables and refused all fruit and desserts. The team that awaited me when I got there after a 200 mile flight in a winter storm was obviously surprised. They had seen the scan and were expecting someone who was barely conscious. I was able to transfer myself from the gurney to the bed, speak clearly and pass the strength tests. Keto, I believe, greatly improved my outcome after two craniotomy’s. The stroke occurred after the first one due to my brain moving back to where it was supposed to be and I had the second craniotomy roughly three weeks after the first when I started having stroke symptoms I got another ambulance run by ground this time but also in a storm. So, it’s my opinion that Keto and probably Carnivore improve ones chances of there is a neurological problem. I can’t take warfarin or any blood thinners now, so I shoot for a period of autophagy (self prescribed) every day!

One of the benefits of a LCHF diet they claim is it reduces depression. I've been on this diet now for 21 months. I used to suffer about one or two small bouts of depression every two weeks. I haven't had one bout of depression in 21 months. There must be sone therapeutics in this diet if others are making the same claim as I.

I'm one of those people too! Been on anti anxiety drugs for almost 35 years and came to this way of eating for gut reasons. Weaned myself off the meds simply because I felt so much better and a year later I am totally free from them.

Thank you for sharing these conference gems. ❤ In my experience people don’t want to try keto or low carb because THEY DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP BREAD! It’s that simple. It’s addicting and I was too so this is not a judgement. It’s not until illness or a challenge arises that they even consider it.
